There is an obvious discrepancy between what the doctor intends to do (visit a patient during a blizzard) and what he does (imagine the visit). The theme of the story is neither medicine nor its practice, but the doctor's delirium. What immediately transports him to the imaginary patient are not the horses, but something he has taken, used or applied to himself because he is aware that he can do nothing. Without a horse, the journey to the patient during a blizzard is impossible or perhaps unnecessary. The certainty of death is capable of shortening the suffering of the dying person, but it certainly increases the suffering of the doctor who cannot or does not want to do the work of helping him. In some cases, all the doctor can do is give the patient a palliative drug. In others, all the doctor can do is take drugs to forget the inevitability of the patient's suffering that he cannot or will not treat? Kafka does not resolve the ethical paradox, all he does is show that it exists and leave the reader to his fate.

Strange Doctor heal thyself seems like a no win situation in as given the girl is left behind in peril with a madman showing to much interest in her to help another person the gift of the horses may not have been in reality to go out on a night not fit for man nor beast and to arrive to find your patient and family what did you walk into?but you are swarn to a hippocratic oath go figure shouldn't everyone be ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

"A Country Doctor" by Franz Kafka is a short story that follows a doctor as he is called to make a house call in a remote village during a snowstorm. The doctor encounters a series of obstacles on his journey, including a stubborn horse that refuses to move and a group of ominous-looking figures who seem to be following him. When he finally arrives at his destination, he discovers that his patient is not who he thought it was, and that he may have made a terrible mistake. The story explores themes of identity, perception, and the nature of reality, and is known for its surreal and dreamlike qualities. "A Country Doctor" is a haunting and thought-provoking work of literature that continues to captivate readers to this day. Wikipedia

All these writers I've been listening to now after having read them fifty years ago, Kafka, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Chekov, Stoker, London, et al, are still as dark and down as they were then. I so long for stories that are uplifting and light.
I was so delighted to find audio stories on line and subscribed to this channel, but will be compelled to unsubscribe if the stories continue to be of this genre.
    Thank you.
