That’s right… I’m back! Apologies for the massive delay since my last video but hopefully it was worth the wait!
So, what do you think of the RGB30? Lemme know here in the comments and don’t forget to subscribe! ❤
Ah yes... 210 grams... what's that in bullets or packets of jerky?
Great video, Matt! Even better than I expected :)
Thanks Russ! I always appreciate your support and inspiration!
Unbelievable visual quality here. The shots and lighting are absolutely amazing.
Thanks! I really appreciate the support!! Glad you checked out the video!
Normally I usually consume RUclips as a pop-up to continue working, but this quality of videos makes me pause everything and enjoy it in full screen. 😎
Wow thanks for the kind words! Is cool to see people enjoying the videos!
I always felt that level of attention dividing to be somewhat insulting and damaging to one's ability to focus on the material adequately. Like people who watch TV shows as "background noise". You're not actually watching it, it's just playing. I think it's kind of insulting that you're framing a compliment out of simply giving the content creator your undivided attention for their 13 minute video. But I guess that's the younger generation for ya.
@@hucz I use RUclips most of the day. If I see them in full screen instead of working I would be fired 😂 I choose which videos to watch on full screen and what videos to listen to 😌
@@junsss It's not a matter of how you personally are wanting to consume content. But I think it makes you sound pompous when you frame a compliment around the idea that you simply watched the video. Oh wow, you watched a video instead of it being background noise. What a nice compliment? C'mon.
@@hucz who responds after a month lmao dude I watch the videos how I want, get a life lol
“This handheld is a game changer that will change the industry” then goes on to complain about all the stuff wrong with it immediately after. Lmao
Thanks for watching!
@@matt_HM was just a bit ironic, not meaning to be negative though. The production quality is top notch and you’ve definitely earned a subscriber. Looking forward to more videos
Always appreciate the feedback. I guess trend setter will probably end up being a more accurate description than game changer! I think we will see more 1:1 screen devices soon!
MATT HM BACK WITH THE CINEMATIC VIDEOS! Good to see you back!
Doing my best! Thanks dude!
man the video is really like one of those high production studio produce, its beautiful
Thanks for the kind words!! I’m glad you enjoyed it and hope you might check out some of my other vids!
Great to see you Matt! Thanks for the vid!
Glad to be back! Thanks for checking it out!
What I like best about your channel is the large number of games you showcase. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Yeah, I try not to show the same games over and over but sometimes it's tough lol
I switched out the dpad (and membrane) for one from an RG353M and now it is perfect. No tape mod required.
Ooo good tip!
I think the only reason you don't have over 100.000 subs yet is that you only release videos every few months. The quality put into those reviews blows every other channel out of the water.
Yeah I'm hoping to increase my output... already a slow start this year lol. 100k sounds crazy tho!
I love this video thanks Matt.
Incredible work, Matt!! Can't get over how good your footage is. - Stubbs
Thanks Stubbs! You’ve been a huge help!!
Awesome video, love your style!
welcome back! this little device looks awesome!
Thanks dude!
I just found your channel and played and liked each of your videos and took each one in as an experience. Just wow!
Thanks! Glad you liked em!
Tremendous quality on this video. Well done dude. I have an analogue pocket and you have me convinced on this too 😂
Love the Pocket! Thanks for the kind words and for checking out the video!
He is back. Amazing work! 👏🏽
Thanks! Feels good to release another video!
Glad you're back 😄👍🏻
Me too! lol. Thanks for checking it out!
@@matt_HM Always a pleasure 😉🫡
Man your videos are the real game changer. You never fail to amaze me with the phenomenal quality! Thank you for bringing us this banger of a video.
Thank you for watching it! Your feedback makes the entire process worth it!
Hey Matt, It was great to see you on the podcast tonight. This editing 👌
This may be heresy to some, but I ended up scaling most 4:3 systems to 8:7 and in some cases setting to integer scaling with overscale and completely filling up the RGB30 screen with that crisp integer scaling. Love it!
I tried this a bit too. It works well with some games and not so well with others. For me it all depends on how much information gets cropped from the overscale!
I forgot how amazing your shots are.
Thanks man! It’s been a while!
Perfect video editing!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out!
Killer visuals and a breath of fresh air in this crowded review space. Keep it up
Thanks!!!
I'll wait for the next model of this thing
The only problem with the RGB30 is that you have to buy two of them once you realize how good it is. No RBG30 downtime is acceptable. Beautfil presentaton. I can really tell you took your time making this one. Keep this style and watch your sub count grow!
