I finally sold my 8 kappas about 3 years ago after moving them around for 10 years they needed the foam replaced around the 12" I advertised them on craigs list for $300. After about 3 months a guy called very excited to find them. They were never opened up even the covers were very good shape. He was very happy and drove from memphis to orlando to get them. I surprised him and gave him the yamaha amp and preamp to go with them.
Their are easily worth 1100 you sold the. Way to cheap. And add to that you totally underpowered those . So I sincerely doubt you heard their potential with that Yamaha

I still have a pair of Kappa 6’s, they remain in great condition. Love them. Bought them in maybe 1993 ish. Originally had the Kappa 8’s, loved them too, but they were huge for the living room they were being moved into.
The real kappa sound you get with the kappa 8 and 9. Reason why I say that is because of the polygraph k drivers. Those are only used in those two models. When driven right fantastic speakers
Yeah, Infinity Kappa speakers are special, maybe an acquired taste, and wife challenging if she isn't into that. I just brought some Kappa 9's, they require some power, but they do sound amazing. And years later also now have some IRS Beta's, the evolution mixed into the Kappa series, and these together aren't big, they are hugh, and is a good or bad thing. Thanks for posting this, and yes those polydome drivers always fail...
I own both the 6 Kappa's and the 7 Kappa's. Sound is incredible on both. Had the 5 Kappa's too but foolishly, foolishly sold them. I've driven the 7's with an Adcom GFA 545, Emotiva XPA 200, Pioneer receivers and presently the Parasound New Classic v.2. Parasound is probably the best combination to date. Periodically, for real estate reasons, I decide I'm going to sell my 7 Kappa's and start doing some serious listening again. Well, they're still here and likely will be for a long, long time.

I ve known about issues with emits as they age as I had deal with it and one of the older domemids had wire deterioration I had to address. But never knew about the later models with foam midranges deteriorating thanx for the info!!👍🏾🙏🏾
Found a pair of Vandersteen 2ce's that were treated well and was able to get them home for 250.00. This version was made in the late eighties. The bang for buck sweet spot in the model 2 lineage has to be this version. The 2ce signatures still bring 500.00. The current version new are north of 3000.00. That adcom and a proper set of biwire cables would be a perfect marriage for these things. If you ever have the shot you have to pull the trigger. The Ohm 2's will get sent to the minors. I love this stuff and will be sure to see what kind of luck you are having by watching your content.

I love my Infinity Interlude speakers, IL50s , IL10s and IL25C based on the Prelude and Intermezzo lines. I've owned mine since 2003 and I love the sound and musicality of them.
I just picked up a mint pair of vintage infinity RS4, exceptional speakers. Never getting rid of them and I scored at $450. I am driving them with a kr-9400. It does well.
I always wanted a set of Infinity kappa speakers when I was in my early twenty's but I wanted a good home theater system more so I ended up buying a full set of Infinity SM 155, SM video, and SM65. I still have them today and use the 155's in my weight room. The surrounds are in great shape as are the tweeters and in my opinion, loud rock and roll sounds best through big box speakers.
I got a pair of speakers that also have big dome midranges. One of them was buzzing. By means of an audio test CD I found the frequency where the buzzing was most intense. I had this track repeating continously while I loosened and tightened the screws that hold the speaker in the cabinet just a little bit. This bent the frame of the driver just enough to make the voice coil vibrate freely without buzzing any more. Porbably this method would have helped with the Infinities, too.
Please don’t talk about these speakers and drive up the prices! :) When I was about 15, I met the owner of the patent for some of the woofer technology that Infinity used in their woofers back then. And he took the time to teach me about audio and ever since, I was hooked on the Arnie Nudell series.

@@abbywallace5154 kappas don't have a watkins woofer , they use img woofers. Watkins woofers were used in tbe rs2.5, 4.5 and the qls and few other quantum series speakers. The last watkins woofers were made with img cones the renaissance 80 and 90 had them .

Ive owned infinity kappa 7s, they are amazing speakers, but be careful as they are known to be amp killers, their a tough load on an amp, and theyll take major power and will reward you the more you give, those woofers will take some heat, enjoy, nice find.
My Kappa 7s spent 15 years in the shed after the foam surrounds died and a clown busted the banana plugs on the back of one of them. My wife (now ex) wouldn't let me throw them out. Long story short, therapy project complete rebuild. New OEM woofers (yes!), Scan Speak dome midranges. EMITs were perfect. Used them at my son's wedding along with another of my rebuilds (wharfies) and some 2kW powered JBL subs. One of the venue staff said 'this is the best I've ever heard'. Felt simultaneously sorry and happy for her. Great to see there is a small community of us left.
Yes absolutely. No point having nice toys and not sharing them with others. Only problem I have is needing to acquire more so that when I finally pass on all my kids gets some.

The Infinity IMG woofers designed by Arnie Nudell are highly sought after and very highly rated woofers do some research before you comment next time. And learn how to spell!

Yes. The Infinity loud speaker were in the top 4 back in the 70s. JBL, Cerwin Vega, Infinity and Altec Lancing made up the major players. The first and the last were of James Bullough Lansing. The "Cali" sound! was big and popular back then.
I have the RS6/b speakers with the original midrange drivers and they sound very good. Infinity has been through a number of ownership changes, but you might check with the current owners to see if they have midrange replacements.
You need High current amplifers for the Kappas. Something that can be stable down to 2 ohms. Sooner or later your Nakamichi is going to shut down for good

Do you like them better than the OHM speakers? I have a pair of 7 kappas in storage that i picked up and listened to briefly years ago. I just have so many speakers. Maybe i should dig them out and give them a try.
I purchased SM152s back in 1990 and will never sell them. Only had to refoam the bass speakers and replace the tweeters the latter resulting from my party animal days.

