Speaking as someone who has been watching this movie for 10+ years now, I loved watching a reaction from a fresh set of eyes. I just want to point out (you've probably gotten this comment already but I dunno, it's a cool factoid) that Joker dumping the wine out of the glass is supposed to mirror earlier in the scene when Bruce goes outside and dumps his wine over the balcony. Showing that neither of them want their senses dulled in a public area. It creates a fun little parallel between our protagonist and antagonist. Love your videos. Keep being your delightful self.
@@zennonschmitz Mind. Blown. You're really not wrong though. Batman is the non-burnt side, order. Joker is the burnt side, chaos. Or Batman is Fascism and Joker is freedom. Depends on how you look at it
Fun Fact the joker licks his lips so much because the makeup they used to make the scars on his face kept falling off so he constantly had to keep licking for them to stay on. He was doing in so much during shooting that they decided to put it in his character
Funny thing is the three guys represent Gordon, Dent and Wayne who each are targeted by the joker to see who cracks(albeit he doesn't know who the batman is but this is metaphor so). So in a way tofu saw a way cooler version of who joins the Joker billiard fight.
51:25 What do you think Joker actually made it so that if he turned the key, his own boat would have blown up? HAHAHA I think Joker would have found that all kinds of ironic and funny.
Ditto for the scene where the hospital explosives didn't all go off at once. Ledger stayed in character and just kept pressing the detonator, until they finally exploded.
@@fynnthefox9078 she obviously didn't know that. I hope batman movies stay the same. I wish to see another batman trilogy like TDKT. Hopefully Mat Reeves pulls it off.
Your comment about the Joker being “unintentionally hilarious” struck me. I think Heath Ledger and Chris Nolan deliberately chose that because it makes it so much more effective when he does something scary. A roller coaster of emotion.
See the difference there is she only has real world people and other more redeemable villains to compare him to, joker is made to be a irredeemable sociopath, she just has to find that out herself
I actually can't believe people would hate this reaction style though. Tofu giving her own insight and thoughts to the characters and vocalizing her thoughts is what makes these reaction so genuine. Can't wait to watch this when not drowning in exams.
@Meatball eh, it's the internet. Shit like this gets more normal the bigger you grow. Not much to do but to ignore and leave people be, at least don't feed into their.... whatever they like doing Also sorry to hear about your family, best of wishes :)
I was very specifically hooked to this channel by the editing style and the discussion (plus games stuff). She got her formula down. Not that silence or "uhhh haha a thing happened... uhhh... uuuhhh... haha another thing..." that we find on so many reaction channels. The love and effort is there. Thank you Queen Tofu for going above and beyond.
@@8aba_Yaga I don't think so, to avoid copyright strikes you have to be careful with the screen time, like how much of a series or movie you actually show. Usually it's like 10-20 min. Actually, when it came to talking with the prosthetics on, after a little while, the feathering would become loosened, so to combat this, Heath Ledger made the decision to lick his lips, so that they would stay in place which makes sense for the character of the Joker as he needs to keep doing that after talking to keep his scars from hurting. It's freaking GENIUS what Heath did with that character, there is no doubt that he earned that Oscar.
Actually she’s right Joker gave Gotham 8 years of peace, Corrupt Cops Jail, Mob Disbanded and Batman Retired. How ironic Joker was the Hero that saved Gotham.
Fun fact: The Joker's tongue flicking "tick" was actually unintentional. Heath Ledger would obsessively lick the scar prosthetics around his mouth, and they decided to keep it in the movie.
It was a combination. Heath came up with the look of the scars himself and took a selfie of himself with them and showed it to Nolan who loved it. The make up department came up with reusable prosthetics for the scars and applied them everyday. Heath applied and modified some of the face paint himself to make it look messier.

The spilling the wine glass is such a perfect small detail. Because he wants to come across haphazard and free drinking mid plan, but by spilling it he stays stone cold sober and if anything comes a cross more carefree. It's also beautifully mirrored by bruce pouring his wine over the balcony. That and the thumb on the firingpin when joker visits Harvey are next level detail and character building.
I read somewhere that Rachel’s actress hadn’t seen Heath Ledger in makeup yet. So the first time seeing him in makeup was the party scene and her reaction to him was actually actually legit fright
Michael Cain was also supposed to have dialogue when he first sees the joker, but he was so shocked by his appearance that he forgot to say his dialogue.
@PaulyGTv The dude said "never try to understand the joker" which is directly linked to his backstory because in order to understand the joker you must understand his backstory but he doesn't have a backstory which makes me mysterious. You're getting way too salty over this bro hahaha.