Yeah, same here blown away by the vibe you create, it's so inspiring and reminds me of another creator GxAce but in the best way possible, retro handheld of course. Would love to see more of it!
Hes amazing and i would be an absolute liar if i didnt say that ive drawn a ton of inspiration from him.
Wow, your editing and lighting is among the best I've seen.
The content was also great, looking forward to more!
Thank you! Working on some more videos!
I'm here for this intro. LFG. Great job Matt.
Thanks dude! Glad you liked it!
wow love the esthetics and the content. keep it up
More to come!
Whilst I agree that this device brought a lot of attention to the concept tall/square screen handhelds, the real unsung hero IMO is the LG Wing Handheld by mighty Lao Zhang, which predates RGB30 by about an year.
Oh and welcome back! Joy to watch your work.
Ooo i totally forgot about that thing! Never even got to see one in person lol. Good point tho, thanks for the info!
This is soooooo good, the cinematic, your thoughts on the device, can’t wait for you to do this full time so we can get more Matt energy in the world.
The video editing done here is more than what this handheld deserves 😂
Glad you liked the video! 😆
@@matt_HM definitely a great review man 👍👍
I got one and love it but i also would love to see one with a 4.5 inch screen someday
The visual quality of this device is actually awesome. Great video.
As i only play original handheld games on cartridge this is not for me. But I absolutely see the apeal of this for many people👍
I also love playing my games on the original cartridges! It is definitely my preferred way to play! Thanks for checking out the video!
Ladies and gents, we are so back.
Feels good being back!
I agree with everything you mentioned. I have a PS Vita, Steamdeck, etc and constantly come back to this device. The screen size is awesome.
Well put together. I love my RGB30. One thing you can do is stretch the resolution a bit to get rid of the black space. Doesn't have to be full stretch, but even a little makes a difference. LIke PSP for example.
Thanks!! I think stretching some games does make sense and can improve the experience!
Game changing handheld for a game changing RUclips video quality!
We're changing everything! 🍕
HELL YEAH! HE'S BACK!!
Can I make more than 6 videos in 2024?? We're gonna find out haha!
Brother you’ve inspired me to take my videography to the next level. This is mind meltingly good. Keep up the hard work! And I’m waiting on Anbernic’s RG Cube handheld. I’m a bigger fan of android because of Daijisho as my front-end.
Thanks dude!
One of the best videos possibly ever uploaded to youtube.
One of the best comments ever written!
Yeah I'll not be original by saying - those B rolls - Man great visuals - with great progression - no sudden - low focus high dopamine hitting fast changes -
Very smooth and enjoyable to watch.
+1
It is a goal of mine to not fall into the Mr. Beast style of editing and flow that is so pervasive on youtube. My hope is that the quality of whats on screen is enough to captivate. Time will tell if this is a smart strategy. But i am very glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!!
@@matt_HM By doing what You said - Slower growth but more mature audience - more stable and faithful.
GL Matt
He said 4 inches was MASSIVE, there's hope boys!!
🤣
How do your videos get more beautiful every time?? A joy to watch as always
Because of support from viewers like you.
Glad to see you back! Great video as always. This is a device that I was really interested in, but I don't really have the disposable income right now to make the purchase. Hopefully by the time Anbernic's version comes out things will be better, because Anbernic's quality is a bigger selling point when compared to Powkiddy's to me.
Thanks!! Yeah i think the best we can hope for is that other companies see the consumer demand for handhelds like this and find ways to improve upon it!
Aside from the RG Cube from Anbernic, there's also the A1 Unicorn from ZPG which was teased first earlier this year. And now we have news of the R40S, a true RGB30 clone starting to show up in Aliexpress.
I think after the success of the RGB30 this was inevitable!
Amazing video! What was the name of the new Anbernic device that you teased at the end?
Thanks more making it to the end haha! It’s the RG Cube! I believe it might be releasing soon too!
Slick gxace action!
He’s the master! I’m just learning along the way and he is a massive inspiration.
JELOS was succeeded by ROCKNIX and is worked on by mostly the same people. It's not too big of a deal that JELOS halted development.
