Rad, rad tutorial mate. Was thinking we needed one that shows many angles- specifically the juggler's perspective. Am wondering why I'm not subscribed to you! Shall remedy that!
If you look around on the internet, I wound up picking up a factory second contact ball from Fire Mecca awhile back for only $7. It had some tiny imperfections that you cant really see and doesn't spoil the illusion, I think they are especially great for beginners. It was a 3" ball and after shipping, I think I paid a total of $10 or $11 for it.
This is a 4 inch acrylic. Fushigi is about 3" so it's smaller and lighter than this ball, which makes it harder to isolate and not as pretty to an audience. My problem with Fushigi balls is that every one I've seen has been slightly flawed... not perfectly spherical - especially the silver center. As a result the illusion of stillness is broken because the eye can detect that the ball is rotating.
By comparison, a 3" acrylic from, say, Neon husky or Renegade is only $22 - just a couple of dollars more than a Fushigi and much MUCH more beautiful to use and look at. The only good reason to buy a fushigi is if it's for a kid - because the central silver point prevents them from being a fire hazard in the sunlight. As far as I'm aware there are no clear stageballs in existence yet. I wish there were.
@OcTavO99 Ahhhh, you are too kind hon. I grind a lot, now I'm learning to thread them together with body rolling..eeekk!!! ;D One day I hope to visit the other side of the pond and meet fellow orb lovers it's great to learn from other people, we could swap notes! :)
I just started.. but I think the best tip I had was practice with your left hand if you are right handed, so both hands will be as skilled. (sorry English is not my 1st language)
You pay a couple dollars more for Acrylic with a metal ball on the inside and the lack of dirt attraction that stage balls bring, though lot of the time a fushigi does have some defects that ruin isloations but dont hurt practice and a fushigi will give you experince with an acrylic ball. I have a fushigi and it works just as well as any $100 acrylic ball or $12 stageball
The clear acrylic ball looks beautiful. Pricy though. What's different with the fushigi other than its make? Though it was vaguely explained, I still don't exactly understand the purpose of the reflective thing in the middle. I figured its to help beginners. I would prefer a clear stage ball, but I know nothing of contact juggling. Could a beginner still practice with a clear acrylic ball?
Yeup! i can isolate the ball in both directions with one hand, the other hand is lagging behind slightly. i'm only able to isolate it in one direction on that hand. :( Once you have learnt one way, it is incredibly hard to train your hand to go in the other direction. Your hand will always want to go in the direction you learnt first.
Here's a thought. I wonder if Contact Jugglers in the northern hemisphere learnt anti-clockwise palm spinning on the right hand first (like me), and Contact Jugglers in the southern hemisphere learnt clockwise on the right hand first? You know, like the question: What direction does your toilet flush?
Frozen Mango Thanks for clearing that up, lol. Twas merely food for thought. I guess it's all relative to us humans, and only clouds and fluids in toilets behave in this way.
Love all the "Do not buy fushigi stuff" theres nothing wrong with them its just a cheap begginer alternative to $60+ full acrylic balls, and all acrylic balls are breakable >.>
Not cheap at all when it comes down to it. Why pay $20 for a poorly-made, pretty much useless ball when you could buy a perfectly good contact stageball from some reputable dealer such as Neon Husky for just $12?
Also got to realise that fushigi has caused pain and heartache to all of those contact jugglers out there that have been practising the art their lives. It attempted to shamelessly rebrand contact juggling as fushigi, claimed in the advert that it was a gimmick and that no skill was involved (going so far as to say that it could be mastered in minutes) This wrecked performers incomes because people heard on tv it was a trick. Add that to the fact its really poorly made, seriously get an acrylic.
One of the nicest and most sensible tutorials on this subject thst I have seen.
Wonderfullllll .....!!!!!!
Every moovment is shown so clearly .... You are absolutly great !!!!
@vesperwalk an honor to have you subscribed! I've been watching your isolations with envy for quite some time now!

This one is 100mm, but you can also do the move very effectively with a 90mm if 100 is too heavy.

great tutorial! just wished going in the opposite direction was covered more.
@OcTavO99
Thank you!! :)
How big is the ball
Great tutorial but, how much time did it take to you to learn it?
Thank you
@vesperwalk
Oh, turns out I am subscribed! You tube can be weird....
Both hands, both direction???? o.O
Is that possible????

+〈insert profile name here〉 That was actually proven wrong. It has no scientific basis.
