I grew up going to catholic schools. Stopped caring once I left for college. Few years later, just like Whatifalthist says here, I realized (from other smart people), that my world view and beliefs are just Christian beliefs AND living immorally had made my life just not a fun time. Decided I’d be a rebel and actually believe in something, started practicing again, decided I’d give living morally a shot and it actually works. That’s the thing about Western Christian beliefs - they can actually make your crappy life not a crappy life. You get a community from the church, better/higher quality life experience, I make my social circle/community/nation better by being a moral citizen and it’s cool that I share the exact same beliefs as my ancestors for like 2,000 years. There’s no real negative but you gotta go all in
Although I am not Catholic and have clear views on Mary, Pope and Saint worship, I must say that I love the Catholic channel Pax Tube as well. Similar vibe to Whatifalthist.
I myself am Agnostic but the British historian Tom Holland made me realize how Christianity is such a huge part still of western countries. Even I who live in the Netherlands where most people don't really practice religion can see how much culture, ethics and such all passed down from Christianity in some way. I feel like many Atheists and other agnostics often don't wanna admit that this is still such a huge part of our culture in all sort of subtle ways we don't even think about.
Interesting that you mentioned how Christianity broke down clan and family structure. One of my favorite YT channels, Kraut, made a video about a year ago talking about this very thing. For those curious, it’s called “How Christianity destroyed the tribal family”
The destruction of tribal family is of utmost importance. Because in a tribal family, the clan patriarch is basically treated as God. He is always right. All moral authority within the family come from him. And when a sinful man is worshipped as God, all sorts of horrible things happen.
@Daniel-yh9dz It's doubly ironic because in post industrial capitalist society, multinational corporations hate the small nuclear family unit- families save and invest money. But single adults, especially women, spend money and go into debt buying- clothes, tech, drugs, cosmetic surgery, leasing cars, trips to resorts, casinos, cruises, etc. Capitalism wants us single and lonely! More profits.
As a Christian, I think it’s high time that we bring back the fun stuff. The feast days, the celebrations of the saints, demonology and angelic studies, the rest of the Seven Sacraments (not just an “symbolic” Eucharist and “symbolic” baptism), the Sign of the Cross, teaching about the heresies and councils that corrected them, stained glass windows, icons, church beauty, monks, nuns, fasting, not shying away from science (because you actually CAN reconcile faith and science), organized church charity, formalized theology, TRADITIONAL HYMNS, and dives into the deep history of the early church. I’m tired of a stale, anti intellectual, and judgmental Evangelical church that’s barely holding on. I want a fun, community building, intellectually thrilling, and Godly Christian church. Hopefully we can move towards this, and reform again.
I like the beautiful churches, dress, community outreach, traditional music. Much better than snake handling or the speaking in tongues and contemporary worship music bullshit. I've been to so many popup churches as a kid and it left an impression that I'm still trying to extract from my skull.
You said every christian area that wasn't Indo-European was conquered by the Muslims, that isn't entirely true, the 1 and only exception to that is Ethiopia which fought off muslims and even the Ottomans up until they eventually re-establish contact with the rest of Christianity when Portugal discovered them and started helping them fight off the Ottomans as fellow Christians. However I suppose your point still stands, the Ethiopian Empire was a warrior state which held out against any and all threats, there's a reason they were the only African country to never be colonized (no, part of the country being occupied during part of ww2 is not colonization, that's like saying that Germany colonized France or Norway, or more accurately it's like saying Germany colonized the USSR).
@@popgabriel5327Ethiopians also boast that unlike other parts of Africa, major industries/factories are not owned by Indian, Lebannese or Syrian Arab Christians and Muslims like Senegal, Nigeria, Mali, Uganda etc. Post colonization, French and British banks gave loans only to expat Arabs & Indians in Africa to buy factories formerly owned by them.
I was pleasantly suprised. I had gone off WhatAltHist a bit and then he encapsulated a lot of my thoughts about Christianity in one video. We have shirked being brothers in Christ for rampant individualism and we are all the worse for it.
@@jls5480 because it's our own names, and we ourselves fall short of the virtue we recognize. Christians were able to make great things through humility.
And that's the problem. Christianity's insistence on passivity, meekness, & self-sacrifice has done nothing but water the world down. I'm atheist as well, but the Pagan mythologies at least had strength & vitality to them. What do we have now? A peasant-god, strung up on a cross. Trying to convince us to not live our lives to the fullest, to not take what we want & do what we desire. The logic of the weak.

You need to see the video “Zeitgeist Debunked: Jesus Is Not A Copy Of Pagan Gods” because so many claims this guys makes on Christianity are so wrong. I don't know everything, but it's depressing to see his constant disinfo and false predictions.
As a Christian, this video was way better than I expected. Also, that “masculine” portion of Christianity that is often missed is simply the Old Testament. So often ignored ,but so fundamentally vital.
One of the ways in which the Orthodox Church fundamentally differs from Protestantism is that Orthodox Christians see the OT as a context and frame of reference for understanding the Gospel. Then they go on to focus on the lives of saints, which provides a level of localization. While this prevents a lot of confusion, Orthodoxy lacked the scholarship that came to lend weight to Catholicism with saints like Thomas Aquinas, who was really one of the heavyweights of Western thought. Orthodoxy is a lot more like those ancient mysteries, having lacked that interplay between the laity and text of the Bible which set Europe on fire in the 17th century and led to things like the introduction of Jesuit scholarship. In Western Christendom, the clergy set out to substantiate their world view on an intellectual and logical level, which backfired after Origin of Species.
No, lol. There may be muscular rhetoric in the Old Testament, but in the European context it is purely Germanic warrior culture. When the western Roman Empire fell, the church in Rome had no choice but to cooperate with and employ the Lombards, Ostrogoths, Visigoths, and then send haphazard missions to the Franks and Saxons. They told these people that Jesus was an immortal conqueror of death. The tribes own incentive for converting was that they believed it would lead to stability. Even still, the first 500 years of European Christendom is full of Germanic warriors kinslaying their family, and having concubines. The Christianity of Chesterton or Tolkien took centuries to develop. Chivalry itself is also a sanitized Germanic warrior ethic. Read “The Germanization of Medieval Christianity” by James Russell
I as an observer from outside of both Christianity and Western culture have always been telling people that while Christianity might not have invented morality, they are essentially the first in the West to write it down for your easy reference.
Morality was mostly always based on individual excellence/achievement before Christianity. Nothing flipped the script like with Christ when he said even great men are evil sinners in the eyes of God. The original Hebrews knew this too but Jesus took it much further saying things like even looking at another mans wife in a sexual way is committing adultery in your heart. The idea of mental cleanliness and that even dwelling on evil thoughts is evil was foreign to almost every other belief system
Christians seem more like they're willing to give chances for outsiders to trade or join their communities. Thus, outsiders bring in information and skills from foreign lands at the time. Information and skills like engineering, philosophy, maths, and natural theories that are precursor to science. Mend all that knowledge into their politics and science in the late 16th century and onwards.
Please link the moral parts of the bible , Or even the koran and torah, Their is nothing moral about any of them or within in them. Australian Aboriginal's of which i am one have had over 65,000 years of civilisation and culture and women had rights right up until 1788 when white British christian landed , Found out women have equal rights and started slaughtering whole communities of my people because god does not allow women equal standing in christian governed societies.
I think another aspect that is overlooked is the role women had as martyrs in the Roman Empire. I remember letters written from fathers to daughters who refused to renounce their faith. If you know anything about Roman fathers you know how big this is.

