@Autumn Gard Thank you for a clear 'basic' vid that doesn't assume "everyone knows" things that everyone does NOT know. As a side note, the Novation Ultranova (big sibling of the Mininova with the same sound engine) has an audio interface built into it. Yes, it costs more but if you add the price of a Mini to an interface, the difference is small and the Ultranova has full size keys with aftertouch and a lot of easily accessible controls on the surface.
For anyone trying to set up a synth and for some reason can't get any sound or midi through to the DAW, check the input and output channel numbers. In FL Studio it will look like a little box that has "--" in it. You can set the channel number in there and make sure the input and output are the same number. If you have multiple synths hooked up at the same time, make sure each are set to different channels. For example: main synth set to "1" and drum machine set to "2" ect...
@@AutumnGardMusic I think I've tweaked enough VST's over the past twenty years so I'll be in heaven with an actual synth at hand lol! Appreciate the kind words & I subbed, enjoy your tutorials 💯
I have a couple of questions: 1) Does it make a difference what generation or model of Focusrite you use? 2) Do both the Mininova and the Focusrite need USB cables each?
Just found this video, I am considering the Mininova, but, can I just hook it up directly to my Computer and play the synth's sounds via my DAW and record the synth sounds without an Audio interface?
Autumn Gard.... Hi I just bought the Mini Nova Synthesizer I have 2 questions 1: What is A good Audio Interface That is To Buy For The Mini Nova Synthesizer???
Hi, is there a way you can use Mininova to trigger notes from a channel in daw? for example if you use VST, you assign it to a channel, and then draw notes on, but if you just record audio, you can insert it as a clip,so no possibility to change it, you would need to record the entire audio again...is there a solution for this? Also, if it is possible to dp it on this way,how about multiple.channels at the same time, as you would use any vst on multiple.channels?
Hi Autumn Gard, I haven't had the Minivova for long and have noticed that the external input only makes a sound when I turn up the FX control in the audio menu, how can I turn off the FX effect to only hear the pure input sound ? Is that possible ? I would be very grateful for a solution!
Hello, can you explain why I schould use an audio interface? I use the mininova direct in the PC line in. is there a difference in sound quality when using an audio interface? thank you :)
Yes, you can record as midi. Since you are connected through USB, the USB can read and send as midi without having to use a special midi to USB connector. Those are for when you have an older synth that doesn't have a USB port. Each DAW is a little different when it comes to recording midi to a track. Some DAWs need a specific track created for the midi while others can switch between audio and midi tracks. If you do a search of "Recording midi in ___ DAW" you'll find lots of tutorials here on youtube for your specific DAW. I hope this helps.
Hiii! Im doing good! Am trying to get back in RUclips. Have some things in the works :D I have one song that I want to release that is kind of future bass sounding, and one that’s more rock,,,, I need to stick to a genre lol hope you’re doing well too!
@@AutumnGardMusic thank you for the kind reply. For a moment I thought you're going through rough times which evolve not wanting to reply to comments on yt. But I'm glad to hear you are doing well and working hard!
Hello I installed my drivers on ableton, the mininova works but I can't change the sound with the buttons on the mininova could someone help me please? (I'm on ableton)
I have the mininova, set with mixcraft and the audio going to the integra7 how do you ARM it to start recording on the DAW physically from the mininova? John Reissiger
@@AutumnGardMusicahhh i figured it out. In my daw i had to record the vocoder with an audio track, not with midi track. Now it works perfectly fine...nevertheless thanks for your great Video and the fast answer of yours
Hi there. So again if I simply wanted to hook this up to an amp I can? Just by using a regular quarter inch RCA jack? Like u would hooking a guitar to amp? Thanks 👍
Sadly, my laptop refuses to recognise the Beringer um2 interface I have, even though I have the drivers loaded up. I've had to resort to recording my mininova through the mic socket on the laptop, which is less than ideal.
@@AutumnGardMusic No luck I'm afraid. I'm recording through the mic socket, which is itself broken. It only records in mono. So I have to record the main tune in mono, which sounds like it's in the middle of the sound stage. Then record left and right stereo tracks using sound files, in a DAW. It's crazy 😄 I haven't given up on the Beringer interface. One day I'll have a new computer, or a second hand one. Or maybe I'll take up painting 😊
Thanks for the video Autumn, fast and directly to the point I loved it. You got +1 subscriber lol. so I'm chasing some patch/synth packs, if you know, can you please recommend where they can be downloaded?
You’re so welcome! You can find some patches on the novation website :) I think they should have instructions on how to download them too! I may make a video on it soon either way :D let me know if u find other cool synth patches! thanks for watching!
Thank you so much, very helpful and informative
Also i too own a mininova
Yay! So happy this was helpful to you! 😁 it’s such a fun synth!

Yes you can. You can use it in a live set up by just plugging into a mixer. At home you can use an amp or just headphones

Doesn’t Mininova have unbalanced outs? There should be used TS jack, instead of TRS
