Scott Porter was the beatboxer before Layne stepped up to do it when Scott left.
Fun fact: Scott was the original beatboxer and when he left, Layne wanted to try. So that little “red team, blue team” moment is like a little face-off. Still competitive I guess
This is Layne’s arrangement, so he was in charge of video and audio edits, sending it off to Ed Boyer, king of Acapella mixers for a final polish.
Layne is a monster!

I saw a reaction where the composer of the Halo theme listened to this and he really enjoyed it and loved Voice Play's cover.
Rumour is this contains Geoff's lowest note (at time of release) and Eli's highest.
Of course this was before Geoff did the solo cover Way Down. Rek appears briefly in VoicePlay's Boy Bands in 5 Min. He walks across screen and hands off a sandwich to the guys as they're standing around a burning barrel.

Scott's explanation of why they chose to do it said a lot about the members of Voiceplay, their character and love for each other.
You can see Rek make a cameo in Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. He brings a sandwich by and hands it off to Earl while the guys are gathered around a "burn" can.
Elizabeth Zaroff (The Charasmatic Singer) did a reaction to this with Marty O’Donnell, the composer of Halo. Not only did he like it, but at one point he said he wished he had thought of doing what Layne did in the arrangement.

Have you done their other one with no words? That would be In the Hall of the Mountain King. There fun one from January 24 is The Lion Sleeps Tonight which started off as a mini but they were having so much fun Layne extended it to a regular length but still in the mini format.
Outlander on Netflix or Starz, Stranger Things, The Expanse. All excellent. Elizabeth of the Charismatic Voice, does a reaction/analysis of Halo and she has the composer for the original Halo music. They critique VoicePlay's arrangment and liberties. It's fun!
