I agree, long sleeves are more versatile on shirts than short sleeves. If in cotton, rayon/viscose/lyocell or linen, they are just as cool with the sleeves rolled up in hot weather as short sleeves, but can be worn to cover arms in cool weather, of course. My arms get really cold in winter, so I buy my silk shirts with long sleeves, the perfect indoor arm-covering weight, and they can be worn on all but the hottest days, too. I also like long sleeves for extra sun protection in the summer, when needed. I almost never buy 3/4-length sleeves, they never feel right in any weather.

So glad you’re styling short sets, I just got two silk-blend ones, and also ordered the long trousers for one set, to make it three pieces. They’re sublimely comfortable. It’s amazing how much more polished casual items can look if in matching sets.
