I'm a Gen X'r and I came across your video and I love that the younger generation can appreciate the older music. Howard Hewitt was a great, great singer and Shalamar was that group. Respect young brotha!
The guy with the afro is Jeffrey Daniels. He taught MJ themoonwalk. The lady in the middle went solo in 1987 and released a multi platinum debut album and one Best New Artist at The Grammys. Her name is Jody Watley. The lead singer Howard Hewitt is a BEAST. Check out A Night To Remember by Shalamar.
For the RECORD Jeffery Daniels got the Moonwalk from the kids that would put down cardboard, break dance and Moonwalk, for money on/around 42 St. in NYC back in the early 80's. They would even perform on the train or train stations making money. Jeffery says it's the "Street" however the street was a group of teens from Brooklyn going to the city to make money.
Howard Hewett just had a voice that was unmatched. He made all of the women melt when he sang. He has been my absolute favorite male vocalist since the first time I heard him sing. And he was FINE as heck too. I was too young but I would have married that man if I could have. 😆😆 Awesome reaction video. I think I'll show this to Howard!
This came out in 1980, but there is an updated version of this song that they did with L.L. Cool J and Babyface....Its 🔥. Its a shame that they could not get along because this trio was all that and more. But they all did well on their own. Jody Watley came out with several successful albums, and Howard Hewett is legendary with his beautiful voice. Check out "Im For Real" , "Say Amen" and "Show Me". Shalamar has so many hits, you should check out "Somewhere There's A Love Just For Me" , "Make That Move", A Night To Remember" and "Second Time Around".
This is a perfect song to listen to on a Sunday. I love everything about this group. Couldn't ask for a better combo with their harmonies and the band playing like the rent is due. 😄 Thank you for another great reaction!
Howard Hewett on the left is the lead, & was on another level, Jody Watley is where Arnold Schwarzenegger got ‘Hasts la vista baby’ from, on her solo hit, Lookin for a New Love. On the right, Jeffrey Daniel was an extraordinary dancer & choreographer, who is one of the originators of the ‘backslide’, which Michael Jackson got permission to call the ‘Moonwalk’. He also choreographed MJ’s video for Smooth Criminal.
Individualy dope but when they are all together as Shalamar, FIRE!!!! "Night to Remember" is the one to instantly put you in the mood to kick it and hang with your main team!
Shalamar = Real music. This is very early 80s. I was in Japan then, bought this album at the exchange for $5.95. Jody got her start as a Soul Train Dancer. She also has had a fire 🔥 solo career. Check out Don't You Want Me? by Jody Watley.
So excited when I saw your Shalamar reaction pop up, one of my all time favorite groups! Please react to A Night To Remember, Second Time Around, Make That Move, and Somewhere There’s A Love - all classic bops! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@Jack Reacts, "Well THANK YOU! my brotha, I'm so elephant elated & hippotamusly happy that you chose this song cuz it's one of those old-skool gem goodies from back in the day. When you get the chance, check out the other former member, Jody Watley, she had quite the solo run from the late 80's til the mid-90's. And definitely check out the group's other songs, you will love them & Howard Hewett is the truth🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿, check out his songs as a solo artist as well. THANKS! AGAIN, BE BLESSED."🙋🏿🙋🏿🙋🏿🙋🏿🙋🏿
Ok If you love Shalamar you should definitely react to Switch “There’ll Never Be” and “I Call Your Name” as well as Debarge “I like it” and “A Dream”. There were two Debarge siblings in Switch which inspired their other 5 or 6 siblings to form the band Debarge. Debarge wrote their own music, alot of which has been sampled by several R&B and hip-hop artists over the years.
'Take That To The Bank'..the first hit song that started it all before H. Hewitt joined group..smooth catchy clever cut..and great dance moves...SOLAR Records was on fire them days..take care
Check out (lovers lane) by teena Marie feat Howard Hewett or( a rose by another name )by teena Marie feat Gerald levert or (Do you wanna play) by Rick James feat Howard Hewett & Johnny gill
Shalamar had two key hallmarks....both of whom are criminally underrated in their respective fields...prolific producer/bassist Leon F Sylvers III, and vocalist Howard Hewett, who's solo albums were plagued by a lot of substandard material, however when he hits the mark......WOW! Check out any songs featuring either (or both) and you're in for a real treat.
The lead singer, Howard Hewitt has some great songs on his own. So does the girl, Jody Watley. Jody Watley n Jeffery Daniels started as being dancers on Soul Train. I think the first song was made by studio singers. But they found those three to be a group, to perform the new songs. They were awesome in concert
Shalamar’s music help to paint the background scenes of my teens. One of favorite groups of all time!! Check out “A Night To Remember” “The Second Time Around” & “Somewhere There’s a Love.” Some of the old time favorites!
Jack I appreciate your channel brother paying homage to the old school R&B. Keeping with that if you haven’t already, you gotta play my boy Peabo Bryson “ Feel the Fire”. I promise you won’t be disappointed. One of the original true R&B Legends. Keep doing your thing young man🙏🏾
He sang the absolute hell out of this song!
Still my favorite I'm 61💕💕💕💕

They got classics. Jeffery Danials taught Michael Jackson how to moon walk.

Can't beat it!
“The Second Time Around” my fav by Shalamar

The lead singer Howard Hewitt and the girl Jodie Watley both had very successful solo careers. You should check them out.
Its actually Jody
Check out Jodie's Friends with Rakim. One of the first rapper/singer collaborations.
Jeffrey Daniels, the guy with the large Afro, was Michael Jackson's choreographer and taught him the moon walk and pop locking
Finally!! One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands!
Another favorite I am glad you discovered. No matter what genre the late 70s an the 80s had the best music. That is why so much of it is sampled
🎯
Got to give it up to Shalamar for delivering a beautiful song. Big ups to whomever wrote this song! The lyrics are amazing.

I love that you did Shalamar!!!!!
Jodie Watley and Jeffrey Daniels were originally dancers on Soul Train.
Jeffrey Daniels was also married to your girl Stephanie Mills from 80 to 83.
And Jeffrey taught MJ his signature moon walk. Jody has an impressive catalog worth checking out and was quite influential in the late 80s early 90s.
Yep Jody and Jeffery were regular dancers on Soul Train. I remember viewing both dancing on Soul Train in 1978
Stacy Lattisaw, love on a two way street - she wasn't even a teenager when she recorded her first album

Their, 'Make that Move' was fun back in the day! ☺
Janet's early look was patterned after Jody Watley. The leather waist jacket, skirt and shoes boots.
