    On the period story:
    1. Our education system has failed us, and I’m willing to bet more than the US system when it comes to the reproductive health. You’d be surprised how many non-period havers think it’s like urinating, and those with periods can hold it in. That doesn’t even account for the pain, which is often dismissed. It’s not fun to be completely dismissed when you feel like crap.
    2. MOST IMPORTANT: employers are NOT allowed to ask for details on illness for a single day. There are rules on when a note can be required and this is more complicated than a hard and fast rule, but they should never ask about an illness after 1 day (in the US at least)

    • @clopterbug1

I regret to inform you but the education system is not to blame for the lack of education about the female reproductive system. Blame that on society. For hundreds, if not a 1000 yrs of suppression. Women were institutionalized for PMS by their family and husband. They were even murdered because at one point, they believed they had demons. It was a very taboo subject until the 1960s. Even now it is still considered gross and something to joke about. I had to have my uterus removed due to huge tumors that made me need blood transfusions every month. Let's not talk about the pain. Men and women feel very uncomfortable when I talk about it so I don't. I also have no clue when I'm going to go into menopause, still have ovaries, cause it is still taboo to talk about and my female family members died young. I'm from the USA.

My Dad, a University Prof., got tired of students being late to his class - especially at the 8 am class - so he started giving a 5 minute quiz at the beginning of class which would count toward your grade. There were some students who didn't figure this out until the quarter was almost over. It did improve class attendance time.

    • @singularity-

I don't know, I feel like that's really dickish, if he didn't know much about his students. I was late to class almost every class last semester, and it was because in addition to being full time student, I worked full time, and back then I was also taking care of my dog, who was in kidney failure. I had a lot going on. I can't imagine someone who has no idea what I'm going through penalize me, potentially cause me to fail, no matter how hard I worked to just get to class and do my best on classwork. I'm 29 and have held my full time job for 7 years. I had lost 2 family members that semester as well within a month of each other, around the one year anniversary of my mother's death. My dog's condition was worsening, I was stressed out of my mind, but I still made it to class after taking care of him all night and all morning while working from home at the same time, and after making sure my friend was awake and ready to be watching him while I was gone. On top of all that, even if I could afford parking pass, there's no parking spaces for students on campus, so I had to drive 20 minutes in, park , walk another 20 minutes to get to class, walk back, drive home, work and take care of him, clock back out, drive back in and walk for afternoon classes, then walk back, drive home, work, take care of him and make his meals while working and trying to complete homework or study for tests, then give him his subcutaneous fluids treatment while reading textbook and trying to soothe him and give him some love and treats because it couldn't have been comfortable for him. You never know what someone has to go through. Not all students live on campus and walk 5 minutes to get to class.

Simply leaving it at “I am having period cramps at a greater rate/pain than normal and can not function in a manner appropriate to a workplace environment.” There, that is all it takes. Dont go into detail with it because then yes , it can be weird. That is like discussing bowel movements. • @Tempusmon
      @Tempusmon 2 года назад

@@stevenfalcon2813 Well yes and no. If you are calling in sick for a short term illness like the flu your employer can comfortably ask away but can not compel you to come in sick. If you are calling in sick in relations to a long term or permanent illness it falls under the ADA which prevents your employer from asking questions beyond those that are job related and consistent with business necessity. As you can't really know if a sick call falls under these protections unless the employee is candid about it it's generally safer to ask fewer questions and request a sick note if you suspect anything.

I had a tech ed class in middle school (late 00s-early 10s). I actually found it very valuable and up to date. We learned modeling programs, built and programed robots, and did engineering challenges etc. Granted, it was a STEM school, but it was also a public school open to anyone. They'd even send busses to neighboring school districts if kids there wanted to attend. Unfortunately, it has become very popular and there is now a lottery to choose which interested students are able to attend.

The Grandpa white pencil story reminds me of an incident that happened when I was an electrician.
It was a full remodel of a grocery store, and I was installing light fixtures on the high ceiling. We kept having to scrub where the blue of chalk line was still visible. I've gotten mad a customer service before. Last year before Christmas I wanted to get my dad a really nice dslr Cannon camera. He's showed and interest in getting pictures and doing RUclips videos for where to go for jeeping trails in the state. I ordered it from Amazon well before the rush that the website normally experiences during the holiday season, like late October early November was when it was ordered. It was about $1000 for the camera, bag and a few accessories and the amount was already taken from my account. It gets about 2-3 weeks before Christmas and there has been zero updates on this camera since I originally placed the order. I originally sent them a message asking about it with no reply after a few days. I then call the seller and ask them nicely where the camera was in terms of shipping. At the time I wasn't too stressed out about it since there was time until Christmas so I was polite and cordial with them. They tell me that they aren't really the seller and are more of a company that ships out the products once they receive notice to do so(which they did not). They gave me a different number to call and said to talk with them about it. I call the number the "seller" gave me and the rep on the phone told me that I had to go back and call the other guy again and explain what this issue was. Then was promptly disconnected. I called the other guy and at this point I'm starting to get upset since I've been sent on this goose chase to just figure out where this product was that I paid for. The "seller" tells me this isn't the first time something like this has happened and I need to demand to talk to the supervisor for the number he gave me. I'm beyond livid at this point since I've been trying to get this taken care of for an hour an a half. When I call the number again I instantly demand to talk to a supervisor. The rep who answered tried to diascalate the situation saying we could refund the camera but it was too far gone and I refused to talk to anyone else. They had told me the camera was in stock so there was no need for the refund, I wanted them to ship it asap. When I finally got ahold of the supervisor (30 minutes after talking to the 2nd rep) he proceeds to tell me that they don't have it in stock and he will only refund $500. I freaked out. I proceed to cuss out this man and demand he give me a full refund especially after his rep said I could get a full refund. He tries to tell me otherwise and wouldn't budge. I told him everything I went through for the past few hours trying to get this fixed and their well subpar way of handling the situation. He eventually gave me back the full amount of money that was taken out of my account and I haven't used Amazon since. 🙃

