26:03 "stinking cloud" I found a use for this with web you mobilize, sleeping targets have no defense (or so i experienced it) I use archers :D it helps them do damage faster
34:40 It's actually funny that you mention this stretch use-case for Melf's, because I used something similar to carry my dogshit-tier elementalist wizard through Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous on Core. Basically, I equipped an item that buffed your elemental attacks whenever you took elemental damage, then upped my resistance to ice. I'd convert Melf's Ass Arrow to ice, shoot myself with it, take around a point or two of cold damage every turn, and power up all of my ice spells to insane levels damage. Fun stuff. Also INCREDIBLY stupid in retrospect. So yeah, I've basically used Melf's like that to """"real""" effect.
Basically with spells you have to know what enemy you facing change up you spells for that enemy. This game only gets harder the further you progress multiple saves is a must you can get a really good sword in the temple district as well. For people that are beginners you'll find out one way or another what will work.
It has happened. I did take knock spell in my book in my most recent run. But just because my only thief is Nalia and she failes at least once per dungeon to open a container.
Stinking Cloud and later Web makes so many tough fights in BG1 cakewalk. Disable enemy party and kill them with arrows or wand of fire. Later when you have ring of free action and spidersbane sword you can even melee
Also you want to cast spells protection and everything if you played this game before you know when you need to get you party ready for a fight, which I've learned tha through seeing my dad play it then playing it myself not doing nearly as well mind you,but playing this game so much you know what's coming but that doesn't mean you'll survive this game is about learning and finding out.
Detect evil is useful once in BG2, only the skinstealer quest, to be able to save the human female npc in Trademeet. But that's about it. Since it obviously doesn't measure trustworthiness.
41:22 Look. Try to look this lock spell called knock from a different way, lv2 spells are kinda stinkers. your wizard can have this as a side, the potential is infinite, to me when i saw this spell this first time i was stunned :D that it exists. 2 things one you don't need rouge any more, you just endure traps (if you can and out heal them). Second you can have rouge/Priest ork, that heals and dos traps. 3th If you need a rouge badly you can save up 250 points of skill by having 1 simple sleep in your book or sacrifice one lv2 spell on your sorceress THAT I do because that is how bad lv2 sleeps are. (m y rouge can have maxed pick pocket more early on :D) This spell give 250 ponts of lock pick not spent to your rouge, for the price of if wizard nothing, if sorceress she will still have web :D i take on my sorceress Luck and lock :D both all of them never with regrets, (and invisibility because it ave 250 points to my rouge again). - Bottom line is rouge is = knock, spell, invisibility,..the only thing rouge cant be replaced on is find traps and steal (latter is something you can give up). There is backstab not my cup of tea :D
Good one, i recommend 1.25 playback speed for this one, boys. It never occured to me to target enemies with the strength spell actually lower their strength. You learn something new every day.
56:59 I like this spell :D because unless you fight mages you need 1-2 web, or you have sorceress and a wizard and web is out doing its thing, so what will you put in your remaining slots? I say it Lv2 spels are so bad that a smaller blind (Ray of Enf) is the best thing you can put in your slots :D
@@Davaeornlol ray is def a top tier if paired with contagion. i killed all dragons except abizgal using this combo...1ray 2-3 contagion, dead. or a 5 str dragon is nice even without it..
@@vernadithsedillo5126 You can use it with Archer's Called Shot as well. The only issue is that killing by attribute drain doesn't provide experience. No reputation loss either though, and there's potential in that.
Trolls you need posion, undead cleric needs magical equipment to protect against level drain, death ward is also good facing against vampires you'll also need stakes to kill in coffin, this is a fun game, trust me you can get all the advice you want but what I can tell you play it and find out this is a learning game, playcthe game how you want to and learn play this game multiple time you get better.
I cant beleive im actually chiming in on one of these but knock is a B teir not c. its very rarely needed as you say but if you are dual classing FROM a thief in BG2 then you may not want a theif with you while you wait for them to hit the dual class target level but also. it doesnt just unlock but it opens the door so if you want to be in stealth mode and walk through a door without losing stealth then its pretty useful for that. lastly it allows you to use a limited theif levels to not even put points into a pick locks so you can have much better other skills.
