Don’t know why people are complaining about the pay honestly. Being a security guard requires minimal effort. What more do you want for an easy job. Warehouse workers make the same and they do a bunch of labor. And as far as people saying “ you just do 8 hours behind a desk and get your guard card, no type of training whatsoever” well you should have the decency to train on your off time when you can. I train muay Thai and BJJ just Incase my fatass has to use it in a situation. You should also be working on your 100m sprints Incase you need to chase a motherfucker. Look, being a security guard may not be the best, but it’s a stepping stone to becoming a CO and eventually a cop if you want it. You have to grind with anything you do at life to make it a career. And as far as training , I know a lot of cops that just train at the academy and never train after again, that’s very unprofessional, keep your body right , train for any situation, and stop bitching . Thank you

This might be the best positive reinforced comment to kill all negative comments. I wouldn't say all security jobs are easy depending on what it is and what/who you have to deal with. But everything else, I couldn't agree more. I never get why people who complain about or make fun of security would use 11 minutes of their life watching my video.

I have to disagree with you due to the fact that in my experience as a security officer/guard we have a lot of responsibility and our lives are in danger just from wearing the uniform. Like i tell ppl all the time "everyone makes fun of us until they getting their ass whooped and need us!"

Like some of the other comments, it does depend on where you're posted.
I'm at a post thay feels like free money, but there are some I know of which should be paid more at the same place.
The supervisor, who has actual responsibilities it's only a dollar more for the job.
In the most tedious job which is Patrol, gets the same as me who just sits and basically watches RUclips while I wait for something to happen

I did that for 12 yrs. It all comes down to management, pay and the contract. I had "chill" contracts. I was able to set my laptop next to the monitors and watch both. Also, I did my crafts while on duty...........................especially at nights. I had a great system going and when you know your site, shift and clientelle, you can get a lot of personal business done without it affecting your job at all. The biggest mistake guards will make when they want to sleep on duty, is to go off and hide somewhere and sleep. Yeah, the camera won't catch you sleeping; but, they guards forget the most obvious: THE CAMERA WILL CATCH YOU MISSING FROM YOUR POST!!!

Some good tips, some bad tips ... I can't recommend getting on your phone. Check it once in a while ok, but not for killing time. A lot of places are zero tolerance. Maintaining a positive attitude is key. Get up, walk around. Do push ups and jumping jacks. But don't watch movies and stuff. Keep your eyes on the prize, always. Shit can go bad real quick. Aside from my rant, I appreciate your honesty and applaud your efforts. All the best.

Well you shouldn't be on your phone because I work in some high risk areas where we have armed guards and everything and one officer was a armed guard at a spin and win which is like a mini Casino she sat down ate her food and had her phone in her face and not aware and next thing you know she had a gun in her face and a person taking her phone so I suggest just staying off your phone for personal safety you need to keep your head on a swivel and paying attention to what's going on

I'm considering something like night security. Honestly, I want an easy, no stress job. Which companies pay the most? $17/hr wouldn't be bad. There is one company that hires for $24/hour, but it's out in the elements, 12 hour shifts 6-7 days a week. Very strict. Good money, but I think I would get tired of that pretty quick.

    1. Make sure your post orders are followed to the letter. 2. Make sure you shower within a few hours just before your shift. 4. Make sure your uniform is clean and wrinkle free. 5. Make sure your Hygiene is proper at all times. 6. Make sure you know all your post orders and contact numbers Incase of a 911 situation. 7. Greet everyone by saying hello good morning, afternoon, evening simple. 8. Do not open draws or file cabinets or enter cubicles unless it is related to your job. 9. Make sure your allowed to read, write, or watch programs on your phone. 10. Breaking a simple post order will get your removed from the job site. 11. Never escalate a situation just walk away and report as instructed your not a cop. 12. Make sure you have a flashlight at all times that way if the power goes out you have a light source. 13. If you get tired at your post do another round it will wake you up. 14. Be professional at all times and make sure your shoes are shiny and clean at all times. 15. You have one chance make that first impression after that you will not be taken serious if you look like you slept in your uniform. 16. Make sure you show up 15 minutes minutes early take passdown instructions before the prior shift leaves. 17. I work the grave shift and the best way I stay awake is get 7 to 8 hours of sleep each day.

I would show presence, carried a mag and flood light would use my flood light to pan all over the post looking for anything suspicious. call and check up on other officers. keep my DAR current and be detailed in what I note on it. look at everything on post to read. look and read the pass down a log. other officers DARs and all incident reports. This serves as a valuable way to learn about the post and what to expect. Do my rounds and carry my flood light with me and pepper spray. look at all bulletins, notices and special reports. Always be alert and rested and look busy. Smile and greet everyone. look sharp and have all of your gear, like flashlight, mace, taser, and baton. and the like. I used to trained officers and made sure they learned the 10 codes and was versed in military time.

    Looking sharp! Great job!
Chew gum or walk. That will keep you awake. Also, while you do your rounds, you can make up stuff to do. Like, check fire extinguishers to make sure they're full and check their expiration dates. You can check every door in the building to make sure it's locked. If you find one unlocked you can spend time making a report. You can check the carpet for any potential trip hazards, like carpet starting to stretch out and wrinkled up. You can also check the stairwells and the fire exit doors. Instead of telling people not to do their job maybe you should encourage them to actually do it

    • @stevkemp7
      @stevkemp7  6 лет назад

Michelle The Security Guard Thanks! Although these are great tips, not every building site you go to will require you do that. For instance, the duties at the building of my main site are to check if fire extinguishers are full, AED defibrillators are working, evac chairs are in place, and certain doors are locked on every floor but at this building that I'm in during the video, I just have to unlock the front doors from the inside when it's time to open them, and there are no carpets here and it doesn't matter if any other doors within the building are closed/open, locked or unlocked.

stevkemp7 I get it but you are technically not supposed to be doing that. I know it gets boring but I would not be putting this up in case the client sees it. I am pretty sure they are not paying you to watch movies. Your company could loose the contract over this video. Good luck.

I always laugh and shake my head at people who try to shit on security guards no matter what level of security they may work, because the truth is they are legit first responders unlike the “first” responders the majority of the population has been conditioned to look at as such. This of course does not include commissioned LEO who work details at establishments that have contracted them. Just my humble opinion.

Thanks very much for the kind thoughts! 😊 My life has indeed taken a monumental turn around, to cut a really long story short, I moved into a relative’s house where they let me live rent free until I could get my life back on track, I was also fed well!
Out of the blue I applied for a job as a chef in a first class kitchen, as luck would have it the head chef and CPD’s quit due to the inhumane work load, and no one else would work in my section due to this fact. This made me by default head of section. As a person who does not know how to cook, it was challenging and horrible but the head chefs from other sections taught me as I worked. I saved up every penny, only eating the food from work and dinner from home, only used my work bus pass (included for free) to get to work and did body weight exercises on my day off.
The pandemic ensued and I was able to purchase a small shop space for cheap with every penny that I had saved up (and borrowed a little) and have opened my own small food store. It isn’t much but I’m working hard and finally have my own place to live and worked my own boss again. I may do a video on how things went and how I progressed to where I am now, I’ll more than likely post it on my other channel AirsoftAfterHours here on RUclips.
I want to thank everyone that supported me during my life’s toughest time and to say to others keep pushing towards your dreams and if you are aggressive enough, you will get there!!!! Thank you 🙏
