  • The Magma Railroad, also known as the Magma Railroad, was a railroad that operated in Arizona, United States, from 1915 to 1984. It was built to serve the Magma Copper Mine, located in Pinal County, Superior, Arizona.
The Magma Copper Mine was located in the heart of the Superstition Mountains, in an area known as the Magma Mining District. The mine was discovered in 1904 and began operations in 1906. Because of the large amount of copper ore being mined, an efficient mode of transportation was needed to get the ore to markets. Thus, the Magma Railroad was built, which began operations in 1915.
Initially, the railroad operated on a narrow gauge (3 feet), but in 1924, it was converted to standard gauge (4 feet 8.5 inches) to facilitate connection with the main line of the Southern Pacific Railroad.
During its operation, the Magma Railroad played an important role in the development of the mining industry in Arizona, transporting copper ore and other products. However, over time, the demand for copper ore transportation decreased and competition with other modes of transportation increased. Therefore, the Magma Railroad was finally closed in 1984.
And today in this second part .I finish traveling with my railcart from route 60 to Superior. I still have to travel from route 60 to Magma together with Union Pacific tracks fully in operation. But that will be in the next adventure of the railcat. Thanks

Cross these tracks every time we drive from Phoenix to Gila Valley. If my memory serves correctly, part of the train robbery closing scenes from the 1962 film How The West Was Won were filmed on this railroad back when it was still actively used by the mines. Thank you for posting this beautiful video.

I've always liked simple videos like this one. I went on vacation from my work on July 1, 2024. And the first thing I saw was these videos and I really liked them. It's a shame that here in my country there are no abandoned railways like this. The best thing about the video is that it's open cell. I don't know about other people but I watched these videos a lot.👍

Awesome Video! I'm always looking at old rail lines when driving and wonder what it would be like to do this. Back in the late 70's early 80's I rode the mine train between Ajo and Gila Bend with my dad a couple times.

Very Good video, and follow up to the other video.
    - I bet that Rattlesnake had never seen a human before.
-The Queen Creek Bridge may be rotten and dangerous. Maybe that is why they privately blocked it off?
    Very fun!

That's a very cool video! I spent some time in the early 2000s exploring the Arizona shortlines and loved them all - I was disappointed the Magma Railroad had closed by then but it was neat to see it from this perspective. All laid with staggered 39' rails as well - old school!

    • @djraythefurry0420

Actually there's a few laws that do allow you to use the abandoned tracks just as long as you don't damage them or do anything to touch them up it's kind of a weird little loophole you can use the tracks but you can't really touch the tracks at the same time
If he's on that railroad system that parallels Route 68 (the old Route by the way)
Then he's pretty much able to use those just as long as he does not go across the bridges as the bridges are incredibly dangerous
