- Mark Burgess is front man, singer, songwriter, bassist and acoustic guitarist for The Chameleons from 1981 to current day. The Chameleons are arguably one of the most important and influential bands of the last 40 years. Through 4 albums and a couple of side projects Mark has survived. And still active, The Chameleons have just embarked upon a fall US tour.
Mark and The Chameleons are great. I've been listening to their work for 40 years. Message to Mark (who is a bit younger than me), "You have to hang on to the childhood."
Chameleons saved my sanity at a very difficult time in my life.
Thank you Charles for saying that friend. It certainly saved me from some aspects of life and it came with a new outlook on life itself. Chameleons was there when I found them and they're still here. Bless them.❤
Thankyou for this. i loved them since 1986 & was astonished when first having access to the internet in 2008 to discover they’d reunited & toured 8 years previously. i hope to finally see them in Bristol in August. (You weren’t the only one to suffer psychosis or paranoia having smoked hash & or grass from the 1980s ! always felt well chilled the following day but for me the stuffs’ initial hit was two-head city & often hideous…)😁👍🐢
They always sounded just like the Chameleons to me....love 'em - thanks for the interview to you and Mark, really enjoyed this
Oh man, wonderful. Loads of insights. Script of the Bridge LP means a lot to me. Mark Burgess is a genius.
15 years ago after one of his solo gigs, he and i were singing - beer was involved- Sparks songs out on the deck at the bar.
Great bloke
legendary bassist/vocalist of The Chameleons.
Interesting fact, Dave Fielding pretty much founded The Chameleons, Mark was asked to join. But Dave and Reginald Smithies were co - founders.

I'm going to say something that's not very original but the music of the chameleons is part of my life. Thx Mark.
The 'Whirly Tubes' mentioned on Monkeyland you can also hear on Disorder off Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures
Agree..first heard In Shreds at Cloud 9 club early 85 Manchester...a different world...invent a time machine.
Cloud 9 was the first club I ever went to, probably about the same time, and In Sheds was definitely played, as at the Ritz on a Monday ,Berlin, The Venue and Cella vie. Great band great times
Most influential band of the last 40 years? The best band in human history would be more accurate.
interview denver sometime?
