Thank you for such a great detailed video on this subject and sharing your many years of experience. This video definitely helped me to decide on a loupe and a Optivisor headband. I already have a USB microscope and other magnifiers, but need a pocket magnifier for coins and jewelry...etc.. Also need a good headband magnifier for soldering and working on guitars...etc.. Thank you again! Great video, and I'm glad you gave details on the products. It really helps.
Great and honest review.. Almost have bought magnifier that you mentioned and your right.. most of them useless... But never bought headband magnifier before.. This time i will buy one for my electronics and smd soldering. Thanks.
This is an excellent video, substantial background information presented which validates the advice given. Fantastic, recommended viewing for sure.
Thanks for this most informative video. One more thing you might consider is the camera in a cell phone or tablet. My eyes are not good at short distances. If I want to check the soldering on a board, count the turns on a toroidal inductor or see the writing on an SMT part I take a picture of it, then zoom in to the item I want to see. This really saves me a lot of time when checking boards or identifying parts.
Good idea resp. alternative to using a magnifier.

The trick I found with the magnifying lamp is to relax my eyes and focus through it, then position it to make things sharp. Then it is easy on the eyes. It also needs to be tightened down so it doesn't sway.

Would you recommend this for me? I am in my 70s and I do a great deal of sewing. I am struggling to be able to see things clearly.
Sewing is quite similar to soldering or probing electronics concerning the distance to and size of the objects you are looking at.
So I think this should also be near ideal for sewing. As I mentioned in the video I can work for hours with the lower magnification without any fatigue. But every user is a bit different and if you are having glasses prescribed you just have to try if it works better with or without your normally used (reading) glasses.

Awesome video! but at around 12:10 minutes into the video, you attach a magnetic light to your computer case, I have heard that magnets can cause damage to your computers' hard drive.
It's old regulations, I was told that too. Recently a friend who works with computers for a living told me computers are less sensitive now, static isn't a concern, and magnets can only harm a computer if you put them directly on the hard drive.

I hope that you please will answer this question: I have heard that LED light make a lot of electric noise, both in air and via cable due to the switch mode transformer and some say that fluorescent light make a lot of noise. Do you know anything about it and what would you recommend to avoid that? (Old lightbulbs are not legal in Denmark anymore)
Yes, fluuorescent and LED-lights do produce a lot of noise (+ all the other switch-mode power supplies for all modern electronic devices). Especially because the LED power-supplies are not shielded and often badly engineered.
The situation has worsened that far, that I can´t receive the German time-code broadcast-station DCF77 at 77,5 kHz anymore indoors in rooms (except my bedroom or other rooms without too much turend-on electronics).
Basically there is no simple remedy for that :-(

The video was frustrating for me to watch. The speaker was informative, but was forever searching for words. Frustrating. I also wish he would have identified the manufacturer of the headset units he reviewed. I liked the look of several items, but have no idea what or how to search for them.
1. If someone needed more magnification power, would he be better off to put reading glasses on (e.g. 2.0 power), or add a stronger lens to the headset?
2. I currently have a 5000 lumen LED ($29) light over my workbench. It is quite bright. What if I added a second light along side to help remove shadows (if any). Would the additional 5000 lumens be worth it?
All are available in our shop and most Chinese products don´t have a specific product name. Just read the notes in the video-description.
1. Moremagnifying power than 20x??? That´s the realm of (stereo) microscopes. One special type of these is recommended in another video
2. Try it out. It´s not the lumens but if the lux that are measured at your workbench. 1000 lux is minimum for good lighting.
