Dan, thank you so much for taking the time to make this video especially for me, I appreciate it very much, you answered all my questions and I am now ready to check out for all the possible problems, thank you my friend. I discovered a short on the wire coming from the points, I put a video on my channel to show that. I will keep you and any interested guys posted on my project. Thanks again for your kindness. RUclips is really awesome and I am privilege to have such friends in other countries.
the first one I worked on from a farmall H / I wanted to mention, the hardest thing I encounter was getting to the points. this video doesn't show taking off the three screws under distributor cap to expose the points/ theres a tight seal on there that wouldn't let me remove it / so I didn't know why I couldn't just remove it by sliding it off after removing the three screws. so finally I used screw drivers to pry a little on this side then further in a diff. spot when I got it off I realized that I wrecked the seal / but if I wouldn't of pry ed from diff sides it would still be on the shaft . so I new I needed another seal / IH said there not made any more/ so talk about time consuming and it's no wonder tractor owners change them over/ to battery ignition . then before I wrecked the seal thing that stopped me from getting to the points/ I purchased a new cap from IH twice as much as a regular cap and the points I think were more to and there diff. than battery ignition ones, so if you have tractors with battery ignition you would have to stock each and learn to tell them apart/ and the coil new is about the price ( well its alot) So theres nothing easy about these . I like that fact that they produce there own electricity , but thats it
These ones came right off... But You are right, they can be very stubborn. I had one once that had all 3 screws STRIPPED. I had to use a Needle Nose Vice Grip to remove them. Unfortunately, when you mess with this Old Stuff you have to be prepared for the Worst Case Senario...You often have to Learn the Hard Way, from the Best Teacher...Experience.
Hey Dan. I have the same mag. I get a reading with the points open as well as closed. But take off the ground tab which is on the coil back side, I"m ok. It's as though the one wire coming off the coil down to the condencor is being grounded out by where it's attached to the mag body. I'm new so be gentle. HELP
Extremely helpful video. Thank you greatly. 🙌🏼

hi fantastic video on the screw on the side of mag does the switch wire go straight to that does it matter if the wire is wrapped around screw
Use a terminal end, either a ring or fork

Watch My other Videos on this subject, including eliminating the Mag Coil, they should shin the light on your problem. Good Luck