Correct me if I am wrong but in classic bg2(not EE), I recall there was a bug where if you cast a luck spell on a character who has weapon proficiency of 5(5 *), the character will have reduced proficiency to no proficiency or one *(1*). I recall this is something like what Rod of Terror glitch does but in the opposite way, so like....Rod of terror causes a game to create data overflow if the user has lesser then 0 Charisma it will set the user's Charisma to 25 (The ring of human influence is required for this) So what this could do is that if you cast it on sarevok who supposed to have proficiency in two-handed sword, it will reduce his proficiency to 0, giving him a massive penalty on his APR and Thac0 and Damage and this bug is supposed to be permanent. This also should work on some dragons you mentioned with strength spell(Adalon or firkrag), So with a conjunction of strength and luck casted on the target, this may make some fights easier.
I don't think dragons have any proficiency points they should have a claw weapon equipped that sets their stats and attacks automatically. Not sure though, thanks for commenting friend!
It important to keep you reputation up till you get ready to go to spellhold, either by paying the gold to the dude if your a good character or if your evil helping the vampires if your evil like me lol.
Good list. Didn't realize you could use Strength as an attack spell. About Knock, I wouldn't take it on a sorc, but if you only get your thief's, or say, Montaron's or Coran's lock picking to 70 or 80 to save points for detect illusion or set traps, then having a mage have one knock spell memorized for those occasional hard locks can be useful.
You gave strength A tier because it can be used to reduce enemy strength to 18 and that is very useful when fighting high strength enemies. Doesn't ray of enfeeblement do the same thing but a lot better, reducing enemy strength to 5? But is C tier? Am I missing something here? P.S: love your videos. They even inspired me to make similar videos for Dragon Age games in my own channel. Though I only have one shitty video so far 😂
53:08 why is Luck good, it IS cumulative with chant (- Lv2 Luck Spell short duration 7 shots BUT its commutative with chant (chant better) (save from -1 to -3)) for that 7 shot you want to snipe that wizard in the enemy to hit them and you don't rally have anything else to pick from Its literally after web and stink, its enfeeblement and luck not from this 4 only luck dos something vs bosses, and what it dos is more damage. (there was a number difference on stats so chant wont cancel luck) would be nice to know for sure but thing is vs boss fight this is the only offensive thing that dos something
I appreciate your reasoning about the Wand of Fire, i think it’s a bit contrived to rank fire spells low tier due to meta knowledge. I think it would’ve been clearer to rank it as a spell then state that you don’t need to memorise it. Just my take :)
Even as a spell it's fairly lackluster and risky tbh, I should have worded it differently though you're right. Generally speaking mage spells are frustrating in the sense certain spells are just so much damn better than others :( .Thanks for watching and commenting friend!
Slow is really good spell for fast enemy you want haste it's a must for quickly dispatching enemy.I literally got back in this game today dont do what I did wasted alot of coin getting reputation up,you have to have cleric in you party it's a must for raising the dead and the lesser drain something that gets rid of energy drain and you have to have a thief to disarm traps and find traps,I wouldnt recommend using invisibility defeat the enemy get xp on core rules trust me you'll need it when you face John Iranicus in hell,he will cast death speaks and if you dont know what your doing you'll die he is the hardest boss in all games I've ever played yes it boring having to do everything but trust me it pays off,you need in your part cleric, thief fighter, trust me experiment find out what your doing I love this game but it you'll hate it if you dont know much about this game.Chatacter creation reroll till you get 90 or more I got 94 as a mage, also if your playing as chaotic evil dont get character that are good they will fight you and dislike you real bad, dragons are horrible especially the one at the end of the game get magic that can resist mind control when you get to mind player or you'll die easily. If your new trust expect to die slot till you get better equipment and spells create multiple saves.
