thanks so much for these Lee. I have added them to my page on FaceAche called "DOIRE/Derry/The Maiden City in Days Gone By" and of course credited you with them. Thanks for sharing memories of my Home City
Interesting how it shows all this beauty and then these lovely built houses (all Protestant houses on the WS) no real showing of the almost slum like Catholics areas... which explains why it all kicked off
The lovely built houses “all Protestant on the ws” you wrongly post about, are all actually privately owned houses, and not social housing. A big difference. Secondly they are not “all Protestant” either. I’m RC and I lived in one of them featured. Need to get this right.
@@ononewheellad U realize that video is from the 1968 right ? Sure there where a few Catholics that lived in the recently built Lisnagelvin / Kilfennan area but the vast majority FAMOUSLY lived in social housing due to discrimination and oppressive laws (FAMOUSLY) Those private houses in the WS where built by and for Protestants so I am guessing you where an outlier ...or you're a liar lol
@@thecircledk8597 Yes I do know it’s from 1968, and I’m only correcting your inaccuracies or rubbish that you posted. You clearly state (“ALL “ Protestant houses on the ws). I’m saying that’s incorrect. Built by and for Protestants, your words not mine, you care to explain that.
@@ononewheellad Are you claiming that Catholics built those AND they where for Catholics ? In the Waterside...In DERRY in 1968 ?!?! They where built for Protestants...pretty much all higher end houses in the ws where... the Catholic "middle class" tended to go to Culmore. Did you live in Kilfennan or the ones shown closer to the water such as Browning Drive...that was shown briefly.
@@thecircledk8597 I’m only correcting your original post where you wrongly state the houses featured were (all Protestant houses on the ws). You know that’s wrong, as I lived in one of those houses. I’m aware that the Culmore end catered for the middle classes, and there again not solely Catholic either. The social housing in Derry and discrimination is not, and never will be, in dispute by me. It’s just the featured private houses in the video I take exception with by your post.
The year my Da emigrated to NY. Still remember going back to visit my granny and my cousins!!! We had some brilliant craic!!!l🇮🇪
Great video. Things looked a lot more simpler then. Thanks for upload. ☘️👍
Nice wee find, i was five in 1968, i used to go to school down the new road.

Just before our armageddon :(
Derry 🇮🇪👋
London 🇬🇧
Andy Irvine ; )
It is indeed... with Dick Gaughan on accompanying Guitar.
Just about to kick off
Lovely and interesting footage, Didn't like the music as it didn't match the Derry scenes,
The song has nothing to do with
Derry.
and?
Is the Creggan not in derry?
@@Piarás.Ruairí.McGroggan.420 There's a Creggan Estate in Derry City but this song is about the Creggan in mid-Tyrone.