This was the ONLY time she ever helped me, i was around 7 years old... She looked and said it was definitely broken and the nurse wanted to argue...

About the story with the period issues; it may not seem like a big deal to you, and frankly, it's not a big deal to me (anymore, at least, but it used to be because I was conditioned to not talk about it ever, even when there was problem) to discuss it either, having one every month for years myself and being secure in the idea that it's a natural phenomenon. However, I think you're seriously underestimating the number of ignorant ass people (mostly men in my experience, those who were I guess not taught anything about a woman's reproductive system by their parents or their school) that are shocked and appalled by even the mention of a period, much less talking about issues with it. And the pain and nausea that sometimes present with the period? Often dismissed as trivial or something we have complete control over. When we don't get disgusted looking faces for talking about it we often get hand waving and some "urgent" excuse for the person to extricate themselves from the conversation.

I’m an insurance agent, which means the customer has a policy with a certain company (like Nationwide, Progressive, etc) an I am the middle man that handles all questions/requests between the customer and insurance company. This one insurance company sent this woman a $1,400 refund for her home policy under the impression that her mortgage company made an overpayment on her account. When your home policy is escrowed (paid by mortgage company) any refunds due are sent directly back to the customer, not the mortgage company. So, for those who are unaware and like anyone in her position receiving a random $1,400 check, she was scared to cash it an called everyone she could over the course of 3 weeks just to confirm the check was valid - the insurance company and her agents confirmed it was her money and she was free to cash it. Okay, cool. Several months later this woman gets a letter from the insurance company saying the refund check they sent her was a mistake, because they realize that the overpayment on her account was actually because THEY mistakenly applied it to HER account, when it was actually meant for another customer’s account……..and they asked her to send it back. Now, I am a pretty chill person and it takes a lot for me to step outside of my professional mindset. But after confirming with the insurance company that this is accurate AND that they still want her to pay it back MONTHS LATER…. I lost it. The company didn’t even want to take responsibility for THEIR MISTAKE even after confirming months ago that the check was valid. As an insurance agent, so that basically means that I advocate on the customer’s behalf and get shit done. 18-20 calls to the company later, requesting the situation be escalated, trying as professionally as possible not to be disrespectful, I finally was able to get the company to take the charge off her account. That crap can ruin your credit score, why should she pay it when she tried for 3weeks to make sure the refund was valid? I’m glad that I could help her out honestly, insurance isn’t something a lot of people are experienced with and I’m glad to be the middle man

Tea spoon guy sounds like a weirdo. I've worked with people like that. Something is off there.

I really hate the PETA story. PETA doesn't give two craps about animals that are meant to be pets. They have, and continue to, kill perfectly adoptable kittens and puppies (and other animals, I'm sure) so that they may plant them in places they want attention put on. PETA has their own agendas; just none of it has to do with the "well-being" of animals.

I worked at a Catholic school the oldest Catholic Church in my city I was a lunch lady. Now I’m a larger woman I work two bone in the cafeteria and so I was very busy ran around a lot had ovens going steamtables going etc. and I noticed that the kids would always eat with their coats on in the cafeteria one day I looked at a couple of kids came in with the younger classes and I’m like did you have science today? And they said no why I said because your lips are blue and I assume they’re done something that would cause their lips to be blue. No they were that cold and little kids they’re skinny there’s no meat on their bones I went storming upstairs the first thing I did was went through the double doors to go upstairs cause I was in the basement and the difference in temperature was probably 10° not that it was warm but it was warmer than the cafeteria. I went up and I lost my shit on the principal I told them they could not be having those children so cold their lips were blue that was stupid and dangerous. Unfortunately this particular Catholic school was the poorest Catholic school we had three elementary schools in the city and most of these kids were on scholarship but I went home that night looked at everybody I could find the phone number for their parents which is an easy because that’s when everybody was switching to just sell phones but I told him what was going on the only thing they did to change it was and they opened the doors in the basement which may be helped 2° because of course heat rises I was moved to a different Catholic school the next year because they thought I was too much of a rebel rouser

And shame on you for not taking the answer of "I'm having a minor elective surgery for digestion issues" as all the info you need to know. Being "nosy" is not giving you a right to personal medical information. What a crappy take.

4:05:54 it depends. It used to be true when everything was merit based. These days there are a lot of diversity quotas and sometimes hires are based on filling those quotas with less qualified applicants.
That said I would never treat anyone at a call centre like that. I'd assume they were qualified to help until proven otherwise.
