“Too valuable to play?” Who’s the chucklehead who said that?! Whoa, that Bowie red vinyl is NICE. I picked up the Japanese yellow vinyl back in 9/2020 off EBay for just under $107 sealed, in perfect shape complete with OBI, no splits, Mint/Mint. Cheapest on Discogs sealed is now at $182. It’s beautiful. I love that it contains the 3 extra tracks: “So She”, “Plan”, and “I’ll Take You There!” I figured I got in at the ground floor. Great video with Mark, Mazzy!
Great vlog, you two guys really know your stuff, it’s amazing you talking about the Hendrix and Zeppelin first albums, took me back to those days when I brought them when they came out as a young teenager come hippie, very nostalgic! Another rare U.K. red vinyl album by Hapshash and the Coloured Coat, featuring the human host and The Heavy Metal Kids, very much of its time of 1967 and an important contribution to the counter culture in their silk screen art/posters and fashion! Oh and I have a 1958 10 inch The best of Sellers, Peter Sellers, it’s a classic English comedy record you will ever listen to and it’s not all that dated!
Thank you as always. Record collecting now reminds me of the Baseball/sports card craze of 20-years ago. These things are only worth something if you sell them. Unlike many record collectors in my age group, I kept my records from my teenage years. They did not get played because I did not have a TT hooked up. They were stored in a dry/cool place. So, I enjoy them now. I buy records and CDs to listen to and really do not care what someone thinks they are worth.
Another classic duo video Mark and Mazzy . Love that debut Led Zeppelin UK plum “your Time is Gonna come” is so excellent one of the greatest debut records. That Prince Gold is super rare with the Original artwork I have the promo with the symbol I love you copy Mazzy👌. Mark I knew that Beck midnight Vultures was going to be there man “ Milk and Honey” with Johnny Marr on guitar is timeless. John Coltrane A Love Supreme mono man it’s amazing I was so stoked to find a copy before the vinyl resurgence went nuts this made my Saturday guy have a wonderful weekend. Lovellandrew 🥂👍👍👍
I have a copy of The Gold Experience...both gold vinyl Promo and Commercial versions. It's in the top 5 price wise of Prince's catalog (The Black Album, Rainbow Children, The Gold Experience and Exodus). The Prince Estate is releasing a reissue of the gold vinyl promo of The Gold Experience for 2022 Record Store Day and I'm sure they will reissue the commercial version that you displayed in your video sometime in the later part of the year.
hey mazzy...great to see mark with you there....alot of verfy interesting items....a few i probably had back in the day....(if we only knew).....hope you both are well...my best to 'mrs. crush'....peace...rocky
I’ve got a copy of the US numbered promo translucent gold vinyl pressing of ‘The Gold Experience’ with the stickered plain cardboard jacket. Goes for a tad more than the European pressing with the artwork jacket featured in this video…one of my more valuable pieces
@@mazzysmusic I can’t wait!… but heard it’s delayed because of pressing plant issues. It will be the yellow vinyl promo version, with plain cardboard cover. I prefer the stock copy you have.
@@MarkWaldVinylCrush You’re welcome. My albums are here! Just got to get a few things in place and setup this week, and then I’ll send it out to you. I’ll send you an email with the tracking number.
Great video and a lot of wonderful records shown. My recollection of the Beatles UHQR is they only pressed 5000 copies of it and it sold for about 50-75 dollars. I saved my receipt and paid $65. Agree that it’s not a great sounding pressing. Now the black MOFI box set I believe was initially supposed to be a run of 5000, but demand was so great they went to 10,000. That too was a quick seller and I believe the next run pushed it to either 15 or 20 thousand, I’m not sure how many they actually did. My copy was in the second run and I recall having to place an order through a store to get it . I too have always wondered if the single mofi versions used the same masters as the box. Again, I agree on the sound now, but back then they were super cool and we thought the best ever. My favorite mono Beatles lps are the 82 Japanese red vinyl versions. Amazing.
Hi mazzy, don’t know if you remember us. We are the guys from cologne, Germany, who started a RUclips channel about vinyl because of you. We failed and shut our channel down. And started a German podcast about something about rock and vinyl (Was mit Rock und Vinyl). And we are slowly rising in the German podcast charts. 😉 And still thinking of you. We are copying the idea of whack a mole in one of our next features. Hope you don’t mind and still love us. We send kisses. Kölle alaaf. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would hold the water damaged cover, because it’s in a way a little story about THIS reissue. I’m of course try to find the „perfect“ reissue but the record/music is much more important
Considering how loved, and apparently valuable, Beck's Sea Change is, I have to mention a newer album that is totally cut from the same cloth, not a weak track on it, and worthy of more attention and recognition than it gets: Swimming Bell - Wild Sight, from 2019. It's a gem, just like Sea Change, and definitely has that Nigel Godrich production "feel"
Maybe you might be able to help me here Norman-a few years ago,I picked up an Australian pressing of Blood On The Tracks with both sides being side 1.It has a side 2 label but I assure you its side 1 on both sides.I'm fully aware of the mispress with The Buckinghams on side 1 but not so much what I found. Have you ever known about such a copy before?
Why don’t Mobile Fidelity on the limited addition finals have the information of how many are limited, instead of just the limited edition number 🤔 it should be printed for example 500 of 5,000 on the rear of the cover ? Nice work Mazzy 👍
I might pay more than a dollar for the Hood, although I just sampled 10 minutes and was unable to ascertain its musical value. Sounds like one you need to hear all of, at least once, to assess. One of the joys of vinyl collecting is if you dig often enough, or for many years, you can build up a solid collection whilst spending relatively few dollars. Although it is harder now than it was even 5 years ago. Have to get up early and hit the fleas, yard sales before 7a,m or earlier.
It's true, the days of going crate digging for low priced gems is all but over unless you get to a yard sale before anyone else and they actually have records. It's a crazy new vinyl world. Hood is definitely not for everyone. The music is very atmospheric and almost child-like. This along with the field recordings from the 1950-60's creates a sort of time capsule that takes me back to my childhood. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, and by the fact that the last copy that sold went to the UK for over $400. While not for everyone, this record definitely has a following. Thanks for the comment 🙂
More diggers around now, I seem to find high dollar- 200$ plus items - for a dollar or two once every couple of months now, even 5 years ago this was once every couple of weeks. I tend to head to Fleas on the days my creaking body and mind can get out by 6am, look for drug addicts or folks who are more desperate for cash and quite oblivious to Popsike. The Hood types are more of a pain for me as I'm tempted to keep them- I need to check it out fully, seems to have resonated with you! Prices rarely surprise me, they are quite random or supply/demand has no obvious logic other than hype perhaps.
Thanks to you guys, I love your video. Mazzy: I follow each of your videos, not because I‘m a music buff but because you‘re such a great guy, love your humour (apart from the occasional swearwords). Greetings from P.O.E.= Poor Old Europe …