I am an atheist as well, but even I will admit that the Christian framework of morals is the foundation of most every thing we in the west think of as moral goods. The concept of mercy and having empathy for ones enemies is concept mostly found in societies founded on Christianity or Buddhism.
Slight correction for 24:37 Constantine did not technically declare Christianity to be the official religion of the Roman empire. He was the first emperor to become involved in doctrinal disputes, he and his co-emperor issued the Edict of Milan which decriminalized Christianity throughout the empire and he was the first emperor to publicly say that he was a Christian. He retroactively attributed his success in the civil wars of the tetrarchy to the Christian god but it's a matter of speculation how sincere his beliefs were. A few decades after the death of Constantine, the Edict of Thessalonica issued by the emperor Theodosius declared Nicene Christianity to be the states religion. This is a mistake I've made in the past due to how much of an impact Constantine had on the development of Christianity but it's more complicated than him simply making the empire Christian.
He’s entertaining for sure, but his interpretations aren’t exactly renowned for their accuracy. His lack of in-text citations is a big one and it is the primary reason that holds him back from genuine credibility.
Obviously not to this depth, but this realization of the West being a "Christian Society" was the breaking point in me being an athiest back around 2015 or so. The further time has gone on since then, the more this holds true, and it explains a lot of what we are seeing in American society. Another fantastic video, as usual. @@imperatorscotorum6334 Personally, I respect Christianity a lot, but still elect to be Atheist. Mostly because as an individual, I prefer to find my morality within my own sense of ethics and empathy, rather than a standard set by the Bible. That said, the fact that I'm even able to do so is - no pun intended; a testament to the good Christianity has done.
@@imperatorscotorum6334 Belief can't be forced. I have doubts that any religion is "the" right religion, but what we are seeing is a degradation of the Christian ethics that formed society. Above, when I used the athiest, I specifically meant the "New-Athiesm" of the '00s. An ideology (of which I didn't realize it was at the time) which spent over a decade post 9-11 poking holes in religions. When New-Athiesm attempted to convince people that "The West" wasn't built on Christian ethics was the point I started to doubt that Athism was just pointing out truths and maybe becoming an ideology of it's own. So, I don't consider myself Christian, but I do recognize that the ethics this country was founded on are, and the further we get away from that the further the country gets away from it's intended purpose.
@@Mattical1980 do you not wonder how it was that these corrosive ideologies came to be in the first place? I'm Catholic and I get frustrated with some of the way the Church is going. The Church is trying to conform itself to the modern world in the worst way possible. Rather than try to accommodate people who probably won't step foot in a Church no matter how open and inviting it is, we should double down on what principles make us different and unique. As a young man who is doing his best to get involved in the Church with my wife, I've found that there is a distinct Catholic culture that me and my friends share, it's crazy just how different my wedding was to those of my Protestant friends. There are lots of Athiests out there who want a community and culture, and quite frankly, instead of trying to appeal to gay people or the woke left, we should appeal to the average disgruntled youth who has no sense of belonging. The hardest part will be getting them outside. I put myself in this category as a young person but young people today are normally pretty lazy and aren't involved in anything. We don't go outside and pretty much need to be forced to socialize in person, but when we do, we normally have a lot of fun. Idk what the Church can do to really get these kids out and off their phones but that is what I think will be the key not only to a reguvinized Church, but also a reguvinized Catholic culture and a happier populace that uses Church as a social outlet like their grandparents did. I see this in many of the reformed Church's too, my best friend is Presbyterian and his Church is going through pretty much the same issues we are but worse, stay strong friends, Christianity has seen far worse times. There was a time we were fed to Lions but we came out on top. The Muslims almost conquered Europe several times but we stopped them, as explained in the video, our culture ushered in, what's arguably the best civilization on Earth. The boomers dropped the ball but we can still step up and reguvinize our faith and usher in a new golden age, it's been done before under harsher circumstances. God Bless.
As a once/month goer to church (work on some weekends, and honestly don't feel like it on others), what exactly do you mean by Catholic culture? All I have seen is people going to mass, and get the hell out every Sunday. Some ethnic churches definitely have some more culture such as a few feast days, but the standard Catholic church across the street has very little culture except the mass--at least if you are a 20-30 something year old dude. There's not even any socialization--people just go, pray the mass, and get out without even saying hello to their fellow parishioners.
Not related to belief systems. But the disgruntled youth are distracted, no time to think because you must go, the soceity built up today by billionaires feeds this. I believe that defining your soul in an astetic sense and within a set of rules is what it all boils down to, and that's what many religions do. I don't even think it needs to be anything specifically religious, they just need something that gives them faith in themselves and thier inner world, and thus all other things. It is a matter of the paracosm decaying.
I guess that's what faith does to us, we put our, illogical emotions and place our belief in higher powers & maybe even ourselves to bare with living in a 'weird world'.
This. Individualism, which is one of the basis for much of West's success, is possible only in a Christian society because a Christian is never alone. He always has Jesus with him whom he communicates to. But in an individualistic society, if a person doesn't have Jesus, he is utterly alone, and that can lead to nihilism and suicides. This is one of the reason for nihilism and suicides in the West as they forsook Christianity.
I am 12 and seeing people my age talk about totally degenerate things like porn really saddens me and many of them claim to be Christian while talking about porn and sex constantly
I got “Dominion” earlier this year. It’s a game-changer! I’m 50, and I’ve been involved with political Christianity for 30 years. Read it, listen to it, learn from its history.
The last thing Christianity needs is another reformation to conform to modernism. The very reason Christianity is declining in the first place is because it's constantly chasing modernity and changing its moral structure as a result. There are already so many churches today that don't even resemble Christianity and simply preach progressive propaganda. If anything, Christianity should be providing people an escape from modernity and fostering a connection to our past. If that were to happen I expect the churches in the West to start filling up again.
2 things: 1. Christianity is only declining because of a. Too few fathers, b. People are becoming more honest, and those who don't truly believe aren't pretending anymore 2. The churches that are dying off are ONLY the liberal ones. Conservative churches, especially non denominational churches, are growing rapidly. That being said, the next step is "soft ecumenism". Almost all protestants should be able to worship together, all Christians have the ability to worship with one another. It's funny how the Ortho bros act as if they're having some great resurgence, but the only growing group is conservative nondenoms.

15:59 Christmas isn't Mithra's birthday, that's a myth Zeitgeist made up. Mithras doesn't have a birthday. The commonly understood origin is that it's a Christianization of Saturnalia, but even that's easily subject to scrutiny given there's not actually any records of Saturnalia being celebrated on December 25 after the Republic's end.
Isn't December 25th the winter soltice? That day was a special time for many pre-christianized Germanic tribes. The mass of Christ as the Roman catholics call it was put that week in order to absorb pagans into Christianity.
@@RealLifeIronManNo, it’s December 21st. Also, we only see the December 25 date attributed to Mithra and Sol Invictus after Christianity started- so it’s more likely that they borrowed the date from early Christians. The reason Christians celebrate the birth of Christ on the 25 is because they believed a perfect person would die the same day they were conceived. December 25 - 9 months gets late March or Easter.
@@RealLifeIronMan The Christians that would have invented Christmas didn't have much contact with Germanic tribes. In fact, December 25 was floated as a possible dob for Jesus as early as the 200s. This conclusion was based on some very faulty logic, which asserts that Jewish people are conceived on the same day as their day of death and because they thought His death was on March 25 that must mean his birth was on December 25. None of this really disproves that the date was finally settled upon due to pagan influence, but the evidence is not as clear cut as we've (including myself) been led to believe. The only thing that's conclusive is any pagan influence outside of Roman belief.
@@MalachiCo0 I don't even think that's true. It takes place from the 20th-22nd. If you have a source that states unequivocally that the solstice took place on December 25th from 33 to 500 AD I'll believe you.

