Im an ex Army Ranger vet. You have a great vid. Very informative. Im in the woods almost every week and I still do military hikes. I have a bag that weighs 19.8 Lbs. I made it 61 days out of this bag. You can catch your food...clean your food...cook your food.....purify water...shelter and provide navigation. I live in south central Louisiana...the practice is a little more challenging with the alligators and the snakes. I still enjoy it though. Im 63 years old :) Thanks....Charles

NW LA here. Luckily in my neck of the woods, gators aren't an issue. Them snakes are though. And just from a painful experience, do keep your eyes peels for stripped bark scorpions because we do have'em and they love to burrow down in the deep bark of pine trees.

Add a pencil sharpener and the pencil become Fire tender as does any twig that will fit into the sharpener.
In other words add a carpenters pencil sharpener to any kit that includes fire making capability.

This bag is awesome for anyone with disposable income *OR* a gift for a significant other that is into anything outdoors related. Apart from that, just your video alone is enough for someone to replicate this kit at any price point that's comfortable and add their own personal needs/ideas.

The wire saw should be made into a bucksaw to keep the blade taut. Or use two sticks inside the rings makes them easy to hold.

    • @littlejackalo5326
      @littlejackalo5326 3 года назад

The wire saw is pretty much worthless. You expend tremendous amounts of energy with those, and they take forever to cut. You're better off slipping a folding saw in that bag.

People can whine about price, or "learn how to build your own", but honestly it's a good kit. Factoring in their time to assemble it, overhead and a reasonable profit, the retail is high but these are high price components. The MSRP is DoD high and I expect ESEE just doesn't want to do direct retail as it is in pain in the ass. This screams "inspectable and issuable module" made for.... someone. For a kit you can forget for five or six years, and inspect when you buy a new car it works. And if I had to build more than, say, 20 comparable kits for fleet service of some kind, say bush pilots, yeah, it is worth the money to just buy these.

It's easy to miss if you aren't familiar with them, but that Swiss Army Knife is a 3 layer knife and also has a wood saw, between the two blades and the openers. It looks like a liner so it's easy to miss. This saw is thicker and slightly longer than the one on the Leatherman Rebar, and is very capable for it's size. Also very good for striking a ferro rod with the back of the saw.

Good review. I think the kit is fairly priced for what you get. You might be able to put it together for less but that doesn’t mean it’s not a decent value. You have to pay to have someone curate the kit for you.
I would suggest adding a Grayl water filter and a military poncho. I’d probably switch out the SAK for a Leatherman Wave too. I think you were already going to add medical supplies and food so it should be good at that point.

I love your videos. I feel your presentation, breakdown etc. was very informative as all your videos are. I also like to read the comments. I see many people are relating that building your own bag is better and/or cheaper. But, what I got out of the first or second sentence in your video is this bag is for someone that kinda wants a kinda all inclusive, almost complete pack. You can add this to whatever you already have, duplicate the items and save money. It didn’t seem like you said it was the end all be all. It does cost a bit of money, but you get what you pay for. Especially in this case. Everything was name brand, military grade, and quality. Your review is ultra thorough and super captivating. Great video. Maybe attempt to create a video duplicating this bag’s content and compare the savings and quality. Thanks Bro. I’m getting this bag to stash in my backpack. Peace!

Really like how you went over everything. But I guess my up bringing I find it hard to justify one of these kits. My whole life has been wilderness survival from boy scouts and years of summer camps to army Ranger bat. It's nice having all that stuff but it's been my experience when something happens it's what you have on you that matters.
I see you get a lot of name brand stuff but over $500. For that kind of money you can really build a hell of a kit.
I guess if you didn't have time to put something together and you was traveling I guess your right. But I'm more about learning to live with has little as possible. Great job semper fi

I definitely see the quality of a $500 bag. Maybe not $700 but definitely 5 unlike those other over priced bags filled with (IMO) garbage that could have been built at Walmart for mere penny's on the dollar. This would be good as a tag along bag during normal emergency circumstances but I wouldn't use it in a SHTF situation and only for one good reason. That reason is there are too many bright colored objects and I wouldn't want to use anything that would attract attention to myself. If they made these bags with full earth tone color contents, I could see myself buying a couple of them, adding a few things extra and stashing them in caches not far from my home just in case I loose everything else or have a friend in need. With this kit though, if it's going to be supplied with climbing equipment, I think they should up the rope length to at least 60' and a couple extra carabiner's because not every situation is going to warrant only a 30' stretch of rope and may require more than one tie point. Outside of that, it's an impressive and well thought out bag but the bright colors gotta go. That can was the selling point because of everything it holds and doubles as cook ware.

Considering the mess tin kit is $200 on its own and the knife $105 on its own, I'd say the kit is priced right. You can put together a kit for less money with cheaper stuff, but you're not going to beat this by much, if at all, if you use the same quality of stuff.

Problem is, people who buy premade survival packs are the ones that end up throwing them somewhere with the false sense of security that they can survive anything. Then they never proceed to acquire the skills or the knowledge necessary to use said survival packs.
To those people I would just advise to take a 2l bottle full of water a jacket and some food and stay put until they are found. The average person doesn't know how to start a fire with a ferro rod (I didn't see a bic lighter in that pack) neither use the knife to create other tools, so they're just dead weight to them.
And to the person that tries to learn survival skills I would advise to make his own survival pack depending on the environment that he plans to go.

Look not sure how it’s a thrive bag. Definitely survive bag. No food was a let down. No decent flashlight. But all items seem high quality. Also all these bags you review, do you just keep them in your garage? So 12,000 days of survival?😂

It's an excellent all around loadout just a bit pricey I'd say worth it though you always need to customize the kits for different creature comforts keep grinding!!(=✌💚