Since yesterday I have a dedicated mono tonearm, I did not expect how much difference this makes when listening to mono records. I would recommend to first try an old mono record with a true mono system and then make a decision what you like better. Since yesterday I would say 75% would prefer mono, two days ago I would have guessed 30%.

Hi Mazzy. Sitting here with my coffee, reading the Sunday papers, I come across an article regarding a court case involving John Lennon and "ruthless record mogul" Morris Levy. To cut a long story short, it involves an album that Levy released " John Lennon Sings The Great Rock & Roll Hits" in 1975. Lennon decided that the tracks he'd recorded were sub standard and so went to court regarding the release of said album. I know I'm telling you something you know but I am intrigued to find out if, as a Beatles/,Lennon completist, did you have the album and if so, how much was it worth?
Hi Mazzy, I have a Quadraphonic "Desire"... how would that stack up against the double-disc MFSL version? (Has some sonic differences in it...) Led Zep - Jimmy Page is a genius with his production, to say nothing of his musicianship and song-writing abilities. Wow! great story about the Bowie Next Day red vinyl LP. And yes, Bowie was a musical genius too.... Your Led Zep II is a nice clean copy... A great video from both of you - thanks, and peace out.
Hey Mazzy, Great video. Lots of interesting records. I really should do a video like this for my channel. Just a few comments...some of those high prices on Discogs are a bit hard to believe. ..mainly because if you look further at specific sales. .some are signed copies by band members which increases the value quite a bit. I hope that people eventually get real with these prices. I've seen a Kiss - Greatest Hits (Japanese version) go for over $5,000 US on ebay and Discogs...if people stop paying these stupid prices...guess what ...it will go down. In my opinion there is no album worth that much...by any artist.
Hi Mark, Yes, you're right. When I prepared for the video, I not only looked at all of the Discogs offerings (grade, signed, date of sale), but I also looked at Popsike as well. Especially with the rarer, higher priced items. I tried to rate mine based on all these factors.
The problem with Discogs is where you own a record that has not been sold through their platform. Discogs will not be able to show a resale value. These tend to be much rarer presses & possibly more valuable in monetary terms.

The highest price paid for a red vinyl version of „Party after hours“ on Discogs is 156,40 Euro. Only coz one moron offers that for 4000 $, you think it’s worth that? The black vinyl is sold one time, also not a real indicator for the value. Don’t fool the people and better show how to „read“ discogs prices. Otherwise a nice talk, thx for that.
Hi NG! Yes, this pricing and grading is a touchy issue. When I prepared for the video, I not only looked at all of the Discogs offerings (grade, signed, date of sale), but I also looked at Popsike as well. Especially with the rarer, higher priced items. I tried to rate mine based on all these factors. Last few sales of red vinyl with cover were a VG copy in 2015 for $1426 and a much nicer copy in 2014 for $3050. With the prices going up so much since these records were sold, It's hard to say what the values is now. I felt I graded mine conservatively for the purpose of the video. Thanks for watching 🙂