I have a Pair of Infinity RSa 10" 2 way speakers images.app.goo.gl/26kXYHyaugcTYwax5 from the 70s that had EMIT tweeters and they sounded great but both tweeters failed eventually and at first I replaced each with whatever tweeters I had laying around (not even matching) and stored them away. Decided to buy some new dome tweeters from Parts Express around $20. Each and couldn't believe how good they sound. I think better than the EMIT tweeters did and they are my main speakers now. They still sound great though in the 90s I did replace the foam surrounds on the woofers.
@@evantench6651 ridiculous statement as it's well known that the Oscar heil tweeters had distortion issues. The emits walk up to the 44khz range , and let's just put it out here too. That the infinity irs v (used by ps audio today ) is still today considered one of the best and most important speaker systems ever build. The emims and emits are all present (prominently) in that speaker. .. Heil tweeters are nice , but not without flaw . Matter in fact that are entire topics dedicated. Using caulk beads in the accordion folded ribbon to defy distortion issues on higher spl numbers. Emits don't suffer from that at all ..

All that and more probably spelled the end for the EMIT. I'm trying to recall the company (Legacy Audio?), but at least one high end company right now still uses ribbon tweeters."
I also got my RS 6 Kappas for free as a curb find. One Polydome was torn and both woofers needed to be refoamed. I had them repaired by Infinity guru Bill LeGall of www.millersound.net and they sound great. They make almost too much bass for the small room I have them in. I especially like them for jazz with a real bass, but bass heavy rock can be a bit much, so they are not my go-to speaker every day.
Totally different presentations. Ohms are not as dynamic, but they fill the room with a wonderful sound. The kappas hit pretty hard with plenty of punch across the audio spectrum.
I got my self som kappa 8.1`s and are running a Pioneer VSX-LX 70. Is this amp in any way capable to handle these speakers? I mean, they sound ok in my appartment, but I got a Sub as well. Anyone with some good tips for settings? Regards from Norway
No, that amp will power the 8.1's but believe me they have a whole other level when amplified correctly. It's not about watts, it's about how the amp can handle the Kappas impedance dips. You need a 4 ohm amp that is stable down to at least 1. OR, get a vintage 40w tube amp for the hi's and mid's and a pro amp for the low's. Amazing speakers, but an expensive hobby
Facts! However the Crescendo's were made after the Harmon takeover but still designed by Nuddell. That was the last good infinity speaker of the old design
I did invest $$ into trying to get them repaired. I’m not telling how much I sold them for, but it was very reasonable. That’s why I got such a fast response they sold within 2 hours.
Everybody gets to pick their spots when it comes to generosity. Some people think they get to pick when others should practice it. Buy low, sell reasonable. Fight the temptation to part out the good stuff that can be restored. When gifting vintage gear always give it to a kid who reminds you of yourself. I almost forgor, do you have anything you got for free that I can have?
Once again that is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. You need to educate yourself my friend. One way to depreciate the value of the speakers, is to replace them with non original drivers. If it's one thing I cannot stand, it's people like yourself that don't have a damn clue of what you're talking about. Was that Bill Watkins? He just refoamed the Watkins dual voice coil woofers in my Quantum Line source 2’s

The kappa 8 wasn't even that bad with a 1.8ohm dip also you can run them in "normal"mode..
The kappa 9 is the ampkiller 0.8ohm in extended mode

if you still have these recap the whole crossover you only get 15 to 20 years out of the OEM caps. the buzzing will stop and the magic will start

Millersound is the only place to have your polydomes repaired. Great company

Mine got new foams i have rs5000 and a pair of brand new old stock rs 4000's for the rear

I have P363 Primus towers in my two channel system.....
The paper dust cap (minus the outer spider) glued to the Mid driver is too heavy for the voice coil causing the distortion. Nice tweeters though. 👍
I would've found nice 2" mid domes with matching crossover frequencies from Parts Express. Sold all the surrounds and lived happily ever after!
Infinity was great until Harmon Kardon bought them.
Facts! However the Crescendo's were made after the Harmon takeover but still designed by Nuddell. That was the last good infinity speaker of the old design

I did invest $$ into trying to get them repaired. I’m not telling how much I sold them for, but it was very reasonable. That’s why I got such a fast response they sold within 2 hours.
Everybody gets to pick their spots when it comes to generosity. Some people think they get to pick when others should practice it. Buy low, sell reasonable. Fight the temptation to part out the good stuff that can be restored. When gifting vintage gear always give it to a kid who reminds you of yourself. I almost forgor, do you have anything you got for free that I can have?
You screwed up my friends all you need to do is replace the mid and the subwoofer with peerless sls and you got yourself a fantastic speakers.
Once again that is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. You need to educate yourself my friend. One way to depreciate the value of the speakers, is to replace them with non original drivers. If it's one thing I cannot stand, it's people like yourself that don't have a damn clue of what you're talking about. Let me know how good the resale is on those speakers once you replace them with peerless garbage. Take your peerless drivers and get the hell out of here.