RE: his mannerisms and scars. For the mannerisms, simply put, he's sucking on the scar tissue inside his mouth. As to how he got the scars, his line from The Killing Joke graphic novel explains it best: "...If I'm gonna have a past, I prefer it be multiple choice."
In the Killing Joke he says "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another. If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be a multiple choice." I always thought him having different stories about his past in the movie is a reference to that.

And I'm adding to this as well. When he tells the story to the mobster about his father, some behavior analyst believes this is the true story because of some subtle expressions he makes. They said that he does this little reactions like he's reliving past trauma while telling the story.
This issue with Batman, is that he identifies himself as Batman, far more than Bruce Wayne. It’s implied Bruce died the night of his parent’s murder and Batman was born.
In the Batman Beyond series they kind of covered this aspect of Bruce. While dealing with some villain who was trying to drive Bruce Wayne insane and convince him to commit murder by influencing him telepathically, Terry asked Batman how he knew he wasn't going insane and Bruce simply responded with "because the voice in my head called me Bruce"... pretty much confirming that Bruce Wayne does not really identify himself as being 'Bruce" and sees himself as Batman all the time, even in retirement.

I rarely write comments on RUclips, but this time couldn't pass. Found this channel only because of your Batman Begins video, but couldn't stop there and started watching your Let's Plays. Usually I hate gaming videos, because most of the time, people making them just talk over it with some nonsense, that becomes white noise for me. That talk about the Joker having a little good left in him was so adorable and heartfelt....but I was still over here saying, "Oh, Tofu. This really is your first time dealing with this irredeemable character." Bless her heart though. Tofu is a sweetheart.
D Day Technically no one is irredeemable. Everyone has the capacity for redemption it’s just that they choose not to be redeemed. The question isn’t “is everyone redeemable” because they answer is simple, they are. The real question is “will everyone choose redemption?”
@@appledough3843 I hear you. But that would still make them irredeemable by choice. If they choose to fight redemption, the good in themselves, and refuse to change, they are a lost cause. Therefore - irredeemable.

Nope, she didn't "turn down" anything, she was already scheduled to be a co-star in a movie with Diane Keaton which was written and directed not just by a woman but by the academy award winning writer of Thelma & Louise. At the time for her it made much more sense to be a co-star in that movie at the risk of skipping The Dark Knight where she was going to be a minor character in a film directed by a director who hadn't won anything. Many movies that seemed to be good choices for actors turned down to be awful but at the time she made the right choice for herself. Not to mention that The Dark Knight didn't do anything for Maggie Gyllenhaal's career, same as Aaron Eckhart's. On top of that, Batman Begins was not even a success at the box office.
@@FuzzyDlop You're absolutely right , but seeing it in an historic perspective it's a sad choice of carrer. I've seen this movie so many times since it was released, and have taken it for granted, that it's honestly a joy to watch someone react to it for the first time. It's a reminder as to why this movie is so good.
Tragically it was out of her hands. The reason she didn't reprise her role was completely due to her husband at the time, Tom Cruise. He felt so uncomfortable watching Rachel's love scenes with Bruce that he disallowed Katie from being in TDK. The film's monumental cultural success makes this an even tougher pill to swallow not just for Katie for all the fans as well.

That's not correct though. Batman is as much the alter ego of Bruce as much as Bruce is the alter ego of Batman. Neither is the true person because both are. The movies show this perfectly because the character operates in 3 different ways and one is his true self. 1 is Batman, outside to the criminals where Bruce is a different person who he has to think of in his actions. 2 is Bruce, outside to the public where Batman is a different person who he has to think of in his actions. The 3rd is Bruce in the Batcave, who only he and Alfred and Lucious knows. This character thinks of both Bruce and Batman in his actions and is the real Bruce Wayne and Batman.
Akio Furukawa the last part of your reply is the real truth. But the real Bruce is closer to batman than the Bruce the public sees. You’re right in saying the TRUE Bruce is the one that talks to Alfred in the cave though
Joker was right in this movie, weirdly enough. He made Batman break his one rule. Batman killed someone and made the white knight into a villain. Joker won in the end.
It's Not Gay If It's Jesus disagree. His goal was to break Gotham’s spirit. Batman prevented that. Yes joker broke Batman but it he was willing to let that happen in order to save Gotham’s hope.
@@Jjbarrea124 But Joker broke Gotham's hope a.k.a Harvey. Just because nobody knows about it, does not mean he did not win. Batman kill. Harvey turned into a villain. And Batman had to lie and act like a murderous criminal to hide the truth. Every thing that Joker said was true, including the fact that most people turned against Batman and wanted him to turn himself in. The only thing that Joker was wrong was not his fault, but the fault of the one who wrote that one scene.
It's Not Gay If It's Jesus that’s exactly what it means. People still believed in Harvey at the end which means they still had hope. I would say joker lost as a whole but breaking Batman was a nice consolation prize.
@@Jjbarrea124 They had fake hope. Hope in a lie. Joker was still right and still won. Joker was still smart enough to know that Batman would do something. Really enjoyed this and the previous reaction video. Sorry to hear that people got ugly about your first one. What I liked about that one was how we could see the wheels spinning in your head -- spotting plot holes and things that look like plot holes, but actually aren't. It's also interesting to see the reaction of someone who isn't familiar with a lot of the lore being exposed to it for pretty much the first time. Someone who hears the name "Harvey Dent", and has to figure out from scratch if he's a good guy or bad. (In the lore, Joker is generally regarded as irredeemable, but Batman always holds out hope that Two-Face's mental illness might someday be cured. So Batman treats these two villains quite differently when he interacts with them.) Oh, btw, I never noticed the hand sanitizer till you mentioned it!

