To everyone. I don't know if anyone has made this point yet but the reason Damon sings the lyrics differently on stage is because he despises lip syncing. He just wants to show that it's really his voice. I noticed a lot of people mentioning it in the comments.
In the Gorillaz' story, Damon & company on stage sing differently than the original lyrics because the "real" Gorillaz are 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel. The "stage" Gorillaz (Damon Albarn etc.) wouldn't be able to reproduce exactly the "real" Gorillaz performance and lyrics so they don't sing exactly the same lyrics. I think that it was explained during the Escape To Plastic Beach Wolrd Tour somewhere.
This song drives me in a melancholy mood, it's just sad by it's nature. But the final part from 3:30 till end is something else. It sounds so hurt, idk, I just cracked up at this point.
I dont know whats worse The incredibly beautiful lyrics sung by a voice that sounds like the last warm summer breeze before the fall takes over. My own memories and experiences, broken dreams and life lessons learned the hard way, all projected through this song Or the fact that we were to believe that Noodle actually died here. Something I never recovered from truly even though she is back and in, really, good shape and form now.
Dude....I’m right there with you as far as the broken dreams and life lessons learned the hard way...had everything I ever wanted or needed and threw it all away (drugs were my downfall unfortunately)...lost my wife who was my soulmate and our beautiful life together...and this song perfectly sums it up. Hope you find happiness, I’m praying that I do again as well
I've always that they were kinda cool, but in all these years I never took the hard dive into the Gorillaz world until a couple of months ago, and with good reason...I knew I would probably get blissfully lost in Gorillazworld and not want to come back. It's happened to me once before (different band), it was a valid concern. Anyway, what I was getting at is that I'm realizing every time Damon walks on that stage is the most passionate he's ever been. Fucking guy is a BEAST!
This is such a great song transition from "Some kind of Nature" to "El Manana". This concert is a perfect example of Damon's musical ability and showmanship. The way he carried and got the crowd going during "Pirate Jet" was too cool.
i wouldn't call him a fantastic singer, especially since his vocal chords have been getting worse (years of heavy smoking). He can barely perform some of the Gorillaz older tracks because he can't reach the high notes too reliably anymore
It's 100% a love song. In the old storyboard before the windmill crashing with Noodle was a thing, there was a drawing of a girl. Many people thought it was Paula. This might be about either her or Noodle. "She left me alone with my soul" - Noodle was planning to take a break from the band after El Mañana but we all know what happened and both Russel and 2-D thought she was probably dead. I will do some research about this song and I will keep adding edits to this comment.
I like how clearly Damon is saying the words here. You can't hear what he's saying on the album version and the internet lyrics are all completely messed up. Such a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.
i just want to say its almost like you know every single detail about these performances and its really cool of you to be so easy to just ask a question to unlike other youtubers so i just want to say thanks
The reason he doesn't "sound like 2-D" is because the music and vocals on the record is produced to the best sound and quality. The reason it sounds different is because he's live.
They output the crowd's sound because this was upclose shots of them performing would you wanna hear the crowd over the song NOPE so they made it nice just for you
This is for me personally one of the saddest songs I’ve ever heard. The song is about getting through a strained relationship and towards the end of the song, when the singer realizes he won’t get back with his lover he goes into a mental breakdown gaslighting himself into thinking that one day they will get back together or possibly even notice him for that matter. This is how I interpret the song that Albarn beautifully laid out. I’m stuck with this and Feel Good Inc being my favorite song of the album. If you have not listened to the entire Demon Days album I highly suggest you do as it is an amazing experience. Okay ted talk over 4:06am-4:07am February 8 2023, Wednesday
Most live performers who aren't vocalists exclusively tend to have a more limited range outside of the studio yeah. He did a smashing job on 'demon days' in 2005 though, live in manchester opera house!
Yo tengo un DVD de este concierto pero no trae broken y empire me siento triste por eso / I have a DVD about this concert but doesn't have broken and empire ants. I feel bad about that.
This is definitely Damon's best song that he sings live.
I honestly think its the best ever
Elizabeth Tasker clint eastwood live glastonburg was pretty great
Elizabeth Tasker totalmente de acuerdo
I don't know... If you are considering all of Damon's songs, The Universal is right up there with this one
Shiver on all of my body Whenever I listen to this live. Simpy breathetaking. Damon is such an amazing, pure, diamond.

