Check out the Seymour Duncan Vise Grip! Capable of everything from barely-perceptible to full-on-lock-down, the Blend control is the cool feature that allows you to dial-in the perfect amount of compression. 18V operation allows for even more clean headroom, but the Vise Grip can do its thing at 9V as well. I really like the transparency, versatility, and intuitive-operation of this pedal; it does a lot but it's easy to get what you want. Clean or distorted, a compressor is an invaluable part of my signal-chain and the Vise Grip does whatever I need it to. Thanks for watching!

This is the best compressor pedal I have seen yet. It's like a philosopher's tone only cheaper.
Gads zooks your good. Every time I watch one of your reviews I see you do a little something I haven't Chicken pick for this episode! It was great. Yeah the pedal looks like a good one too.
greatvanzinni So much for my typing ability!
Thanks greatvanzinni, I appreciate the compliment. It’s also nice to know that you’re watching a lot of my videos, at least most of the way through, haha! The aforementioned chickin’ pickin’ is toward the end of the video. I hope you’re getting some info from them that you can use! - Don Carr
How would this pedal compare to a dbx 166xl rack compressor? just wanting to buy one of these two and im debating if i should go rack or pedal depending on the sound quality
Will this work well with the Fender Mustang 1 amp / Champion 40 or would that be just a bit "overkill" for these amps???
so this goes in the front of the amp? kinda wanted to use this in the loop any thoughts?
I see, you may use it at 9 volt till 18 volts……is there any diverence in sound?
does that blend function works as a parallel compression?
Hallo Don
Can I use this pedal for slide or lap steel playing?
this looks good, but I have had several compressor pedals, and I always end up ripping them of my board to cut throughout the live mix - they always seem to soften the signal too much for me, even at a lower setting - is there a comp pedal that can cut through the mix nice and clear, because I do love the effect. thanks
Bob Mac did you try the Xotic effects SP?
I only have one question:if the sustain knob affects ratio what happens when i hsve both a ratio and a sustwin knob in a compressor? I was trying to choose between the vise grip and the warden by earthquaker. I just don't understand what does the sustain knob actually do in a pedal
Times passed but i thought id answer your question incase it helps. Very often the case is the compression/sustain knob will be just lowering the threshold on many units (boss, ross, dyna comp). So more of the signal is getting compressed at a fixed ratio. With this one the sustain knob is also increasing the ratio. This is a fine compromise in most cases. The exception might be were you want to set a high ratio that is only triggered by peaks (limiting) or if you wanted to slightly smooth out the whole of a signal using a low ratio. These are rare cases in the guitar world and its worth the comprimise for making it work in a reasonable enclosure size i think.
chicken pickin- never heard that..lol