He isn't one of those "Christian Nationalists" or "Based Trad Caths" who identifies as a Christian because he wants to be a contrarian to the left (which I've made videos about). With the Christian right, I feel like I'm listening to a bully beating his chest who wants to throw me on the ground and stomp on me because I disagree with them (over theology, not merely values). @@off6848 I guess I wasn't specific enough with my comment, because I do agree with what you said. So, I'll explain my first comment in a little more detail. The message on Christianity and the model of behavior it demands from us is contrary to human nature. Examples: - Christian ideals say that we should forgive our enemies. Human nature says that we should destroy our enemies (to create less risk for ourselves and lessen the competition for resources). - It's male nature to impregnate as many women as we possibly can (a result of evolutionary selection), and it's female nature to get impregnated by the strongest & smartest man they can find (to give her children more desirable genes) as well as the wealthiest & highest status man they can find (to give her and her children more resources and protection to survive) - all a result of evolutionary selection. However, Christian ideals demand that we only have 1 wife and that they must be faithful to each other. This completely destroys the harem structure that comes so naturally to humans. 3) To Christians, Christ is the son of God, and he is a perfect being who is without sin. He's also always talking about how "his kingdom is not of this world". 4) The night before Christ was killed, the washed his disciples' feet and taught them that the greatest in the kingdom of God is to be a servant, and that the meek and the humble will inherit the kingdom of God. The logic of the world says that the powerful, intelligent, and charismatic shall inherit the world - "the right of conquest", if you will. ______ The message of Christianity has always been that we are worldly, carnal, sinful animals that should aspire to enter the kingdom of God - a place that is unlike the world around us in every way. By all means, we are expected to be like God. However, the logic of the world demands that we act selfishly. I said that Christianity is an ideal detached from the world because to be a Christian is to abandon the world's logic for something better. It's to act in a way that's contrary to your nature as a human. I said that the complete Christian ideal is impossible to reach because we still live in a world that demands ugly behavior from us. If we were to act just like Christ, we'd all be crucified by the angry mob (or some other untimely end.) Thus, the most you can realistically expect from any Christian is for them to try their best to live up to a higher standard, only for them to often fail. (That's why it's integral to Christian belief that God expects everything from us, yet he's willing to forgive us when we ultimately disappoint him.)
@philosopherslegacy1983 The morals and values of true Christianity are important for our society to thrive, and come back out of this hole of woke ideological state.
From GK Chesterton’s “Orthodoxy”, the last paragraph in the chapter “The paradoxes of Christianity”. (One of my favourite books. This paragraph is a bit long for this setting but paints a poignant picture and ends in a flourish) “This is the thrilling romance of Orthodoxy. People have fallen into a foolish habit of speaking of orthodoxy as something heavy, humdrum, and safe. There never was anything so perilous or so exciting as orthodoxy. It was sanity: and to be sane is more dramatic than to be mad. It was the equilibrium of a man behind madly rushing horses, seeming to stoop this way and to sway that, yet in every attitude having the grace of statuary and the accuracy of arithmetic. The Church in its early days went fierce and fast with any warhorse; yet it is utterly unhistoric to say that she merely went mad along one idea, like a vulgar fanaticism. She swerved to left and right, so exactly as to avoid enormous obstacles. She left on one hand the huge bulk of Arianism, buttressed by all the worldly powers to make Christianity too worldly. The next instant she was swerving to avoid an orientalism, which would have made it too unworldly. The orthodox Church never took the tame course or accepted the conventions; the orthodox Church was never respectable. It would have been easier to have accepted the earthly power of the Arians. It would have been easy, in the Calvinistic seventeenth century, to fall into the bottomless pit of predestination. It is easy to be a madman: it is easy to be a heretic. It is always easy to let the age have its head; the difficult thing is to keep one's own. It is always easy to be a modernist; as it is easy to be a snob. To have fallen into any of those open traps of error and exaggeration which fashion after fashion and sect after sect set along the historic path of Christendom--that would indeed have been simple. It is always simple to fall; there are an infinity of angles at which one falls, only one at which one stands. To have fallen into any one of the fads from Gnosticism to Christian Science would indeed have been obvious and tame. But to have avoided them all has been one whirling adventure; and in my vision the heavenly chariot flies thundering through the ages, the dull heresies sprawling and prostrate, the wild truth reeling but erect.”

The Roman Empire's strangest colony was *Ancient Israel.* The God of Israel was completely unique and unchanging. While all the idols of the Roman Empire were constantly shifting, morphing, and changing into something else, the God of Israel was the same yesterday, today, and forever. In Malachi 3:6 He said "I am the LORD, and I do not change." Historians have shown us that getting drunk was very popular and encouraged in the ancient world. In fact, drunkenness was often times a way to connect with the divine. But notice how Yahweh is completely different and separate from everything else. In Ephesians 5:18 he said "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery." God always commanded clear minds and to be sober. Lastly, the greatest Man who ever lived was born in the Roman Empire. That man was Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Unlike us, Jesus is completely perfect and without sin. He never had one millisecond of a lazy attitude or a sinful lust. As 1 Peter 2:22 says "He committed no sin and no deceit was found in His mouth." Jesus was crucified by the Jews and Romans but then He rose from the dead, 3 days later, thus defeating death and proving He is the truth! "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. But whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them." John 3:36
It absolutely did. Thats why Jesus never sought to be crowned king in Israel or taught to create a theocracy. The early Platonic Monists used to refer to Christianity as "secularized metaphysics".
"A fish in a pond cannot judge its place in the world." -Rudyard 2023 I've used that axiom in philosophical conversations for years. "Like a fish in a pond." Great work as always. Liked and shared. Godspeed. 🙏🏼🌟

As for the science, its usually framed as opposed to Christianity when in reality its the opposite. I remember i asked my mormon classmate in 7th grade if he believed in science and he gave the same explanation. It made a lot of sense.
Mormons aren’t Christian, though you can put them under “Christianity” they aren’t saved according to traditional Christianity. They follow Joseph smith, often like how Muslims follow Muhammad
Christ came into the world to save its peoples and transform it. He still continues to change, mold, and save the lives of those who follow him. Thank you for the interesting video exploring Christian influences on the world. God be with you out there everybody. ✝️ :)

Everyone needs a foundation. I chose Christianity. I've been without it, and I floundered. Christianity is a solid foundation to build the rest of your life on due to its principles. At 50, I couldn't be happier with Christianity as my cornerstone. It encourages individuality, it nutures truth, and accepts my very human flaws... and that's all in its doctrine! Christianity is the very epitome of freedom.
After overcoming substance abuse i found that exploring the woods was natural therapy for me. There's something so therapeutic about hiking in the woods on a rainy cloudy day and stumbling upon lush moss patches, lichen, and mushrooms growing on the forests floor. At first the ground seems like an absurd mess of choas but the more you observe and explore, the more you start to see that things are sorta abstract perfect imperfections. Once you see that, you start to notice and observe that these aspects of nature exists all throughout different layers of nature. That even in messy, chaotic situations, nature finds ways to to adapt and find a sort of beneficial balance. Even tho the forest floor is filled with dead things, rocks, dirt, etc. Nature finds these unique ways to convert matter into this facinating system. A system that sorta reminds me of one of the laws of thermodynamics. Where matter cannot be created or destroyed, only converted. The more you observe nature, the more you can see it really functions in facinating ways. Not everything is all rose's. The natural world is undeniably harsh in ways but it's unrealistic to expect everything to only be amazing. After moments of sadness, where i hurt from losing my grandma.. i thought about: That even tho it's overwhelming in our current perspective. It's unrealistic for us to think we could understand or know all the answers about how the universe functions. Life and death. But, aspects of how nature functions, sorta translates to different aspects of different systems in the natural world around us. No matter how harsh life might seem, no matter how meaningless some of us might feel sometimes, regardless of that feeling, Nature still finds a way to convert and utilize things. As a thought experiment I like to ponder about black holes, or why death is so prevalent around us? It might seem pretty bleak but if you look at it with the right perspective it can be seen slightly different. Death, naturally will always be something we fear & are unsure about But what really gets me is that death is something EVERY ASPECT of nature experiences at some point or another. There's no way nature would have something that happens to everything be such a wasteful useless aspect of it's system.. Who knows, maybe black holes 🕳️ might be some kind of cosmic recycling machine and if it wasn't for black holes transfering matter, that maybe natural cycles wouldn't be able to function properly? Maybe death, isn't this meaningless awful thing? Maybe it's a aspect of a natural cycle that we just can't grasp from this current perspective. A part of me likes to imagine that the cosmos finds unique ways to convert energy. When we were born, that energy that created our soul had to have come from somewhere.. What I'm trying to convey with all of this is that it's freeing to stop "needing, demanding, requiring answers" about things that are not answerable. I stumbled upon this weird peace of mind from just observing nature and how it functions all through out our cosmos. I don't know any answers but i feel like i can at least give Nature a chance to take care of me. The same way it takes care of a fallen tree on the forest floor, or a dying star that feeds the birth of new solar systems, stars and planets. We are all tied into this unique system. i prefer perceiving my life through the eyes of natures facinating ways. Over any man made concept any day.
Sometimes I create music in a DAW like Fruityloops and reverse the audio until it becomes a chaotic mess and I wonder if the chaos sounds in nature can be manipulated the other way around to create music.
Jesus was indeed at odds with his family during his ministry. Many of my fellow Christians like to overlook the scene where Jesus was in a house with many 'undesirables' and his mother said 'he is besides himself' (a phrase to mean 'possessed') and 'let us take charge of him' (meaning to establish a 'conservorship' over him in the same way Britney Spears Father did).
@@KevvoLightswift That's what I mean. There are many verses in the Bible that contradict the image of Jesus that Christianity has established. I know some Christians who have been reading the bible for decades and never heard of some new testament verses that I point out. I think their minds just blank it out as they read. Here's the verse I referenced: Pay close attention to the meaning of the phrase 'take charge of him'. Remember he was a 30 year old man and the eldest son, yet they didn't go to persuade him to not associate with those people, they even refused to go inside and instead sought to lure him out. When Jesus was told 'your mother and brothers are here' he denounced them as his family and differentiated that 'those who love me are my mother and brothers'. Meaning that at that time, Mary and her other sons did not respect Jesus. Why do you think Jesus snapped at his mother when she asked him to turn water into wine. People don't use the word 'woman' to their own mother unless they are irritated by them. Mark 3:20-21 (NIV): "Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, 'He is out of his mind.'"

