I really needed this, a friend of mine told me that when I get into high school, I’m gonna have to go much lower than what I’m comfortable with (middle school music for Bassoon focuses on the higher octave notes for some reason) and my lowest comfortable note was low E and my band director couldn’t help me with my problem because he plays Trumpet Trombone and Flute.
Hi, I'm a high school bassoonist and I play on a Size 2 Fox bocal, which gets most notes in tune except for the low notes (D and Db especially), which come out so flat that I can barely adjust enough to get them in tune. Can you help me with that?
+megaman02468 Hi there, Could you tell me a little bit more- what brand of bassoon? Has it been adjusted or to the repair shop? Style of reeds you are using? There are a lot of elements that can factor into intonation on bassoon.
+Eryn Oft I play a Fox Renard Artist model, my school bought it a few years ago. I buy my reeds, and it doesn't say on the website, but I think they are medium-hard. That's about all I know. Sorry I can't give much more information.
I wish I could help you more but without more knowledge about the reeds (which brand, the overall length) and hearing you play I am a bit stuck. Let me know if you would like a Skype Lesson. By seeing and hearing what is happening I may be able to help. Wishing you the best of luck!
For sure. I have a blog about good quality oboes and oboe reeds, too. erynoft.com/2016/09/11/finding-an-affordable-oboe/ Scroll all the way to the bottom and I have included Erica Howard's email contact for reeds.
Do you have a video on high register production (e.g., the E in the Ravel Piano Concerto)?
No, not yet. Great suggestion. I will add it to the list of upcoming videos! Thank you for asking.

Hello I play bassoon, if you don't mind would you mind telling me if you know a place I can get high quality good tone oboe reeds?
As a bassoonist you are looking for oboe reeds? Just checking before I advise. I would hate to send you to the wrong place. :)
No, I play bassoon primarily but occasionally play oboe and i didnt know if you knew where to find high quality good tone oboes.