GBA has a ton of great games. One of my favorite consoles/handhelds. There are the big NES/SNES ports like Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Donkey Kong Country. Mega Man Battle Network is really good. Mega Man Zero is like an improved Mega Man X. There were ports of the lower-numbered Final Fantasy games, I think 1 through 6 (3 might only be on DS, not sure). Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, which is not exactly a port of FFT from PS1 as far as the story, but has the same game mechanics. The Sonic Advance games are decent. Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen and Emerald (some still say Emerald is the best Pokemon game). The Fire Emblem games are really good. Kirby & the Amazing Mirror is one of the best Kirby games, with a metroidvania format. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is in my top 5 favorite Zelda games, there's the Mother/Earthbound series (fan translation available for Mother 3 which never came out in the US). Mr. Driller is a little bit of a hidden gem, though I'm seeing it shown off by more RUclipsrs lately. Screw Breaker AKA Drill Dozer is a neat little game that used rumble in the cartridge. Sword of Mana, Lunar Legend, and Tales of Phantasia are good if you like JRPGs. Panel de Pon on GBA has become one of my favorite puzzle games, it was packaged on a 2 game cart along with Dr. Mario. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team is really fun if you like roguelites/dungeon crawlers. I've also heard the Golden Sun games are good, Starfy is supposed to be similar to Kirby, Advance Wars is a bit like Fire Emblem. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga is one a lot of people like. Metroid Zero Mission and Fusion.
I was very tempted by the RGB30 when it came out and I saw it had a 1:1 screen, purely because I don't own anything with a 1:1 screen and it's just so unusual. It's got the same chip as my Anbernic RG353M, though, which made it a little hard to justify. Bigger screen, but not a touchscreen, the shell is plastic instead of metal. Maybe I'll pick one up later down the line. The lack of touchscreen seems like a real shame with how good the stacked DS screens look on there. If they ever refresh it with a Plus version or something, I hope they give it a touchscreen. I don't know if the unusual screen size/ratio makes that harder or if they could've just slapped a digitizer on there for a few bucks more.
Really cool camera work and effects, by the way. Felt very high quality.
Absolute Cinema 😌
Thanks for watching!!
Best review I’ve seen so far well done 👍🏻 I still prefer my MM v4 over the RGB 30 ☺️ I find the software of the rgb 30 confusing as well
the color grading on this video is truly a masterpiece
Thanks!! It's probably my favorite part of the process!
Gorgeous vdo. ❤
Tyty! Glad you liked it!
Masterpiece!
Thanks! I'm trying my best!
I love the screen on the RGB30. I don't love living in fear of the battery inside.
Yeah pros and cons lol. Thanks for watching!
Hi Matt. Your video was incredible and I loved the production value and the information of the RGB30. I wanted to recommend some GBA games since I have quite a few. I definitely recommend any of the Super Mario Bros Advance games. I also recommend games like Metal Slug Advance, Iridion 2, Gunstar Super Heroes, Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland, Konami Krazy Racers, Double Dragon Advance, Final Fight One, Gradius Galaxies, Megaman & Bass and Contra Advance. Sorry for the long list but there are so many great GBA games out there. I really want the RGB30 because I enjoy retro console & arcade games.
Dude thanks for watching the video and the awesome suggestions! There's a lot in your list that I've never tried before, which is exciting!
Jelos was forked to Rocknix and there is a team supporting it
I have to install it and give it a try!
@@matt_HM if you do, let me know what you think (if you have time lol) I'm waiting on my rgb30 in the mail rn
Awesome video, bro. You should really try Russ's (Retro Game Corps) suggestion on SNES for this device, using IS overscale just crops a couple pixels on each side (Barely noticeable) and it gives you almost full screen, on this device is amazing, crisp pixels, bright colors and an amazing experience overall. Playing SNES is what I use this device the most, that and Pico-8 which is also perfect.
Great production on your video, bruh. Both the shots and the audio are top notch. You have a new sub here. 👌
Thanks man! Yeah SNES is awesome in that 8:7 aspect ratio!
Honestly, if screens wow you so much, just buy a Trimui Smart Pro. It's selling for $55 these days, can also run up to Dreamcast/PSP, and its 5" ultra bright/saturated display blows anything out of the water. All while having weirdly high build quality
It's on my list! With that aspect ratio it won't be as godd for Pico 8 and some other games but will definitely be great for PSP games!
This is so refreshing next to all the greasy dudes making low-production videos on these handhelds. Well done!
Doing my best to stay clean!
Man, you should be the branding director of Powerkiddy. It's almost like a super branding film, rather than a user experencing video.
Haha thanks! I wonder if they will even see this video!
My best advice is to wait. They are getting so much praise for this one handheld. They are bound to make another with the same screen but better.
That would be awesome! The Anbernic RG Cube is looking very promising!
