Dolphin Bay has always held a special place in my heart since my first visit here in 2002. Even though a lot of people have moved into the area since then, it still retains the feel of a tiny beachside community on the road to nowhere.
The beach still belongs to the fishermen who light up the sea with their brightly lit squid boats at night, and dry their catch under the sun the following day. The beach does not have the umbrellas and chairs that are typical in most beach towns, but offers many kilometers of beach where you can walk aimlessly at the ocean's edge in undisturbed silence and solitude.
Brand name convenience stores, grocery chains and fuel stations have now arrived close by in Baan Phu Noi, and the big names in the hotel business are sure to arrive some day. Nothing lasts forever, but I hope that Dolphin Bay never loses the charm that makes it so special.
