Seems like oikura herself went through a terrible mental breakdown for her to not know that her mother was dead the entire time. Gosh I feel so bad for her
It's probably her mind tricking itself from the madness she's experienced. Kinda like an immune system protecting you from viruses, to the point that sodachi didn't even know that her mother's already dead long time ago
I didn’t know about monogatari and I ended up watching these arcs first. It was one hell of a start, no idea who these characters where or what was going on, and it was amazing
Thats the beauty if the show altought I dont recommend watching it in this order, you can in theory but then there is an almost non existent character introduction that leave you with a lot of questionmarks in your head. The story is not presented in an chronological order (on purpose of course).
Oikura Sodachi was such a tragic character I wished what really happened to her was what she was at zoku owarimonogatari but as Thanos says it and most philosophers "Reality is often disappointing"
This is exactly what Araragi experienced. He knows the truth, but he shrugs it off because its too brutal and sad for Oikawa. He is as sharp as Hanekawa, its just that he refused to accept the truth
@@anonymousentity5106 Right. That why an oddities that came from Him said that he is too kind. Araragi probably had a good guest of what happened from the start
It's a literal parallel for Araragi's thought process. He was ignorant because he couldn't accept something that dark, meanwhile his dark underbelly's personification is the one trying to tell him the answer.
I don't get this. Surely with a rotting corpse sitting in an unventilated room for two years, there would be a smell right? I can imagine Sodachi not smelling it because of her mental illness but she lives in a council estate so there are other tenants who could smell it. Also during this arc, Sodachi mentions that social workers were going to come visit her to assess her living condition as part of her receiving welfare. This implies that they've been visiting since her mother disappeared since that's when she was receiving welfare checks. Why didn't they notice? And before anyone says it, dead things smell fucking horrific. A dead raccoon was decomposing just behind my house a few months ago and it borderline made my place unlivable from the smell.
I think she couldn't distinguish the smell of the corpse and the garbage in and outside the house and some other issues. Oikura said that the house was full and full of garbage that she couldn't even imagine to clean it, it was useless. Probs the garbage was so much that she mistook the smell of corpse with garbage. It might be explained in the novel better I guess and about the social worker one I think you misunderstood, since she said that they have been visiting her for 2 years, which is after her mother disappeared and when she came back to the araragi's town.
@@WildSoftie I don't want to sound too gross here but there is a big difference in the smell of garbage and the smell of something dead. Regardless, the smell should be noticeable by people in the estate so they should've reported it to welfare services who check up on her. They should've noticed the smell that you and I both agree is awful and done something at the very least. Whether or not they bothered looking into the master bedroom.
@@yoman7873 I can see that and I actually feel like it was implied in the anime because I believe they say she "maintained" the corpse. That you are in-touch with your dark and morbid side ? Both Hanekawa and Araragi are smart enough to think of it instantly they just don't want to entertain the idea on a instinctive level, Ougi is basically Araragis shadow self and Hanekawa washed the dye out of her hair to get it, with the stripes in her hair representing the emotions and "impure" aspects of her personality she tends to suppress.