Agree with your points. I tried 'upgrading' one rgb30 to arkos, but the install/upgrade seems to have bricked the device. Had to buy another as I love the screen, will stick with Jelos. $65 from aliexpress. Wish it was a bit more comfortable because my large hands. Also had to tape d-pad connections, needed for tetris dx, my favorite. Subscribed too
Thanks!! Yeah thats a bummer :(
I love the size of the screen, but I will say that the 720P resolution is kind of wasted on this. You can’t really upscale any Dreamcast, N64 or psp to 720p on it. I would love for this thing to have just a little bit more power and have a touchscreen.
Great points! I hope we see more iterations on this idea by other companies!
For me, the RGB30 is a love/hate relationship. I love the screen, it's amazing, and love the square ratio 720p screen, makes integer scaling so much better for pretty much all emulated consoles.
BUT... like you said, it has a cheap feeling, and also bad ergonomics, at least for my hands, it feel awkward holding it after a while. But the things I HATE : The buttons....they are way too hard to press and uncomfortable, they have a ''hard edge'' especially the d-pad, it kinda hurts my thumb after a while, and its frustrating to press. For this reason, it usually sits on my desk and I don't pick it up... Instead I pick up my Miyoo Mini Plus, or my Ayn Odin 2 (which is perfect, but not as portable)
Yeah there are definitely flaws! Here’s to hoping that someone decides to make an improved iteration or similar console! (RG Cube??)
The screen really is good, to the point where I wondered if it were OLED. Even after I got a Steamdeck OLED I wondered because it has very vibrant colors and deep blacks. A great little system for the price with some caveats about the build quality being a little questionable in some areas. Also I suggest a slightly taller aspect ratio on PSP games they can look like the GBA size without looking too stretched.
Yeah the screen is way better than the price point suggests! Thanks for watching!
its got the same range as my R36S so im not too much into changing but sure, if had nowhere to play this would be great
Thanks for watching!!
I have a problem setting GB and GBC emulators in full screen, it seems only I can get is like what shown on minute 8:03 with a lot of surrounding black space...
No issues with ArkOS here. Flawless for me.
I wish I had that experience! I kept having an issue where it would freeze and when I restarted it, it was just a black screen. To fix it I had to put in the JelOS sd card, turn on, turn off and then put the ArkOS card back in. Super weird!
@@matt_HM Did you install the base OS from a year or two ago and then update to the latest?
Nice video. What are your favorite Pico-8 games?
This is probably a generic answer but Poom is just downright impressive! I really need to do a deep dive into Pico 8 games and find some hidden gems. If you have recommendations let me know!!
You may want to highlight downsides more, the other reviewers say that the screen is great but the controller feels really cheap.
35xx sp is coming soon, hope you review it! I'll probably get that one
I also mention the cheap feeling and compare it to the superior feeling RP2S! Unless you’re saying I should have focused on other downsides as well. Thanks for the feedback!
Oh, watched again, u're right. YT shorts is rotting away my attention span 🙈
Adding video sections would probably help my monkey brain
GBA must plays:
Zelda Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Advance Wars, The Fire Emblem games.
Besides Advance Wars.. believe it or not, I have never tried any of those! Excited to check them out!
I'd be interested in what you think about the Anbernic Cube and how it compares to the RGB30.
Im hoping to review that one too!
What is the best handheld for fighting games?
Gus-ODool 9000
Why's this review so cinematically shot. 😭😭😭
Still an amazing review tho.
Are you not a fan of the shots? 🥲
Great video !
Do you work as a pro videographer aside of youtube ?
About GBA games i would advise :
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, a great rpg with top pixelart ( the 1 and 2 HP are also good if you like the movies ) . Vrally 3 : the best looking rally GBA games, very fun to play . Street fighter Alpha 3, Tony hawks, Astro boy, advance war .
Hey thanks!! Nah I just do youtube as a hobby, learning as I go. Dude thanks for the suggestions! I haven’t tried any of the HP games on GBA so I’ll have to check em out! Same with VRally!
Nobody ever talks about the horrendous batrery and its inability to hold a charge. Thats the only thing keeping me from getting one these.
I was ready to purchase and then anded up going with an rg35xx plus instead.
How is the anbernic treating you? I am in the same boat as you were and considering the rg35xx-h
@@yaboirairai Anbernic is the best budget handheld by a landslide imo. I honestly use the RG35XX H more than my Analogue Pocket since I mostly care about older games (NES, SNES, and all the Gameboy stuff) and I'm not all that worried about having to replace it if it ever gets broken.