When you get to the keep switch to poison spell to deal with trolls and, gett magical equipment to deal with energy drain in the graveyard district, haste is best spell to make fighting faster to deal with enemy, there slot I could say this game is harder then dark souls, you have to think alot during this game, against spiders you want remove poison spells healing spell work after. There a dragon in a keep you have to use cloud kill witch works mind players are the worst the underdark is a pain, point being you have to do every single quest you can before going to spellhold, you want to be well over or close to level 30 before you go.Point being haveing seen and played this game several time you have to constantly think about everything you do it can can have dire consequence, you want to be pretty level up before going to the sphere there demons and iron golems which will give you trouble.
Just a little correction on Luck. The way it works is not the same as chant. Chant, and other spells like it, give a +1 bonus to rolls, Luck ADJUSTS rolls by 1. This distinction means that you crit on a 19-20, and can never critically miss an attack or saving throw. That being said, 3 rounds is incredibly short, but if it were 1 turn per level, or even 1 round per level, it would be much higher than B tier, possibly S tier. I know there's an item that gives a luck bonus, but I cannot remember if it is in IWD or BG, but that item is godlike.
I'm 100% positive luck does not work that way because aloras rabbit foot literally gives 2 luck and she absolutely critically misses all the time. I'm fairly certain the die is cast and luck is applied AFTER but it won't knock crit / misses off the table completely. If you are referring to how it works in IWD you may indeed be correct, my knowledge of IWD is nothing compared to bg, but I am 100% sure that's not how it works in BG.
I just found out that if you found a trap you can't disarm there is no way to pick the lock with a thief but you can use Knock to open the stash. S TIER SPELL!! :P
I'm redoing the arcane series soon.tm to include iwd, the spell sucks tho unfortunately, it does some decent damage but unlike fire you cant expect your frontline to be immune to cold, a bigger downside is it does nothing to undead who are naturally immune and it can (and will) destroy drops by freezing corpses :(
Two legit reasons to use Stinking Cloud over Web: 1) Unlike Web, Stinking Cloud isn't stopped by freedom of movement. 2) You might find Stinking Cloud way sooner than Web, especially in BG1.
Mirror Image used to be even better in original Baldur's Gate (by the way, it's 1998, 2000 is the sequel's release date) -- there was no dice roll involved, images were always hit before the mage.
I couldn't remember exactly when it was officially released I remember buying it late 90s or 2000 ish, my memory on the original is pretty fuzzy I can't even remember half the raiding I did in wow (which was much more recent) but I do remember mirror image being very strong. Thanks for commenting and watching friend.
Not at all "meaningful" when it comes to the grand scope of the saga, but in BG:EE, as soon as you get your 2 slots for Strength, you can cart an extra 2 Ankheg Plates back to Beregost if you fast travel to the Temple to the east of it, since it places you close enough to the travel border that even though it wears off in-transit, you can cross the border and drop the plates right outside the smithy. Not a big deal at all, really, but if you're strapped for cash early and selling them, carrying an extra 2 per trip is worth the slots, imo~! (2 uses ensures you don't have to drop any if you get an encounter on the way, otherwise you could either do another character / skip the dropping-on-ground part.)
But Davaeorn! If you're playing a Level 21 Fighter-->Mage then once you get your Fighter levels back, your THACO will be 0! You can have another mage cast Greater Malison and then have your Cleric hit one enemy with Doom while your Fighter-->Mage follows up with a Ghoul Touch and repeat the process with every enemy affected by Greater Malison...Cleric comes in with Doom then Fighter-->Mage comes in with Ghoul Touch! And then you can use Wish and savescum 'till you get all your spells back and repeat the process! S-class combo, for realz! LOL! I even posted on this video before but I couldn't resist! I've seen the light with Ghoul Touch!