@@8aba_Yaga I don't think so, to avoid copyright strikes you have to be careful with the screen time, like how much of a series or movie you actually show. Usually it's like 10-20 min.

Also the How To Train Your Dragon franchise is AMAZING and I'm sure you'll love it!
This movie is so intense and depressing without a final release, I can understand why people like the first one more. I ain't one them though.
I can never decide which of the two I like most. TDK hast this amazing version of the Joker ... BB is just as good without that ... so ... I don't know. Heath Ledger really made this movie.
heath ledgers joker is STILL one of the most iconic roles of all time!! legendary
@X not even close tbh..
@@char4980
They're different versions of the character. Eveyone can have their own preference but they both do the best job in their own way. And they were friends, I think Ledger would be proud of Phœnix's interpretation...
@@madamepersonne7728
Ofc Joaquin did an incredible job, he gave this role his best and it worked. but Heath is the all time greatest in my opinion, he's too good for me to put anything above. Literally can’t even tell it was Heath Ledger behind that character.
Just for the record "Joker" and "The Joker" are different characters under the same moniker. Both are pretty much unique to each other and comparing them against one another is like comparing Coffee to Toffee because they rhyme, lol.
@X go away
Good lord.... Ledger's performance in this film is epic. He really did deserve to win the Academy Award the year this movie came out.
"finished this film feeling kinda depressed" Well, this is the middle of a trilogy
Batman: *cleaning up Gotham and making it a good city to inhabit*
Joker: *introduces a lil anarchy*
Batman: ahhhh shiiiiit
The scars are called “a Glasgow smile”, and he keeps on licking his lips because he had to keep the them from falling off his face. It originated in Glasgow which is why it’s called that
I think it's impressive you were able to upload this to YT. Most people would just make it patreon exclusive. Despite what some people may say, I think your reactions are really entertaining! I've watched this like 20x and I always have a good laugh. I'm also happy you're doing GoT aswell as avatar, you're easily my favourite reactor. Stay safe 💖
If the Joker was real, you would 100% be his Harley Quinn.
that’s the worse thing that could ever happen to her
@@AqwDragulum agreed
That's not good
Cringe..
There are other ways to let her know she's bangin'.
This time around, I love how positive the comments on this are. Almost nothing rude, maybe people are finally learning
One thing you don’t realize is that Batman isn’t the alter ego, Bruce Wayne is. You want to see who Bruce truly is inside? It’s Batman
Exactly, Bruce Wayne is just a shell and Batman is the soul.
The Joker has completely destroyed his past life and name. There is no name. Only the joker.
"i feel like someone's gonna die"
*Immediately they start dying"
Why do you think Joker told Batman the truth about Harvey? If he wanted everyone to know he wouldn't tell Batman and let Harvey kill Gordon's family. Either that or The Dark Knight is very poorly written.
“There’s still some good in the joker”
Joker: Am I a joke to you???
“I really want to see the Joker return in Dark Knight Rises”
oh my sweet lil baby, how can I say this...
As everyone else has said it before you my friend saying those painful words and then holding your heart afterwards hoping that it doesn't flee with the words
So Batman treats these two villains quite differently when he interacts with them.)
Oh, btw, I never noticed the hand sanitizer till you mentioned it!
Talking about the joker “I kinda wish the entire movie was about him”
Todd Phillips Joker: Allow me to introduce myself!
Its not the same Joker tho
The new joker is boring compared to this one
@@liltree8382its still a good quality joker though.
@@liltree8382 i wouldn't call it boring its 2 different interpretations of the joker one is already a chaotic maniac in a action crime film the other one is a slow burn character study i think both jokers are great for their own reasons
@@gxldboyj6523 Exactly. That's why I don't really like it when people compare the two.
now watch Film Theory: Joker is the hero of gotham
you stress eating at gordans death is a mood
That last little monologue that Gordon has about why they have to chase Batman always gives me chills.