@@sethelwilli7711 Can't believe I haven't seen this before!
I hope life has been kind to you these years since you wrote this.
I'm rooting for you !
The violins on this song always give me goosebumps. They sound beautiful and full of emotion.
Wow I think that's the most passionate I've ever heard Damon perform a song. Must be really close to him.
I've always that they were kinda cool, but in all these years I never took the hard dive into the Gorillaz world until a couple of months ago, and with good reason...I knew I would probably get blissfully lost in Gorillazworld and not want to come back. 4:14 steam is coming out of Damon's head
I don't know if you did that purposely, but nevertheless, this comment doesn't have enough likes.
Lol like steam coming out of a Damon's head XD
Emilio Navarrete he's on fire.
And then, nothing
Titan 2d! Jk
yo damon stop kissing the microphone
is it so wrong to be passionate about a song or your own art?
Albosaur123 it's probably wrong to kiss a microphone
Asdfas Dfasdf sorry man don't get angry i was just making a joke

+Asdfas Dfasdf that makes sense, you look like one :P
I'm crying every time I hears this song, it is so beautiful and tragic. One of my favourite songs since 2013
same
Mick Jones and Paul simonon playing with the gorillaz what an honor.
That beggining is just fantastic. It's so emotive and beautiful. I love this song.
3:00 simplemente hermoso
Yeah, ten years have gone and we're still listening to this.
Just love the way he makes up the half of the lyrics from the songs of the demon days album. Brilliant man :D
This is just absolutely stunning
this is the most beautiful song and damon sings like an angel
Too many feels behind this song :(
Okay. I officially love seeing Damon playing piano.
I saw that day.. -sob-
Lost my mind -hiks hiks-
Lord I'll find.. -hiks hiks sob-
You want to be mi... -HUAAAAAAAAAAA T.T
It's "Lord, I'm fine" I think.
it is...
I always have a tear running down my face after i hear this beautiful song.
Damon has the voice of an angel omg he's so good at singing
I will never tire of this song. ❤
I feel bad for damon, he's a fantastic singer, yet a fictional character gets all the credit for his voice, haha.
indeed.
the reason he created gorillaz is because the fact that people nowadays admire the singer (the looks, etc) rather than the music.
What do you mean by "Nowadays" this band was created back in the 2000's -_-
Mauky's Shitpost
Yeah, but it still applies to modern day.
i wouldn't call him a fantastic singer, especially since his vocal chords have been getting worse (years of heavy smoking). He can barely perform some of the Gorillaz older tracks because he can't reach the high notes too reliably anymore
He was a star and acclaimed frontman for Blur before Gorillaz.
"10 years are gone but you still, you still here with me"

vince what happened?
CaptainBones murdoc wrote the whole album, maybe is a love song, just not directed at anyone lol
noodle wrote demon dayz
Tap i was thinking of plastic beach, my bad 😂😅
i honestly prefer this to the studio version. sounds so amazing
it's just so incredible because he uses so many different musical instruments which makes the song sound so real and "alive". damon is just amazing
I came here to practice this song on the bass, dude, I really felt it. It was sad but awesome at the same time
is it just me or does his voice sound a little bit like david bowie.
yeah I think so, good call
aren't we all try to?
We all are Bowie's children
that would be the english in 'em
@@harrymidnight9393 so true
Damn that piano solo at the beginning was beautiful!! The feels!
I like how clearly Damon is saying the words here. You can't hear what he's saying on the album version and the internet lyrics are all completely messed up. Such a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.
They were making the lyrics different because they didnt want everyone to think they were lip-syncing. (And he wasnt)

people are used to lip sync. this is what real music sounds like
actually damon is able to sing song 1:1 live but he doesnt want to. he likes to freestyle and change voices and styles of singing.
Magistral ❤
great live, just brilliant
Beautiful Song...

Listening to El Mañana for the first time. HECKING HECK I LOVE IT.
Love those A2's and F2's from Damon.
There's a band called Jono and the Uke Dealers that remind me a lot of Gorillaz in their style. And one of the guys looks abit like Damon
you lie
I would expect the crowd to be screaming! I would!
Probally because the song seems so sad. The music video is sad because that's when people thought Noodle had died.
They output the crowd's sound because this was upclose shots of them performing would you wanna hear the crowd over the song NOPE so they made it nice just for you
i think it’s just cause it’s a somber song, that audience are just so captured by this moment they had to pay attention cause it’s just so beautiful
Awesome.