The RG35XX SP releases tomorrow and I plan on grabbing one of those as well since it's the exact same thing, just in a clamshell form.
I do hate how finicky it is to charge. These companies need to invest in better tech so i can use basic usb-c to usb-c charging cables!
Fantastic quality video, great details, but I have to hard disagree on the sentiment that it is "really hard to recommend anything else in this price range". The RGB30 is normally $109.99-$129.99 depending on included SD cards ($79.99-$99.99 on sale). The Retroid Pocket 2S easily competes at that price point. The upgraded model with 4GB memory and 128GB internal storage is $99 FULL RETAIL. The standard model with 3GB memory and 64GB internal storage is $89. It's not only comparable, but better in a variety of significant ways. For the same price, you get a more capable Android device with a touch screen, hall sticks, quadruple the RAM, massive internal storage, and a better shoulder button layout with proper analog triggers (not to mention wider support for system emulation that goes into PS2 and gamecube!). Yes, the screen is smaller and lower resolution, but that's one of if not the only downside to the RP2S.
Yep, I totally see your point. I do really like the RP2S, which I pointed out in the video, but didn't go into too much detail about. I agree that choice of wording probably wasn't great. I would totally recommend the RP2S, but I probably wouldn't recommend it over the RGB30. That's just my personal preference. I'll spend more time with the RP2S and maybe eventually give it its own review.
GXAce: Hmmm how ironic.
To be compared to him is an honor. He’s the best and obviously a huge inspiration!
OThe high quality video is even to high for the poor build quality - give us a metal shell
Now this is a great idea!!
R40S just released
Nice video :) What's that game at :35 ?
That's Final Fantasy VII for the Sony Playstation! I was just flying around in the airship lol.
Feels like the only game changer has been the Odin 2, and the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. But that wouldnt make for interesting titles.
I want to do an Odin 2 video pretty soon! You're right, that thing is an absolute beast!
Only issue with these is you might as well get a used steam deck imo
Can it do SEGA Saturn Shmups?
I believe so. If you noticed, I didn't include any Saturn footage in the video because I was having issues with my roms. So I don't have much experience with the Saturn on the RGB30 yet.
I don't understand why the company doesn't print some information in the back. How expensive could it be, it would make it seem like a more quality device. It's COMPLETELY blank in the back. Why!?
What's the handheld all the way to the right at 0:23
That's the Anbernic RG35XX modded with Playstation themed face buttons! I have a review on my channel!
@@matt_HM oh nice, thank you!
@@matt_HM Oh nice, thank you! I'll check it out.
Chris is the best!
But... Why getting three?
I wanted to have multiple color options for the video! I'll probably give some away to friends or family :)
3-4" tall? How about 3½"?
Yeah, it looks like Powkiddy lists it at ~3.36inches!
R40s is a clone of this you were right
Im sure more will come!
What sort of hand grooming do you do before your videos? I find my hands look way too dry, and lack any sort of humanity or cohesion.
Always wash those hands!
Df not a game changer . Had 3 of them and the analog stick is so poor and the comfort holding it is horiible and the buttons are hard and stiff . Try play it for more than 20 min
Thanks for watching!
First.
And best.
LOL nah, too small, gaming on a stamp
The Steam Deck, that was a game changer. Anything else is clickbait.
The Steam Deck is way too bulky to qualifiy as a practical handheld. Its specs may be nice, but they're pointless if it's more of a home console than one that people can just pocket when they need to.
Stay tuned for my Steam Deck review 😉
@@SurfNinjas My Steam Deck goes everywhere with me, ever heard of a backpack?
This device is not good at all! The sleep functionality sucks. It’s impossible to find a charger that works when you need it. And overall, it’s just a really bad device, but for some reason RUclipsrs keep lying saying this thing is good.
Thanks for watching!!
There is absolutely nothing unique about this, it is quite literally a mix between Anbernic's RG350 and Retroid Pocket 2 form factor. Software wise, it runs yet another handheld linux distro and not even a good one. I genuinely don't understand what you're even talking about at the beginning of the video. It is quite literally a rip off of horizontal handhelds that came before it in both form factor and software. On top of that it's $80 when it is worth $50 at the most. This is just a well shot but overly sensationalized video.
Thanks for the feedback! I try to emphasize that the 4 inch square screen is the primary attribute that separates it from the other horizontal handhelds. I even directly compare it to the RP2S (which I actually really like as well). Sorry if this didn't come across well in the video!
Shouldn’t have to open up your handheld for it to be good.
Well its good without doing that. But doing that makes it better!