By the 1200s, eastern and western Christianity had completely split apart and developed on separate but sometimes parallel trajectories. Unlike most of western Christianity, eastern Christianity has arrived in the modern day with rituals, feasting, fasting, mysticism, asceticism, and both masculine and feminine worship still intact. Due to both migration and conversion, eastern Christianity (Orthodox et al) are having increasingly large presence in the west and provides many of the thing this generation is lacking in western life. I think the coming reforms in the west will be an orientalizing of western churches in response to the growing eastern presence.
I would add the concept of education for children, women, and poor (before it was only a very few rich men) as well as hospitals (value of human life was not important before monks coming along to actually take care of people) being a huge contribution to the world from Christianity.

While I’m not an atheist (I’m a Christian myself) I think it’s tragic how many atheist refuse to see the benefits of religion, and many religious folks cannot see the boon of a secular society. Ultimately it’s a balance and I think both are necessary for a free society.

Great video. Pray everyday. Pray without ceasing. In all your actions: every thought, every consideration, every notion, feeling, or emotion - turn yourself towards God. He is there with you, always. Listen for his voice, and he will guide you. The love of Christ has been written upon your very heart, compelled by the force of His Spirit. Trust in Him; he will never leave you - even in your darkest days. You were made with a purpose. You have been given a divine ordination - made in the Lord's image, that you may be called a child of God. In your moments of doubt, remember Him. In your moments of despair, remember Him. In all your joys, follies, victories, and defeats - remember Him. He holds you in His hands, for blessed are they who seek Him. May the Grace of our Lord Jesus - who is the Christ - be with you: this day, and all the days of your life.
Loved the video including the criticisms of my religion as they are true. I will say that in my personal circle of christian men, we are beginning to fight more. In terms of coming to the conclusion that love is the most important thing in the world it’s worth remembering that 500 years before Christ Aristotle concluded that filia, brotherly love, was the real foundation of a healthy polis. Also, the Ancient Greek word for freedom was “Elutheria” which roughly translates as “to arrive at the place of love”. Also, the linguist root of the English word freedom traces back to the proto-Indo-European word for “beloved”. None of this is meant to take away from Christ’s ministry. It’s just worth noting that orthopathos (“correct passions”) and love specifically were already understood as a moral imperative in the preChristian west. What Christ taught can thus be best understood as a Hellenized interpretation of the Judaic scriptures.

I would consider myself a conservative evangelical Christian, but you mentioned in the video that Christians seem to have lost a culture of manliness and just wanted to see if you had heard of a new book that came out called "The War on Men" by Doctor Owen Strachan? I haven't read it, but I helped run the conference where he released it just recently and during his teachings he touched on a lot of the issues the book covers. It seems like this book addresses that idea you posited and was wondering what your thoughts were on it?
In the modern day masculinity is all about how many hos you can get and thats not a classic Christian interpretation of masculinity so they can go kick rocks.
I've had many arguments with my fellow Pastors who all seem to think Sunday fellowship is for tame, milquetoast teaching that appeals to the lowest common denominator. As a result, the whole of Sunday service loses it's vigor, and become another boring corporate meeting where everyone has to listen to a motivational speaker talk about why they should do more for the company. I keep telling them that if we continue to treat adult service like an extension of kids church - where all we read are happy, moralistic Bible stories akin to Aesop's Fables - then we'll continue to create immature, half baked evangelicals that make us all look like uneducated weirdo's.
I think service should be a conversation, like a Bible study, where everyone is expected to be involved in it and speak. This would inspire people to read the Bible for themselves and build a relationship with the truth from the Bible rather than just believing in the same rumors and mis interpretations that most pastors repeat over and over. Instead of telling people how and what to believe, give them the book and ask them what they think it means. If this were the case I would go to church.
To answer your question for Christians about what it would take to launch a "reformation" of Christianity: It will be something that comes out of picking up the gauntlet laid down by Christian Nationalists, such as Doug Wilson and Stephen Wolfe. Implicit in both their work is a call, among others, to what we might call a martial spirit. One of the many things that angered men of his own denomination (the PCA, which is my denomination, too) is Wolfe's chastising Christian men for being (my summation, not his word) sissies. Similar stirrings are to be found in Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy here in the US. Note: I am not saying that Christian Nationalism is the "reformation" but rather that the vitality of such a reformation will come from men and women moved by the same visceral reaction. Good work on this one, Rudyard.
From a seed of "science and religion are not mutually exclusive but two sides of the same desire to explain the universe," I've been ruminating on this premise for many years, so thank you for producing it. I recall Douglas Murray saying that atheists aren't born that way, but [western atheists typically] are specifically ex-christians and whatever humanist ideals they profess, they are distinctly judaeo-christian and based in that tradition. he also observed that no one refers to "Christendom" anymore but have substituted the euphemistic "western" or in some instances, "anglosphere." ps just to affirm to you that we listen, around 46:21 you say "Christianity produced its own descendants" when I think you meant to say "dissidents."
Judeao-Christian is an oxymoron, but it's a phrase used all the time nowadays. There is enmity between the Jew and the Christian, between Jewishness and Christianity. The Jews largely see the New Testament and Jesus Christ himself as "anti-Semitic", while Jesus told the Jews they were the Synagogue of Satan, that their father was the devil, and that they did the works of their father and did not know God. This is why they killed him. Christendom was always against the Jews, even though they tolerated them as best they could. Still, Christian nations in Europe (Europe was Christendom) always expelled their Jews eventually, as this list shows en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsions_and_exoduses_of_Jews There was no historical concept of Judeao-Christian until the 1800s, and the first time the phrase was used, it only referred to Jews who converted to Christianity. It didn't become a popular phrase until the 1930s or so, and it was a political term. The Jews found a way to corrupt the evangelical church by latching on to their interest in biblical prophecy, which is all about Israel. The Jews found that for once, there was a certain denomination of Christians who were extremely favorable toward the Jews because they felt that Israel must be restored for the (soon to come) endtime prophecies to take place. The Jews then embarked on a campaign to deceive these gullible Christians into reinterpreting the New Testament in a creative new way - a way that makes the Jews the good guys, friends of Christians, even though nothing could be further from the truth. This outstanding article from the Jerusalem Post gets into all the details www.jpost.com/opinion/no-holds-barred-is-the-new-testament-antisemitic-597774
It's because you are taught all these hard-line standards, yet when you actually read the Bible God doesn't follow or care for his own principles. We are told to love our neighbor and yet God personally kills off the populations of entire cities down to the last man women and child. If anything the principles have outgrown their creator, as he simply tells humans to follow the rules and then does as he pleases.
@@chaucermcdoogle6011 God has every right to Judge the world and people as he sees fit… and yes, he makes rules for humans that he doesn’t follow, because Humans aren’t omnipresent and omnipotent beings that uphold judgment, decide what Morality is, and created everything down to the atoms. I wonder why The Bible has stories of Flood, stories of burning sulfur, and stories about countries being destroyed by war, mostly appointed by God, often after years of warning and call to stop the wrongdoing. Perhaps because they were Evil people as it reports in the story? Bad people get bad consequences? Even if you believe it’s not true, it boils down to some of the most simple cause and effect, you do the deed and you get punished. Your clan of people have been sacrificing children to statues? You guys are getting destroyed. The point you make is coming from a view where humans and God are on the same level, when Infact for Christianity this is NOT a the case. When you actually read the Bible you see this. Imagine a judge so perfect in moral character, and a judge that was, is , and will be forever. A judge that decides what’s right and wrong. And you are being judged by him. “You judged other people, and they got rather nasty ends.” And they deserved them.

