Thoughts on 20:05 - I personally think that grace doesn’t get extended to someone who assaulted you. I think if someone was just generally shitty and actually trying to be better, sure, opening that door a bit after some time is alright, but what Ben did was legitimately criminal - and the amount of time that has passed in the show between Ben assaulting Charlie and this trip is about four months. Ben has never, not once, spoken to Charlie in public, so for him to even say out loud ‘I haven’t spoken to you properly in ages’ is wild. Also, a reminder that in season 1 episode 2, we saw a flashback of Ben being ‘nice’ to Charlie after he was outed. It wasn’t actually genuine, it was just manipulation. So I wouldn’t, personally, take this bait and turn it into an olive branch. I really like hearing your thoughts throughout the show!

I think you forgot that Ben physically assaulted Charlie. It has nothing to do with Nick asking Ben not to talk to him or about him. Ben also said very hurtful things to him at the movie theater right before Nick got into that fight. How do you expect Charlie to react? 🤨

I understand your conflicted feelings about Ben. He is definitely directing his internal homophobia outward and treating people badly as a result. It makes me wonder how bad people are hurting inside when they act that way. Sometimes, all it takes is someone to hold you accountable for your actions while doing their best to be there for you at the same time. I just don't think Ben is prepared to accept any support or responsibility at this point in his journey.

I disagree I do think Ben liked Charlie I just think he hated himself and his home life so to counter act that he lashed out and used control as a way to cope with it all but I do think he liked him I was hoping for some type of breakthrough for him not necessarily Charlie forgiving him and becoming his friend or anything but that he learned to accept himself by the end

My relationship with Ben is basically, if I was on the show, I would grab him by the ear, drag him faaar away from Charlie and then have a chat with him and help him. He is a real exercice of nuances. I hate all his actions, but I have empathy for the core emotions that he is feeling. And I want him to feel better about himself, for himself and the others around him. He is rotting inside and doesnt know how to handle it and hurts everyone around him. And no Charlie doesnt have to show any grace at Ben. That door is closed. But it doesnt mean Ben cant get better. It will just be far away from Charlie (and redemption arc isnt really the right term. But simply, character development) While I loved Imogen standing up for herself, she shouldnt have added the Charlie part. It put a spotlight on Charlie that made him uncomfortable and it was treading too close to outing Ben. But for all the rest, heck yes you deserve better

A lot of us hope for a redemption arc for Ben. But he displayed a huge amount of internalized homophobia in Seaon one. But there is always hope ❤.
Yes, I noticed Charlie's body language was completely despondent once Ben's dark energy approached! We love ride or die Nick Nelson! And yes, that's where I'm at with Ben at this moment, holding out hope for a better him! How he goes about getting there, is the question.

His moments of niceness always come off as manipulation - especially since he hasnt apologized or taken accountability of his actions yet. Always be cautious of people like that b/c they’ll break you down with those few bright spots to make you think they’ve changed - and maybe they have, but they can be changed with someone else away from you 🙅🏽♀️ Be safe & protect your peace. And yes the fact that they are kids definitely causes me to give more grace than I EVER would for an adult character who has done things similar to what Ben has done! and yes, shoutout to this gay a$$ school lol. It really isn't a very gay school at all though! We know Higgs has about 1200 students (stands to reason *some* of them must be lesbians!) so we would expect at least 120 or so queer students there. Probably more, given that recent survey that said, what was it, 30 percent of GenZ identifies as something other than totally straight! And it seems safe to assume that Truham is about the same size as Higgs, so figure the same number for the boys. That's 240 total, Year 7 through Year 13, so about 34 kids per class year between the two schools. And in the show, at this point, we know of...7 of them in Year 10 and Year 11. That's a tenth of the minimum expected number there should be! And yet, people talk about these schools being so gay...nope. It's just, we're not used to queer youth being centered in this kind of story. As an old straight lady myself I find it *delightful* to have my unthinking assumptions challenged in this way. i get your thoughts on ben and his internalized homophobia towards himself but it's definitely a bit triggering to hear someone say to someone like charlie who was sexually assaulted by ben, ignored by ben, said mean things to by ben in the cinema, and more in the nick and charlie novella, for charlie to just "be polite". charlie does not owe ben that courtesy, i'm sorry. he was just saying mean things about charlie in the past couple of episodes plus he also belittles charlie's choices when he was discussing with nick in front of the Eiffel tower. charlie has the right to not want to talk to him. sexual assault is sexual assault no matter the degree. charlie is a victim.
definitely agree but i'm pretty sure at 20:09 he didn't tell charlie to just be nice, he said that he wouldn't be mad if charlie was polite and he wouldn't be mad if charlie was "mean" and pushed him away (because it's deserved and either way his choice)