22:40 ohh so there is spell for wizard's to resist fear for the party :D in LV 2 how nice haha-ha.....yep without fear immunity dragon and Lich fight sure get hard ha-ha...you stay out of line of sight simular crome and the crome simulars and you send an army of Efreets (mostly under time stop) to make the lich use u pp al of its sleps so when all tis spells are gone and out of enchantments you kil it haa-haa...just how i always did it 5 minutes ago :D its nice i know about this spell....yep :D did you know fear is disenchantable :D and if you character dies, its off from them :D....haa.....read all 600 spells in the game when you make you first character the wizard hahhaa.... thank you for this wide (its not like i need it i cleared black pits I-II straight without this one but i may add it to my tool kit :D)
What do you think of Ray of Enfeeblement combined with an archers with improved haste and called shot? Called shot lasts 10 seconds and -1 strength penalty lasts 10 seconds so they should be able to get 5 shots off within that time.

Glad to see these uploads man. I'm having a bit "packed" month, lots of holidays/work/stuff to to take cre of... So I'm afraid I'm missing the recent streams :| But I'll try to catch on them all.
I wish you the best man, cheers to you.
Cheers to you too friend, god bless!
26:03 "stinking cloud" I found a use for this with web you mobilize, sleeping targets have no defense (or so i experienced it) I use archers :D it helps them do damage faster
34:40
It's actually funny that you mention this stretch use-case for Melf's, because I used something similar to carry my dogshit-tier elementalist wizard through Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous on Core.
Strength=carry a bunch of ankeg shells to beregost. S tier all the way. You can make almost as much money as when you spam goodberries.
Basically with spells you have to know what enemy you facing change up you spells for that enemy. This game only gets harder the further you progress multiple saves is a must you can get a really good sword in the temple district as well. For people that are beginners you'll find out one way or another what will work.
This is beautiful
You're beautiful buddy thx for watching
Very efficiently explained with great examples
Awesome vid! Can't wait for the rest. Thanks!
Thanks buddy! I'm sad to say 2 are a bit boring but three are pretty fun!
This video quality looks like some cast Blur on it. Still S tier video.
Weird shit it should be fine.
Dig the videos! Finally trying a play through with Edwin. I never take him!
I learnt today that the chant actually gives the same luck bonus the luck spell gives, meaning they don't stack with each other.
Resist fear is so useful, not just for dragons but anyone casting horror early on.
Good one, i recommend 1.25 playback speed for this one, boys.
It never occured to me to target enemies with the strength spell actually lower their strength.
You learn something new every day.
Thanks for watching friend! A lot of cleric spells do the same, quite nasty if you can get them off. God bless!
Good advice.
Great Video! I literally just used Ray of Enfeeblement on Firkraag in the base game...it was hilarious :)
Haha thanks for watching friend god bless!
Going through these slower than I like but they are really helpful.
Thanks for watching I'm glad you're enjoying them
Aw yiss second spell guide
Thanks for watching friend!
I recall this is something like what Rod of Terror glitch does but in the opposite way, so like....Rod of terror causes a game to create data overflow if the user has lesser then 0 Charisma it will set the user's Charisma to 25 (The ring of human influence is required for this)
So what this could do is that if you cast it on sarevok who supposed to have proficiency in two-handed sword, it will reduce his proficiency to 0, giving him a massive penalty on his APR and Thac0 and Damage and this bug is supposed to be permanent.
This also should work on some dragons you mentioned with strength spell(Adalon or firkrag), So with a conjunction of strength and luck casted on the target, this may make some fights easier.
Again this is very old memory heard over the "rumor" that it does so. So I am not so sure
Thanks for watching and commenting buddy!
Very chill and informative.
Glad you enjoy it friend, thanks for watching and commenting!
I love using web and then summoning spiders to fight the tangled enemies.
Glitterdust and invisibility are S tier to me! Play since 1998. I don't know. I agree 99% of what you say. But these 2 spells are very strong.
Aoe invisbility is just so much better but invis is good for backstabs too for sure.
Love rocking Rey of enfeeb on giants
I appreciate your reasoning about the Wand of Fire, i think it’s a bit contrived to rank fire spells low tier due to meta knowledge. I think it would’ve been clearer to rank it as a spell then state that you don’t need to memorise it. Just my take :)
Even as a spell it's fairly lackluster and risky tbh, I should have worded it differently though you're right. Generally speaking mage spells are frustrating in the sense certain spells are just so much damn better than others :( .Thanks for watching and commenting friend!