Religion is just based on superstition and myths, that’s all. On the end, to make such a video without mentioning Deschner’s “Criminal History of Christianism” is ridiculous.
As a Christian and philosophy nerd this I can attest this is 100% true. Tom Holland’s Dominion is the best book on this topic. The zeitgeist connections you make are false, these are not legitimate connections. From a historical perspective, there is no evidence Christianity took from those myths.
That ending was fantastic. The last 15-20 was pure gold content for asking THE question of our time. I've gone through my atheist phase already and I am among the first to critique the modern Christian church. Personally, I think that with the world wars killing off most of the Western "Aryan warrior spirit" and the experiment with Feminism running its due course, we've gotten away from that healthy balance of the Feminine and Masculine, like you said. The answer to this problem clearly involves bringing masculinity back into Christian and Western culture. Now I don't mean that we should start our theocracy, but rather the Church itself needs to start fully embracing the power of the male spirit. I know some people are depressed about the odds of reforming the Church, but I think that God has already provided us with the solution. Young men in the West are going through a crash course right now on gender dynamics. Yes, dating is dead for my generation, but that doesn't mean that it will be for the next. The young men of this generation are going to build the foundation of the future Church. You have to break some eggshells to get an omlette and in this manner you have to break society a little bit to understand why its valuable. Just be patient and you'll see how our generation's suffering is actually going to be the seeds for the rebirth of the Church/Western-culture. The atheist movement was quite effective for its time, but I think most of us here have come to understand that its insufficient, like what whatifalthist said in the video. In retrospect though, a lot of intelligent people have pointed out how horrible or dishonest the anti-religious arguments of the Dawkin's types really were. Like whatifalhist said in the video, the very concept of science comes from Christian values about God and reality. Yet all we heard for the last 3 decades was how silly the Christian value system was. I truly believe that given proper education of history and the Bible, people will begin to see how much sense Christian thinking really is. Of course, I also believe that the Devil is actively fighting against us and that we do live in a world full of sin and corruption, so to expect to be unapposed in rebuilding Western society would be foolish. The union of the Feminine and the Masculine is at the heart of the Church's modern issues. The science arguments have already been answered. Atheism has gone down the route of irrelevancy. Christianity needs to find out how to present a better option to the West than the "progressive"/woke types. What that is exactly I'm not 100% sure. I would need to ponder this more before giving a full example. The "redpill", bluepill and blackpill are certainly not the answers that the Church should adopt. I think they're outdated solutions that we already know the results of. Maybe after some thoughts on this I will return and post my ideas on *exactly* what the Church should do.
About dating I actually think it's good that it's dead and we should not try to resurrect it. Dating is actually a very recent phenomenon that is not Christian in origin. We need to bring match making back instead.
@@alexiakolarski Match making would be a good start. I believe churches have to start re-building parallel societies as the modern world crumbles around us, just as they did when the first Roman Empire fell. Youths should leave the big cities and start fixing up our small towns and villages. Rebuild a monastic type system to teach kids and comfortably retire the old, who can also help raise kids. Buy up or take over empty plots of land and practice regenerative agriculture. Upgrade our ethical software and teach people how to use technology for good and productive purposes. Christians have to actually fill in those gaps the world desperately needs. The warrior spirit, the mysticism, the legends of lore, all that will return when people start to get real.
This is genuinely interesting. I am a Muslim so most of my view of the world and principle/morality came from Islam. Hearing other view is quite an experience in itself and I do think all religion played a huge role becoming a guide for humanity one way or another. I do wonder that can humanity really escape from religion (just my nugget of thought).
I sympathize with Muslim brothers because we worship the same Father but the idea that God came down in a body and died for us is a huge barrier but how else could God sacrifice and die for us if he didn't come as a man? The spirit of God cannot die and so the Father/Aba/Allah could not show love and sacrifice for his children if he didn't come down. Not trying to preach but I'm compelled to share this truth
@iwatchyoutube4179 Could you provide a good channel or video where I can learn more about the Islamic principles and morality? I'd be interested to see the similarities and differences.
That's mostly cause its propped up by the usa, they are even forced to abide by 1940's USA Law funny enough reason for why gay marriage is banned there. So even they are tied to Christianity in a way.
I was just reading a passage in the Book of Mormon, that was talking about how in our time, preachers will deny the God of Miracles. They will say, God has done his work, there is no more, now we just live our lives. The point being made was that the true church of Christ needs miracles, needs faith, needs revelation and prophets. That kind of goes along with what you are saying about Christianity needing that esoteric and transcendant quality that it once had. There was a Mormon leader who said that laughter is of God, because when he laughed purely, he felt the spirit of God. And Mormons believe in having dances and parties, but also in morals. There are things like addictions that dull our spiritual sensitivity. People online even talk about how things like Porn, drugs, alcohol, etc. don't make them happy but actually make them miserable. But you need something to replace that lifestyle. We all have a hole in our hearts that we are trying to fill. The concept of a loving God who wants us to succeed is meaningful. And in these times, we need something greater than ourselves to hold onto.
@@konnorporter5115lots of respect for orthodoxy, but I just find it weird that you haven't had any ecumenical councils since the separation with the Catholic church, while they have.
@@konnorporter5115also, that different orthodox sects aren't in communion with each other (ie the russian orthodox church not in communion with some of the other orthodox churches)
Many of the flaws of Christianity you mentioned past 42:35 are also very present in my faith, Mormonism, at least in my local area. I had to sit through yet another boring (in the strongest possible terms) Sunday school lesson today, and these criticisms rang very true. Buzzkills run the congregations, giving dry, unengaging sermons and lessons that consist of "Jesus loves you" and "what have YOU learned this week," and when someone points out how boring and lazy these lessons are, they are shamed and told THEY are doing something wrong and the teachers are excused for just being "in a rush" and/or "stressed," even after the tenth time they've done this. Many Mormons (mainly women) post "inspirational" quotes online to show off just how faithful they are. At every General Conference the same exact messages are given over and over, but when this is pointed out you are told to just "pray for revelation" or "be in tune with the Spirit." My Church, overall, selects for ultra-conformists in leadership who don't try anything new and give the same messages every week. All this to say, I feel frustrated by all the untapped doctrine, stories and mythology of Mormonism and Christianity that the leadership simply doesn't draw on, instead opting to say things like "I just want you to know how much God loves you" and "you are oh so special in the eyes of God." I'm aware this is a huge problem in mainline Christianity as well, and many Christians, mainly of a Protestant persuasion, have the same or worse issues. I've also been trying to start on remedying some of these problems, but since you can't just volunteer and have to wait for the congregation's leaders to give you a calling (if they even give you one), it's really hard to even start fixing these things. Like you said at the end, we need a Reformation to truly fix these problems, and I hope I can play a role in that for my church.
What you see as missing is the WORK. And it may be the fault of the teacher, but we all share responsibility for this. In the tedium of the routine and ritual, we can find the sublime. This requires a connectedness to the spirit that is not easy. Why do you think the temple ordinances are repetitive? There is design in it. It is a meditation. When you listen with your whole attention, you learn to hear the voice of God. Don't be afraid of the boring.
We've gotta quit "marketing" and get back to DOING what we profess to believe. (BTW, I'm sure that if you want to volunteer in my branch, our president would be happy to extend a calling in short order, lol!)
mormonism is false. There is absolutely zero archeological evidence for anything that supposedly took place in north america in the book of mormon. The Bible says that there were no gods before God and neither shall there be after but mormonism claims that there have been gods before God. Mormonism claims that God was just a man like us. Mormonism claims that we can become gods. Mormonism claims that the bible has been corrupted but the bible is the most well preserved set of documents from the ancient world with the most numerous amount of manuscripts. If you want to really challenge your faith i recommend looking up the channel Expedition Bible and watching his video on mormonism. Joseph Smith fails the biblical test of a prophet

"Christianity doesn't need youth counselors, it needs another reformation to survive." That was incredibly based. I haven't heard one sentence hit that hard in forever. And that's coming from a Christian, although I'm non-denominational and disagree with a lot of what modern denominations teach.
Too many fellow Christian are so against being wrong. But that is the beauty of Christianity, we are wrong and thats okay. God loves us no matter, We just need to push and strive to be better!

