Just as I thought, the AI doesn't handle the earlier seasons as well. It's still good, but faces, especially when farther away, and backgrounds are a lot more smudged and unnatural than in the later VOY / DS9 upscales. I would love to see TNG DVD upscaled and compared to Blu-ray, to see just how much AI could do to early DS9 / VOY seasons compared to the real deal.
Great set of vids, and good know other folk are thinking of giving upscales to Star Trek! I've also picked up a trial of Topaz AI, looking to upscale old 480/540p videos I have to 1080p. I've had some really great results, and others mixed with some noticeable noise/blockiness, do you have any general tips on what could be done to help reduce that?
This is a question that the software company could give more details on. They say they add sources from all over to train it. But I honestly know nothing about that part of the process. I believe it also learns from each video that I work on as the database files seem to grow after each one.
@@BillyReichard Oh ok ... I thought you were using an open source Github project. One of them Ive been keeping an eye for months now from Frederico Perazzi called ProSR .... But there are many more out there. There's also youtube channel called "" Two Minute Papers "" that regularly makes videos on the latest published successes on Neural Networks and stuff. I guess we should generally be open to the idea of upres-ing VOY & DS9 ... The results will only grow more towards ground truth. And an actual remaster will never happen for Voyager. You will never find all the CG assets and scene files and remaking them wouldn't do the show justice / strangely be more costly than what they did back then.
@@mysticmarble94 Ah, several people have mentioned different open source applications that I guess use a similar process. I looked at one but while I'm pretty good at general IT stuff this was way above my normal learning curve. It involved python and other languages that I'm just slightly familiar with. So I'm using just a simple windows built app to do it. And yes, I really wish they would uprez Voyager and DS9, but that doesn't look like it'll ever happen. Mainly why I'm doing this.
1:20 Oh dont tell me you were not thinking what Mr Paris was thinking Mr Kim. 😂
Reminds me so much of an old Twilight Zone!!!
I can't believe nobody wanted to join in on the dancing and free food.
😂

Wait a minute... So all the people who are captured by the caretaker all died when Janeway exploded the caretaker array?
I think they were part of Voyager's crew.
omg please do Year of Hell!
Harry is so handsome
Thanks for your hard work! Would love to see the entire series this way. Is there a possibility you can do the healing scene from Unity?
Ohhh or the end scene ... When the Borg cube powers up 🤯

is the dvd source file 480p?
Yes it is
@@BillyReichard thats very interesting because for the uk Doctor Who DVD's they are 576p which is causing some different results.
Did you use a public data set for teaching the network ?
I feel like your particular upres network is fitted especially for clean close up shots.