I think you should do a Gorax the Ghoul appreciation day video. Full stop.
you can also cast globe of blades and than lv 2 invisibility or sanctuary and walk uninterrupted doing 10d10 dmg turning enemies to chunks for free.
Yeah it just never works for me for some damn reason :(
@Davaeorn good videos, think you're gonna add the full list in description with timestamps like you did with Part 1 soon?
Yeah I'm behind on my youtubin, all vids should have spell lists by tomorrows end, thanks for watching and commenting!
26:03 i do this with wish its fun to pick all stats are 18 including enemy than pop another wish to ask 25 stats for you :D
Where's Snilloc's Snowball Swarm? Thought you played with IWD spells via SCS
57:26 that must be a bug for you I've cast it on Sarevok on a couple of occasions and the guy was rooted to the spot.
You dont have to have certain companion unless your going in the sphere quest.
Isn't Luck good for out-of-combat rolls?
Powerword Sleep seems like it's OP in pokemon.
Used Stinking Cloud + Web combo so many times in BG1
I just found out that if you found a trap you can't disarm there is no way to pick the lock with a thief but you can use Knock to open the stash. S TIER SPELL!! :P
YUGE
Opinions on the IWD added Snowball Swarm?
I'm redoing the arcane series soon.tm to include iwd, the spell sucks tho unfortunately, it does some decent damage but unlike fire you cant expect your frontline to be immune to cold, a bigger downside is it does nothing to undead who are naturally immune and it can (and will) destroy drops by freezing corpses :(
Minsc is all the strength I need!
Hell yeah
This is fantastic!!! I also love your “No Mans Sky” ranking system.
Thanks for watching :)
Two legit reasons to use Stinking Cloud over Web:
1) Unlike Web, Stinking Cloud isn't stopped by freedom of movement.
2) You might find Stinking Cloud way sooner than Web, especially in BG1.
You do get SC earlier but I can't think of any fight's I'd want it over web tbh XD Thanks for watching and commenting friend!
Thanks for your help man!
Thanks for watching and commenting friend.
Have been using Web/Entangle combo has worked well so far . Using original BG1.
Yeah original BG entangle was much better imo. Thanks for watching and commenting sorry I didn't respond to your comment on time!
What about ghoul touch on a fighter mage?
Did you forgot to talk about the first spell?
#1 Mirror Image
Agreed
Did something remove your audio? Nothing has words right now.
REEE
Wait what about Cat's Grace?
We still need that companion guide!
soon.tm
Casting time of luck is 2, casting time of chant is 9
Man, you sound kinda like Randall from Clerks, that's a good thing ;)
Man I haven't seen that in a long time. Thanks for watching and commenting buddy
Thanks broski
22:40 ohh so there is spell for wizard's to resist fear for the party :D in LV 2 how nice haha-ha.....yep without fear immunity dragon and Lich fight sure get hard ha-ha...you stay out of line of sight simular crome and the crome simulars and you send an army of Efreets (mostly under time stop) to make the lich use u pp al of its sleps so when all tis spells are gone and out of enchantments you kil it haa-haa...just how i always did it 5 minutes ago :D
its nice i know about this spell....yep :D
did you know fear is disenchantable :D and if you character dies, its off from them :D....haa.....read all 600 spells in the game when you make you first character the wizard hahhaa....
thank you for this wide (its not like i need it i cleared black pits I-II straight without this one but i may add it to my tool kit :D)
I got really excited when you were talking about the wand of fire, and then I realized you were saying Wand of Fire and not Wonkafier.
WHOOPS
What do you think of Ray of Enfeeblement combined with an archers with improved haste and called shot? Called shot lasts 10 seconds and -1 strength penalty lasts 10 seconds so they should be able to get 5 shots off within that time.
I think landing a ray is really tough tbh XD Possible though! Thanks for commenting friend!
@@Davaeornlol Watched your spell videos about a year ago when I was making a build. Computer broke, so BG got paused. Got a new one so now I'm back. Your videos are an amazing source and I use them as reference all the time. Keep up the good work!