@@NeilOB9 the Catholic Church says a lot of things, especially this pope. I've read into it a bit (a couple modest books, not wikipedia) and while there are good arguments all around, the accusations seem to me to be more likely to be true than not. Ultimately, though, neither of us will probably ever know. I think they get a lot of sympathy because their confessions were tortured out of them, which is obviously not a legitimate way to get a confession and the sympathy is well deserved. That being said, dozens of templars from across the breadth of Europe, made identical confessions on the same days, without having the opportunity to confer with one another. This, I think, is my most compelling anecdote. Also, there are many books written by high degree freemasons publically available which express their conviction that the accusations were also true. At any rate, today is only unlucky for Templars and perhaps freasons, but not most of us
Well, that was a shitty video, wasn’t it? Some of the massive mistakes it makes: -We have no trustable source which can prove that either Nero or Caligula were cruel or incompetent. All we know about them was written long after their deaths from non objective writers. Nevertheless, we know for sure that Nero was fan of music and poetry, and was named emperor against his will. -There’s a reason for the best philosophers to be Greek: Early Catholicism wiped out all of it since everything you need to know is in the Bible and to want to know or discover something beyond it is a sin. Therefore, christianism promotes ignorance and always did. -Message of Jesus was kinda obvious and there was little to nothing innovative about it. He didn’t say (or even suggested) that women should work, or that gays should be left alone. He didn’t either condemn slavery openedly, since “all men are equal in the eyes of God” is a blurry sentence which can be interpreted in many different ways. -The only two things he said which really changed the world is that there is only one God and that all your daily actions should be based on Him. And you could make the case that there’s nothing positive about it. -Greedyness of Catholic Church played a major role in Rome’s fall. -Christianism has never allowed any kind of self criticism. Could you do a video on how the big 3 denominations (Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox) influence their respective societies? I know you did one on Orthodoxy, but a Catholic vs Protestant civilization video would be interesting
Rudyard, I think that you're giving a very rational account of Christianity which is both kind and true, and that your appreciation of its contributions is refreshing. Yet there are a few points which I think must be addressed in order to fill in the picture here. And I don't know if I can do it justice, since it's a highly subjective topic. But the way you look at it is from the outside in, from a set of presumptions which lay outside the true Christian viewpoint, and so are kind of missing the forest for the trees. The first of your presumption seems to be that none of it is really true, except psychologically. And that Jesus sort of originated a psychological system that synthesiszed the most successful parts of previous systems, and that it took hold in the marketplace of ideas because it offered a succesful survival value by allowing its believers to obtain a series of growth advantages within their societies, or something like that. And I think the problem is that you don't give any time to how the Church sees itself and its explanations for things as a sort of basis for comparison to your analysis. I won't go into that because I'm not an authority and this isn't the right venue. But I think that if you want to make a deeper historical case about the role the Church has had, you need to get inside its head and try to think like it thinks, and then step back out and have your opinions. Because without knowing what the Church really was saying to itself about itself and about the world it lived in, your theories lack the kind of comprehension which would give them true gravitas. So, as a suggestion, I think you owe the subject the time it takes to get down to the psychological reality such as it really was within the body of believers during the most important formative period, which can only be done by reading more about patristics and theology. Then you could have a more educated view about the way that psychology impacted the historical process. If this takes you one step closer to affirming the things believed by the Church, then so be it. But in so doing you bypass the many dead end side tracks of heretical cultism, and learn the history of the Christological debate and its rational merits. There is this RUclipsr named Seraphim Hamilton who gives the best rational apologetics for the Orthodox Catholic Christianity of the undivided early Church. If you learn the actual dogmas as they were defined by the several Church Councils, all convened to deal with historical controversies that arose around the way people reasoned about God, then you will gain a much better idea of what distinctions exist in historical Christian thought and how they impacted social and intellectual life. Otherwise, without a detailed understanding I'm afraid that your narratives seem too modern in that they fall short of being able to relate at all to what they were really thinking back then, instead substituing educated guesses from third hand accounts, which are rather off the mark by a mile.
youve made every single video in the past few years, and still havent really scratched the balkans come on, its about time to get dirty with this powder keg, mixed with all three abrahamic religions and of course, huge thanks for all the work you put into this, youve changed my life and how i see the world, just cant wait for the actual balkan video
To be fair, actual historical Jesus Christ was likely a rabbi of the Pharisees faction. Rabbis of that time period were not only priests but also lawyers, teachers, judges, academics and politicians. He was not at all lower-class, more like upper-middle class - he was from a very influential group of people but was not a landlord, merchant or of noble blood. Carpentry was likely a second job for him, as it was common for rabbi of the time to know a second craft as they needed to earn money when there was no teaching, lawyering or politicking in town.
@@catnappernellie1211 Simply on his teachings. He preached what many Pharisees rabbis believed and did it like a Pharisee too. The Bible also recounts how he interacted with other Pharisees, like Luke 2:41-52 places adolescent Jesus in the temple among teachers, one of whom is believed to be Hillel the Elder, one of the leaders of the Pharisees. Jesus also was fluent in Greek and Hebrew, in addiction to the common lingua franca of the time - Aramaic, which suggest a formal education of a rabbi. Other parties would simply not fit either. Sadducees were from the landed aristocracy and the warrior class of Judea, they saw Judaism as a more traditional Middle East faith - less religious and scholarly, more political and clan-based, more similar to the paganism of Babylon and Egypt then to the Rabbinic Judaism we know today. Zealots were the actual Taliban of ancient Judea - militant and mystical, wheras Jesus was peaceful and well-educated. And the Essenes were too ascetic and community-focused to have ever produce an individualist thinker like Jesus.
While you are correct in your assumption Jesus 's teaching aligned with the Pharisees, he did associate with Essenes (probably his cousin John and the owner of the "upper room") and one of his Apostles was a Zealot. Also the Pharisees were not priests, nor judges and they were the most populated sect at that time. The Judges were mostly Sadducees and the priests were Levites (not the same category. His upbringing was as a laborer, carpenter is just a translation but more accurate term is physical laborer (stone cutter, house builder, carpenter) and his upbringing certainly attest to his poor status, namely his parents' atonement sacrifice for him of two pigeons (a poor man's sacrifice) Last Rabbi just means teacher. It is a title of a person you listen too. It is not an occupation like it is today. The modern rabbinic Judaism is not the same as ancient Judaism, even within the Pharesetical sect. So a learned man walking around giving life advice with a few hundred people following is a teacher.
The idea that Mithras birthday was on the 25th is myth, Much about the cult of Mithras is only known from reliefs and sculptures. as per the wikipedia page. any similarities to christianity are probably copies rather than the other way around. note that the date of Christ birth is also a later accretion to the faith and pretty much arbitralrily chosen
I actually agree with you're take on some of the falls with modern Christianity. I attend a more progressive mainline church; however, a couple years ago I became more evangelical. I became more and more interested in joining the conservative (evangelical) branch of my denomination. However, I recently got into a movement started by a Christian in my denomination (Redeemed Zoomer) who convinced me to stay in my church/denomination. I think one big problem you didn't mention: is American Christianity specifically evangelicals and fundamentalists' Christians. I think it would be vital to distinguish Christianity from the rest of society, the problem with conservative Christians in America is beside on moral issues they really are any different from most secular Americans, this is a mistake. For my fellow Christians: we shouldn't be content with following the culture as long as they don't contradict the rules of our faith, we need to be lights to the rest of the world. Go out and reclaim the institutions of our forefathers that were built by Christians, retake our heritage. I will try and do my part, I hope and pray for us to hold steadfast to the faith.
I think you're on to something here, but I think there's more to it. Conservative fundamentalist Christianity has contributed to the decline of the faith in the West just as much as the jellyfish progressive Christianity without Christ in it because of the influence of a 19th century systematic theology called dispensationalism. Dispensationalism has ultimately produced a lot of Christians too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good because of a false defeatist mindset that says that the church will ultimately fail in winning the world to Christ, that the world is destined to just get worse and worse (culminating in a hell on earth literal 7 years tribulation period), and that true believers should remove themselves from wider society, hide in the comfort and safety of our little echo chambers while the world around us goes to hell in a hand basket, and wait until Christ beams us out in a secret rapture that nobody prior to the 19th century believed was even a thing. The Redeemed Zoomer (an excellent creator imo) has talked about how the fundamentalist evangelicals cut themselves off from the mainline churches to form their own, and dispensationalist thought plays a huge role in why this happened in the first place. I think he has a video on it, but I don't think he dig too deeply amd might not fully appreciate how it caused a lot of the problems he's phsbing against by calling people to retake the institutions and mainline churches. I came from this school of thought. I love my family and the community I came from, and they are slowly improving (and thankfully, dispensationalism has heen dying in popularity over the last decade or two), but the more I've learned, the more I hate this philosophy that has produced a lot of doctrinal problems (and birderline heresies) and a negligence of our Christian duty to be the emissaries of Christ through our influence in wider society.
The youth meetup at my church is always one of the highlights of my week, I wish that christianity can make more peoples lifes better too. To me the end of this video is very inspirational. We have to be creative to get people speaking about god. We will come through...
32:16 i think you meant anti-Suffraget movement? Because the sufraggetes were The opposite, it was occultist/satanist. Read Rachel Wilson's book on the topic: Occult Feminism. The anti-suffragetes were christians.
22:47 - Interestingly, the Romans viewed the Jews as backwards due to the Jews practicing polygamy. Christianity culturally appropriated the theory of monogamy from the Romans, combined it with the Judaism's strict prohibition against adultery, and put it into practice.
And they took the aggressive homophobia and gender roles from the jews and romans while also leaving room for androgynous characteristics in Jesus himself to appear more universal.
@@shelbyspeaks3287 Homophobia was the norm throughout most cultures. Those who say "I'm not homophobic, because I'm not afraid of homosexuals." don't realize that "phobia" can also mean "aversion to" (e.g. hydrophobic molecules). Homosexuality, much like left-handedness, comes with its own challenges and comorbidities. For left-handedness, most technologies are designed for righties. Lefties also suffer from a higher rate of certain mental illnesses that are probably the result of brain development rather than simply being society's fault. Ditto for homosexuals. Interestingly, an unusually high percentage of U.S. presidents are left-handed. For homosexuality, the human sex organs did not evolve for this purpose - it's an emergent phenomenon. That doesn't make it wrong. Regardless of whether it's man/man or man/woman, the anal route poses a much higher risk of contracting STD's - way more than sharing needles. Today, it's HIV, while in ancient times, it was probably syphilis. Female homosexual sex, on the other hand, is "cleaner" than even heterosexual sex. Interestingly, while any type of sex outside marriage was considered wrong, it was male homosexuality that was specified as a capital offense in the Hebrew Bible. I would imagine a strong taboo around homosexuality means that while fewer people will practice it, a higher percentage of those who do practice it openly will be people who don't care about being branded freaks. This, in turn, would include a crop of sociopaths, libertines, and exhibitionists who tarnish the reputation of homosexuality as a concept. Differences in brain development might account for some of this too. Traditional marriage for homosexuals is a fairly new concept, and it'll be interesting to see how it works out in the long run. I would like to see a society which tolerates homosexuality, but does not tolerate exhibitionism or promiscuity, whether straight or gay. These things offend my conscience at a deep, instinctive level. That's probably no accident - they are unsanitary and create bad developmental environments for children (or none at all). Gender roles were invented by over 500 million years of evolution, regardless of what a creationist will tell you. As smart as we are, we apes can't escape our own mammalhood, and it would be foolish to even try. Now, could you explain how Jesus was androgynous? I read all the gospels, and didn't really get that idea.
What a great video. Please continue this series with maybe other religions or spirituality I would be thrilled to hear your thoughts about those topics further

