      I just visited the Edison's Menlo Park lab recreation at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. I highly recommend it to everyone. In his 80's Edison recreated his Menlo park lab at the museum to include all the shelved bottles of chemicals, elements, powders, etc into it. Probably 500+ jars and bottles!! It's very impressive, and it looks like Edison had the no stack, one-handed rule too. The lab was lined with shelves across every perimeter wall up to ceiling. It made me think of Casey's studio in NYC, Tom Sachs and of course Van Neistat's spaces.

    good lord what an absolute banger of a video. it's a true revelation to see someone take organisation to a next level while yet keeping things small, understandable and personal. absolutely agree on the talismans - espescially rubber bands are under-appreciated by society as far as i'm concerned. I always have a rubber band wrapped around my lighter, so by default i carry both a lighter and a thick rubber band.

Van talking about any subject is so on brand and authentic that it makes me think this platform is not just full of people making life seem easy or trying to sell me something. Thank you Van for these awesome videos and please never change your style for anything. :)

    I love the one handed rule and practice it with many things, not just items on a shelf. I also have a "no-handed" rule when travelling. Whenever possible, I use a backpack that allows me to travel freeing up both hands for getting out passport, hold phone, hold drink, operate iPod, etc. I also don't own an umbrella...in the rare occurrence that it rains, I just accept wet clothes as the penalty for not needing to hold one up, carry one, store one, and dry one out. I think of it as an outdoor shower. I hate carrying things.

    • @grantcivyt

      I don't know how important it is, but affecting the free flow of air can be a problem. I know cars have shields that redirect the air intake to the engine, and I imagine obstructing the intake could harm engine performance.

    • @free2beme773
      @free2beme773 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@mrc4910
      Reliability of the battery is not always or even usually the issue. Any battery can be defective even when new. And anyone can accidentally leave the interior overhead light on overnight, draining the battery. And any vehicle can have an alternator issue that drains the battery. Among many other reasons for having a dead battery. Also, having jumper cables could save someone else in trouble, too.

      Yeah, I was wondering about that. I would be quizzing some experts of my car model's engine before I did something like that. I would also worry about starting a fire if it was close to something hot. Nevertheless, if a person knows what they are doing, I think it is genius, and I've long wondered why car manufacturers haven't done the same!!! They should also have convenient spots for tools to break the glass in case of falling into a river, a place for simple tools, a place for an emergency kit, etc.

    I went to hit the like button, but realized I had already hit it after one of the other dozen times that I watched this video. The fact that the algorithm keeps dropping this into my feed is a good indicator that I must be watching the proper amount of useful content on a regular basis. 😂
