I would think if they made the cover leak proof and you filled the tumbler with 20 or 30 ounces of soda pop the cover would blow sky high if you shook the tumbler too much when walking, running, hiking, etc. It needs some kind of pressure release point.
Only "some" coffee comes out... and that's good!?!?!?!? NOT spill proof. You drop the cup on the floor of your car as you're driving and your carpet is TOAST!
I just spent 150 on 10oz, 20oz and 30oz tumblers with "Spill Proof Lids" at additional cost from RTIC. I was pissed when I found out the spill proofs Lids spilled. all they need to do is add a gasket to the edges of the center slider and it would stop this issue.
If you spent that much expecting spill proof lids then it's your fault. These lids are not spill proof nor are they advertised as such. They are advertised as splash proof, which they are.
+Michael Swaim (RFMike) right. I just got an RTIC 30 ounce and sending it back mainly because of the lid. when using a straw it's great but if you want to sip from the lid liquid does get past the gasket and will leak which is not cool for me. water ok but if I'm drinking a colored liquid I don't want it dripping on my clothes. keeps ice well but the lid is a major thing for me. back to using the Tervis who's lid is much better just doesn't keep ice as well but I'd rather replace ice then have red punch all over my clothes
+Josh Thompson I honestly don't Even use RTiC lids for my 30oz cups.. mainly because of the same issue with leaking out of the lid and or breather hole.
what's that a cup of cream with a little coffee
They call them splash proof.. not spill proof..

The plastic slider on my lid doesn't slide easily. I almost have to force it open and closed.
They advertise as splash proof, not spill proof. Your video is not accurate to what they claim their product to be.
+J bear yes you are correct.