Our society tends to think that it's so smart when in reality it's looking way more ignorant as time goes by. Thank you for the video and I look forward to the videos you say your going to make.
As much as I enjoyed Dominion, Tom Holland drew heavily from the work & thesis that Rodney Stark (RIP) spent his professional career exploring in depth. It's a grave disservice that Rodney Stark isn't more well-know. Read For the Glory of God, Rise of Christianity, Triumph of Christianity, How the West Won, & Victory of Reason. Those together will be a much more thorough exploration of the subject.
TLDR: Practicing Christians have more fun and are stronger than non-Christians, because they avoid sinning and all the heartache and problems involved with sin, and they imitate the love of Christ. I'm an Orthodox Christian. In our tradition, every day is a feast day for several saints. I love reading saints' lives, and when the feast day of one comes whom I particularly love, it's like celebrating their birthday (so to say, that's how it feels -- the saints become dearly beloved friends). Also, the festal season of Pascha (Easter) lasts until Pentecost (some 40 or 50 days later, idr). Christmas also lasts for 12 days... it's the one day, plus more in which we continue to sing hymns dedicated to the Lord's birth, etc. I can't speak for other Christian denominations, but Orthodoxy, while it does place an emphasis on self-control, attempting to not sin, etc, it also doesn't demonize you if you do sin, and there isn't any punishment except for what you do to yourself -- which can sometimes be plenty punishment -- and then the natural consequences of your actions. It's more like, sometimes, you may get a penance to act as medicine to help you get back on track, and this is very personalized (the priest may participate in the penance, too, that is, he may do it with the penitent), and a penance is helpful, too, especially if you want to follow Christ -- otherwise, stop calling yourself a Christian and go do whatever you want to do. And to say there's no fun... I don't know. It's so freeing to not be gripped by the passions. When I feel lust, for example, I want no part of it because it really makes me feel sick, and I hate my thoughts and actions when I'm in the grip of lust because I know that that's not really me. But who says Christians can't have fun? Don't sin, but do what Christ tells you to do... that may be paragliding with your son who has never done it before and really wants to try it out, but just needs his parent's support. Christianity is about love, loving others more than you love yourself. It's not about adhering to a strict moral code. Legalism has no place in a Christian's heart. Anyway, I understand criticism of Christianity from the outside, but I also know that non-Christians don't fully understand Christianity, either. I was everything but Christian until I was 33, so I get it. I've only been in the Church for 6 years, so I'm hardly an authority on this way of life (calling it a religion is actually a denigration of what Christianity really is), and I don't really understand it myself, but it's more true and real than anything I've ever experienced before. There's no way I'd ever go back to being non-Christian. Anyway, thank you for this interesting video. And forgive my long-winded comment... you said something about how Christians don't have fun, and also Christianity's supposed lack of strength... let me make one more comment on this point -- I highly recommend that you read the story about the nuns of Shamordino. I could say more, but this is too many words as it is. Thank you, and God bless you and your work.

I wonder how Spider-Man finds the time to be a historian of such caliber.

Interesting that you mentioned how Christianity broke down clan and family structure. One of my favorite YT channels, Kraut, made a video about a year ago talking about this very thing. For those curious, it’s called “How Christianity destroyed the tribal family”
Nuclear > Tribal
Rare kraut W
The destruction of tribal family is of utmost importance.
Because in a tribal family, the clan patriarch is basically treated as God. He is always right. All moral authority within the family come from him. And when a sinful man is worshipped as God, all sorts of horrible things happen.
Tribalism is horrendous that's why Christianity tries to let people out of that negative way of thinking

As a Christian, this video was way better than I expected. Also, that “masculine” portion of Christianity that is often missed is simply the Old Testament. So often ignored ,but so fundamentally vital.
Yes
@@TravisJones812 awesome comment

Constantine did not technically declare Christianity to be the official religion of the Roman empire.
Also, as a side note, the Empire favored the Arian over the Nicene Christians initially.
This is a basic mistake I'm surprised he made it.

@@imperatorscotorum6334 Belief can't be forced. I have doubts that any religion is "the" right religion, but what we are seeing is a degradation of the Christian ethics that formed society. Christianity is so woven into our culture and really made the greatness of what we are, and yet it’s being turned on. Funny
God Bless.
As a fellow Catholic and history nerd, I’m not too worried. I figured we can just wait until the next Pope, as stuff like this is nothing new
As a 19 year old, I’m glad I’m not the only young guy trying to look for saneness in a insane world.

Impossible for mortals.

2 things:
1. Christianity is only declining because of a. Too few fathers, b. People are becoming more honest, and those who don't truly believe aren't pretending anymore

Well, that was a shitty video, wasn’t it? Some of the massive mistakes it makes:
-We have no trustable source which can prove that either Nero or Caligula were cruel or incompetent.
Never. The consequences of this toxic, narcissistic approach led to Martin Luther, Protestantism and bloody religious wars.
-Most of the invents of Christian countries during the Middle Ages appeared really slowly compared to Ancient Greek, Rome and Egypt, specially considering that Middle Ages era lasted about 1.000 years.
-Interestingly enough, what took us away from this braindead mode was Illustration period and its anti-church approach which would lead us to Modern Industry, French Revolution, and Workers’ rights.
-Middle Ages was an extremely cruel period since Feudal Kings used continuously its peasant as cannon fodder. And again: this lasted thousand years.
-“Communism was an atheist ideology which killed millions. Therefore, atheism is bad”. That’s as ridiculous as saying “black people like Oj Simpson we’re murderers, therefore, all black people are murderers.
-Christianism, like most of religions, promotes brainwashing and extreme submission because only with these things you can make it successful, since it has no real useful value because... no religion has. Religion is just based on superstition and myths, that’s all.
-Church helped the poor against nobility???? It was exactly the opposite!!! Church has remained in power so long by using extreme corruption with the nobility as ally!!!

