As a couple, y’all should do “If We Were Vampires” next. A love so with such a powerful and emotional message that Jason said for the first year or so after writing it, he could only perform it as the last song in the set because it was too emotionally draining to play more songs after singing it.

This is one of the deepest songs ever written. I've heard it so many times and every time it makes me tear up.
Jason Isbell is a terrific songwriter and guitarist. You really can't go wrong with his music but if you want a suggestion, I'd say give "Songs She Sang In the Shower" a listen. Jason's wife Amanda Shires is a wonderful musician as well, She often plays with Jason and is also part of the supergroup The Highwomen. If Jason and/or Amanda come to your town you should plan a night out.
His songs often remind me of novels, edited into short stories, turned to poetry and set to music that become movies in my minds eye when i listen to him. His work almost always makes me smile and regularly makes me cry.
Glad y'all got to Jason Isbell. One of the best songwriters and musicians going these days. Every song on each of his albums is solid. There are lots of country ballads, but he can rock out with the best of 'em.
I don't know how I missed this. I search for Jason reactions all the time. The RUclips algorithm sucks. Me and Jason are from the same tiny community of Greenhill Alabama. He is a brilliant songwriter. His ability to turn a phrase to tell a story is amazing.

Probably the best line I have ever heard in a song, There's one thing that's real clear to me, No one dies with dignity. Also, the fact that is brought up in the song that no matter how many friends and loved ones are there or around, everyone faces death alone. The song is just heart-wrenching, beautiful, but brutal honest truth.

Jason Isbell is a master songwriter. Never have I heard or felt in my soul that is even close.
One of the truly great albums. Jason is sober 11 years today (maybe yesterday). This album he touches on some of those things he got through. But if you want another tearjearker but in a happier way you need "If We Were Vampires"

I cared for my best friend for the 2 months and 20 days she died of stage 4 pancreatic, and this song always makes me think of her everytime. Thank you for listening to it. That 161 days was full of me just trying to joke and make her smile, but it didn't have much effect the last 2 weeks. I miss her.
Jason Isbell has a my favorite song writer and singer since 2015 when I discovered him he made me want to write music. I haven’t listened to this song since my cancer diagnosis last year because it hit too hard, but watching you two react to it made it easier. All of his songs are brilliant “White Man’s World”, “ Cover me up”, “ Songs she sang in the shower”, or “”Goddamn lonely love. Thanks for reacting to this song now so can listen to it again. I’ve seen Jason Isbell and the 400 unit 9 times since 2015 he’s that wonderful!
I met my husband after being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, I had an experimental surgery that has added years to my life though we never make it through this song
Just seen him in mobile alabama, my lady put me onto him. Only a few country artists I like and he's one of them now
Gotta say, I'm impressed you got through this without shedding a tear. I've heard this song a hundred times and I still can't do it. Any Isbell song is going is going to be great, but if you liked the way this one hit you, I recommend If we were Vampires next. Nobody can do it like Jason.

Jason has put out several great records, but this one has a special place in my heart. Not one throwaway track on it my mind, but as a cancer survivor Elephant rocked me to my core. Thanks for posting this reaction.
I like where the characters admits that he almost tried to walk away from his friend dying from cancer, but he is finally resigned to just be there for them until the end. It’s a bitter sweet song about watching someone you care about die. Realizing that no one dies with dignity, but you can treat them with kindness and dignity until the end.

I lost a buddy from liver cancer last year. He was 33 and played minor league baseball. He lived it like this, man.
It's beautiful to see a song get the gentleman to send out prayers to people. The lady picked up real quick at the beginning, quicker than average for this song on its subject matter. Great reaction , you two.

I'm pretty sure i had the same reaction as Asia at the 1:05-1:15 section of the video the 1st time i heard this song. His words start sinking in deep, and you start thinking about some things about the elephants that you are trying to ignore as well. Great video!
