Skyrim really is a game kept alive 12 years (and counting) thanks to modders, not even Bethesda, and that people can access mods for free. If they update it so that the mods have to be paid I feel that neither modders would benefit since being as is Bethesda only seeks benefits for themselves. Also if there is something that the company does wrong the community is who solves it for the community, while they save money and time. If all mods were paid, the same Bethesda would be released.

  • @Bongwater33

This happens all the time, if they make it too difficult to and expensive to mod legally, people will just start using pirated software and pirated mods, these are tech savvy people, not internet noobs who are into modding. All we have to do is agree to keep our mods on a certain version and stick to it and ignore bethesda/steam and their "forced updates". Ive modded games from pirate bay before, it works just fine.

Beth is owned by Microsoft now, and they want to milk it as much as possible, but what has kept these game going for so long is the modders, and FREE mods. Pay if you want, not if you have to. Its a fanbase that has kept these game going, not the improvements that Beth did. This is a sure way to bury their games. Its sad, but eventually, even this journey had to be over. Only solution is the age old principle, vote with your wallet. Don't buy any mods from Beth, and it will fade away

Pros and Cons - We users might get much more space to download mods on consoles for all Beth games. However, Beth may set it up to where modders can charge for mods and of course Beth makes a percentage. If this happens it can open jobs up for people and others will desire to make mods. Money makes world go round. Lots of kids are pissed but Nexus and Patreon have been doing this all along. Modders ask for support and payment for their work. As long as it's not forced things should go well. But I'm a realist...something tells me Beth is greedy and has a pattern of lying. I prefer talking to you live with a microphone. Big gamer and vlogger myself if you're interested some day.

Anytime Bethesda wants to retry for paid mods it's in their best interest to push updates that break as many mods as possible. Cull the competition as it were. And as the game gets older and older more and more authors move on leaving their mods as is.

Have to make money off the Sony side somehow. It's a real stab in the heart to those that give their personal time to make mods for us to enjoy....then a Corp takes it as their own and makes money off of it.

I would expect that a lot of the more popular Mods are going this route and will be either abandoned or not supported anymore. If they do a subscription-based system, I will potentially try it. As long as there guaranteed to work out of the box with no conflict issues. As for there being no free mods, that won't happen. Nexus mods is a strong site with many subscribers and members. Also, we will have authors who continue to provide free mods, and the tools to make them work. I don't think it is going to be as successful for Bethesda as they would like it to be. However, I am very sure that it's a testing ground for ES6, and Starfield. Its already present in fallout4 as a main part of the game. My advice is to not update, and save those mods.

I get it, but say you download 100, 200, even 500 to a 1000 mods? Two dollars each adds up. Many modders are using assets they don't own, so perhaps a charge for creation kit which will then cause modders to charge even for small mods. I have fruity pebbles face on my characters from a mod conflict I have to sort. Can you imagine having paid for that? This will hurt new modders and small mods. I'm okay with tested and cleaned mega mod packages maybe having a charge, most like to donate to those if they can. We'll see where this goes.

I believe in the free method as well. But the only thing about that is that most of these mod authors truly bust their butts to make that free mod content we get to see and they dont get paid a dime for that work. Were talking fround breaking stuff here. So im also not against them getting pay for what they do in another avenue. Making some of those mods requires some healthy money in of itself. So i think they deserve "something" for the work they do. These people even occuasionally get harrassed by hate downloaders on a daily. Stuff that makes some mod authors quit the scene. So again im ok with a place people xan spend money to support them.

I dont mind 2.99 for a great mod if the money goes to guy who made it, but its gonna be 9.99 and the modder gets 10 cents, the rest is for google and microsoft so I'll pass 😆 wont be buying es6 with this knowledge

Yeah no, not a fan of this change at all, but it doesn't surprise me. Starfield was a bomb and they're firing on all cylinders and avenues to recoup the money with their greedy asses. And what better way than to charge for mods? SO glad I got into PC gaming when i did a few years ago...

If only you people bought starfield and gave it a chance instead of hating on it for no reason

@@_CrimsonBlade oh, so now you’re saying its the fans’ fault? after fallout 76? It’s Microtransactions? How greedy as a company they’ve become? If only you people waited for reviews…. 🤦🏽‍♂️ #Walletgamers

Im fairly sure that their going to be expanding the CC massively. Its an already set up storefront with very little value to interact with when it comes to skyrim due to the anniversary perchase. If they take away the free alternative then their going to be destroyed like last time.
I won't pretend to know what bugthesda is planning, but if they go full run into paid mods again, then im migrating to pc. Even then there most recent releses and how there handeling them dont inspire faith in FO5 or ES6. Honestly their games success has nothing to do with them so this just seems like a pathetic attempt to sqeeeze more money out of their last truely "good" game.
Ps skyrim is a good game but that was well over 11 years ago now and its been released about 8 times. Without mods is a pretty but still very much buggy game(ive yet to see alduin appear during the ES cutscene, without mods, the game is literally unbeatable for me).

Time to move on to to a different game. Skyrim is over 10 years old. Good bye bugthesda.... starfield is a train wreck.. I'm done.

The vast majority of the mods out there are junk. I'd be mad as hell if I paid for a junk mod and couldn't get my money back.