______
The message of Christianity has always been that we are worldly, carnal, sinful animals that should aspire to enter the kingdom of God - a place that is unlike the world around us in every way.
If we were to act just like Christ, we'd all be crucified by the angry mob (or some other untimely end.)
Thus, the most you can realistically expect from any Christian is for them to try their best to live up to a higher standard, only for them to often fail. (That's why it's integral to Christian belief that God expects everything from us, yet he's willing to forgive us when we ultimately disappoint him.)
As a non-christian I see this as an absolute win

@philosopherslegacy1983 The morals and values of true Christianity are important for our society to thrive, and come back out of this hole of woke ideological state.
From GK Chesterton’s “Orthodoxy”, the last paragraph in the chapter “The paradoxes of Christianity”. (One of my favourite books. This paragraph is a bit long for this setting but paints a poignant picture and ends in a flourish)
“This is the thrilling romance of Orthodoxy.

The strange thing is, christianity managed to recreate its efficient, cohesive structure even in non European societies.. India had a small number of Syrian Christians in the southern state of Kerala, since 50 AD.. these legacy christians are the richest and the most educated community in the state to this day.. They are also far more disciplined and cohesive, compared to the Hindus they live amongst..
Most Christians in India from North to South perform very nicely in socio-economic indicators

The Roman Empire's strangest colony was *Ancient Israel.* The God of Israel was completely unique and unchanging. While all the idols of the Roman Empire were constantly shifting, morphing, and changing into something else, the God of Israel was the same yesterday, today, and forever. In Malachi 3:6 He said "I am the LORD, and I do not change."
Historians have shown us that getting drunk was very popular and encouraged in the ancient world.

There is a really good book that I would recommend called 'One Heartbeat Away' by Mark Cahill. Worth a read.
Which book was that? Don't recall that in the New Testament.
I love it when ~2,000 year old Greek texts reference Britney Spears.

@@KevvoLightswift That's what I mean. There are many verses in the Bible that contradict the image of Jesus that Christianity has established. I know some Christians who have been reading the bible for decades and never heard of some new testament verses that I point out. I think their minds just blank it out as they read.
Here's the verse I referenced:
Pay close attention to the meaning of the phrase 'take charge of him'.
Mark 3:20-21 (NIV):
"Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.

To be honest, the Catholic churches still do a lot of the rituals, feast days, etc. It is more so the protestant churches that are declining.
You are right. I’m Jewish but converted to Eastern Orthodoxy
I would add the concept of education for children, women, and poor (before it was only a very few rich men) as well as hospitals (value of human life was not important before monks coming along to actually take care of people) being a huge contribution to the world from Christianity.

Hello, just a question, this youtuber has put so many books as sources in his bibliography, do you really believe he read them all?
Yeah bc you’re probably at low church ceremonies.
I recall Douglas Murray saying that atheists aren't born that way, but [western atheists typically] are specifically ex-christians and whatever humanist ideals they profess, they are distinctly judaeo-christian and based in that tradition. he also observed that no one refers to "Christendom" anymore but have substituted the euphemistic "western" or in some instances, "anglosphere."
ps just to affirm to you that we listen, around 46:21 you say "Christianity produced its own descendants" when I think you meant to say "dissidents."
Still, Christian nations in Europe (Europe was Christendom) always expelled their Jews eventually, as this list shows en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsions_and_exoduses_of_Jews
There was no historical concept of Judeao-Christian until the 1800s, and the first time the phrase was used, it only referred to Jews who converted to Christianity.
@@chaucermcdoogle6011
God has every right to Judge the world and people as he sees fit… and yes, he makes rules for humans that he doesn’t follow, because Humans aren’t omnipresent and omnipotent beings that uphold judgment, decide what Morality is, and created everything down to the atoms.
Even if you believe it’s not true, it boils down to some of the most simple cause and effect,
you do the deed and you get punished.
“You judged other people, and they got rather nasty ends.”
And they deserved them.
@@chaucermcdoogle6011If YOU had read the Bible then you would understand the Lord is Extremely consistent in his values and methods, and only performs extreme actions in the face of extreme situations. @WhatIfAltHist: Your absolute best video to date!
Rudyard, you’re getting pretty good at this, and that philosophy/life-view is nicely coming into focus!
Well, that was a shitty video, wasn’t it? Some of the massive mistakes it makes:
-We have no trustable source which can prove that either Nero or Caligula were cruel or incompetent.
-Interestfully enough, what took us away from this braindead mode was Illustration period and its anti-church approach which would lead us to Modern Industry, French Revolution, and Workers’ rights.
-Middle Ages was an extremely cruel period since Feudal Kings used continuously its peasant as cannon fodder. And again: this lasted thousand years.
-Christianism, like most of religions, promotes brainwashing and extreme submission because only with these things you can make it successful, since it has no real useful value because... no religion has. Religion is just based on superstition and myths, that’s all.
Christ you people are morons
men kept women under their control for thousands of years and the minute we gave them freedom they stabbed western civilization in the back.

The Orthodox church, which has remained the same for 2000 years, has miracles up to this day and has never lost its transcendent quality.

Yeah I’ve noticed this too. I hope the leaders will learn to be a bit more assertive haha
I hope you find Christianity, but Mormons are usually moral people,
mormonism is false.
4:21 Dude, I literally bought Dominion for my dad on his birthday.
We're both atheists, but I thought it'd be an interesting read.
Could you do a video on how the big 3 denominations (Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox) influence their respective societies? I know you did one on Orthodoxy, but a Catholic vs Protestant civilization video would be interesting
Orthodoxy is not a denomination. It's the trunk.

Coming from a small town like Nazareth? Perhaps he served his local synagogue but a Pharisee? What did you base that off of?
Nah the Pharisees were dickheads Jesus hated dickheadery
While you are correct in your assumption Jesus 's teaching aligned with the Pharisees, he did associate with Essenes (probably his cousin John and the owner of the "upper room") and one of his Apostles was a Zealot. Also the Pharisees were not priests, nor judges and they were the most populated sect at that time. The Judges were mostly Sadducees and the priests were Levites (not the same category. His upbringing was as a laborer, carpenter is just a translation but more accurate term is physical laborer (stone cutter, house builder, carpenter) and his upbringing certainly attest to his poor status, namely his parents' atonement sacrifice for him of two pigeons (a poor man's sacrifice)
Last Rabbi just means teacher.
Redeemed Zoomer, I also watch his videos, he is a nice guy
Looks up 'Spencer Smith' on here for an interesting take.
Redeemed zoomed is my fav Protestant lol! His reconquista strategy is great
The youth meetup at my church is always one of the highlights of my week, I wish that christianity can make more peoples lifes better too.
To me the end of this video is very inspirational. We have to be creative to get people speaking about god. We will come through...
Rudyard been cracking em out this week. Good on you bro, I'm here for it.
I didn't even watched the video yet but i must say that it is a work of art.
32:16 i think you meant anti-Suffraget movement? Because the sufraggetes were The opposite, it was occultist/satanist. Read Rachel Wilson's book on the topic: Occult Feminism.
The anti-suffragetes were christians.
Good catch!
22:47 - Interestingly, the Romans viewed the Jews as backwards due to the Jews practicing polygamy. Christianity culturally appropriated the theory of monogamy from the Romans, combined it with the Judaism's strict prohibition against adultery, and put it into practice.
And they took the aggressive homophobia and gender roles from the jews and romans while also leaving room for androgynous characteristics in Jesus himself to appear more universal.
at roman times Jews were no longer practicing polygamy.
First temple Judaism and Second temple Judaism are in many ways 2 separate cultures.
Please continue this series with maybe other religions or spirituality
I would be thrilled to hear your thoughts about those topics further
Well, that was a shitty video, wasn’t it? Some of the massive mistakes it makes:
-We have no trustable source which can prove that either Nero or Caligula were cruel or incompetent.
On the end, to make such a video without mentioning Deschner’s “Criminal History of Christianism” is ridiculous.
Your point about science collapsing after 2-3 generations of De-Christianization, you can readily see this as Feminist/Woke irrationality gradually smothers the pursuit of truth. The pursuit of truth becomes too "hurtful" as universities become Safe-Spaces and topics become off limits.
This was one of the best videos that I've heard on Christianity in a while. Thank you. I believe that you are correct and it just needs to be accepted.
Most people probably don't have time to read all 5 of those books unless they have a professional interest in the matter.
