Need to point out that this was the early access .9 version of Black Mesa. There's a bunch of performance, gameplay, and graphical changes with the 1.0 release. It's even better than what's here - Crowbar Collective did an amazing job.
Whole-heartedly agree. I thought the 1.0 release would be the same but boy was I wrong. A few good map changes too. The only thing I miss is the revolver as your second weapon pick-up, unless I missed something, since it felt like a good warm up for your aim before the action really ramps up. Then again, now that vortigaunts are harder to hit (the buggers dodge your bullets now), I think it's reasonable that you get the shotgun instead.
@YayDude123 Actually Half Life 1 *was* beaten by someone in under 20 minutes for a speedrun. You can find it here on RUclips if you look for it, I forget the name of the guy who made it
I don't see any reason why games can't be remade after a few years, just like movies are. Black Mesa is a thing of beauty, really does justice to Half-Life 1. Project Lambda does justice to the intro chapter, and I'd love to see the rest of the game remade in that engine, as well. Imagine how cool it would be to have other games remade with updated engines and re-tooled functionality after they get way outdated.
Is this remake exactly the same as the original Half Life in terms of story and events? I'm looking forward to get to know the story of half life, but I don't know whether I should watch the original game or this one, as it looks way better
@@sirparedoff8976 Black Mesa omits little things here and there which I'd like to see included, but overall it represents Half-Life 1 very well. The story beats are the same, the gameplay is very similar, but some aspects of the original experience have been improved upon, not the least of which are the final chapters of the game.
It's not the same, because it actually makes more sense to remake a game than a movie, acting can be unique and very iconic, a lot of great scenes in movies were not even part of the original script, improvisation plays a very important part in movie making and acting. Videogames are the result of different technologies coming together, if these technologies improve over time, it does make sense to make an update of sorts or in cases like Black Mesa or Skywind, a complete remake. Also, the communities of those two titles for example are still very much alive, if you remake a 25 year old movie, only a few people will remember it or even care about it, the dinamic is completely different. I've always believed that comparing movies and games on this field is completely unfair, because not only is more sensible to remake games because of technological limitations of the time, also because developers had ideas they couldn't implement because of those limitations, so it can eventually be a game of its own, that will drive a new generation into a title they would have never even considered playing otherwise.
