At the risk of sounding like a 🤓, you can't get struck by thunder. Thunder is the sound that occurs after a lightning strike. That's like saying you got hit by a car's motor juddering and not the car itself (though, scientifically, this isn't the best example, as the car could move regardless of what sounds the engine makes whereas thunder ALWAYS succeeds lightning).
I think the reason why Mojang didn't set the gamerule to true by default is because it instantly teleports you, getting rid of the vanilla portal delay, and it ONLY does that when riding an entity, which I think they don't like because it is inconsistent. Mojang could either get rid of the portal delay entirely, or apply the delay regardless if you are riding an entity or not, however the latter will make minecarts not able to "connect" or keep their speed between dimensions, unless they make an exception for them.

honestly I don't like the 15th anniversary map because for the birthday of such an influential game I think the world should showcase all that the game can do IN VANILLA. The 15th anniversary map feels like a minecraft themed spinoff game and I think that it could be more "minecrafty." The 10 year anniversary map was incredible because it was able to celebrate the game and show off everything about it by using the games core elements whereas the 15 year anniversary map is all just showing off what the modding community can do. And while that is a great part about minecraft, for most people we just like to enjoy the base game and all of it's capabilities. I would like to know if anyone else feel similarly or if I'm just crazy.

it is funny that Mojang decided to revert back to the original piston sound (with modifications) but it is a good demonstrator that Mojang actually listens to its community and tries to deliver what people want
i think what they SHOULD have done with the piston sounds, are just play with the EQ a bit. i think the bad part about pistons (apart from them being so loud) are how grading the highs are. i think if that was toned down a bit, but that heavy mechanical sound remained, that would be good. (also, THIS is what gets mojang allows us to keep? not the two pixel fireflies?)
I think it's important to note that the portal nausea effect gets completely skipped if the gamerule is set to "true," so I think it's likely they set it to "false" by default in order to make that remain mandatory
I feel like the sticky piston should have the new fishton sound and the regular piston should keep the old sound since it fits thematically and most loud redstone builds use more sticky pistons than regular pistons anyway, so it'll fix the sound issue
This is great news! I have a bunch of songs I'd love to have in minecraft, but it's difficult to choose when you're limited to the amount of discs in the game... Now I "just" need to figure out how datapacks work and hope I can make my own. Still sucks that they changed the copper lights. Would've been nice to have a very simple single gametick delayer. It'd make it much easier to build fast and compact redstone contraptions.
The technical players who'd want the game rule false to maintain builds, are the ones who could more easily change the gamerule. I think it should be defaulted on, I can't think of a easy build that would need it off.

it is funny that Mojang decided to revert back to the original piston sound (with modifications) but it is a good demonstrator that Mojang actually listens to its community and tries to deliver what people want

i think what they SHOULD have done with the piston sounds, are just play with the EQ a bit. i think the bad part about pistons (apart from them being so loud) are how grading the highs are. i think if that was toned down a bit, but that heavy mechanical sound remained, that would be good.
(also, THIS is what gets mojang allows us to keep? not the two pixel fireflies?)

I think it's important to note that the portal nausea effect gets completely skipped if the gamerule is set to "true," so I think it's likely they set it to "false" by default in order to make that remain mandatory
i'm kind of sad they didn't use one of the suggestions i saw frequently which was add a way to mute or quiet the pistons instead
I feel like the sticky piston should have the new fishton sound and the regular piston should keep the old sound since it fits thematically and most loud redstone builds use more sticky pistons than regular pistons anyway, so it'll fix the sound issue

This is great news! I have a bunch of songs I'd love to have in minecraft, but it's difficult to choose when you're limited to the amount of discs in the game... Now I "just" need to figure out how datapacks work and hope I can make my own.
Still sucks that they changed the copper lights. Would've been nice to have a very simple single gametick delayer. It'd make it much easier to build fast and compact redstone contraptions.

The technical players who'd want the game rule false to maintain builds, are the ones who could more easily change the gamerule. I think it should be defaulted on, I can't think of a easy build that would need it off.
