Few key things to note about the 6L chimera sling, are: 1) it has a certain heavy mass to it (compared to lighter feeling slings like the Bellroy Lite/Venture slings or Alpaka XPAC V21/42 slings) due to the thicker and more heavy-durable material behind the eco-tanned leather. 2) shoulder padding on the strap is non-moveable so you need to detach and re-attach the strap with the anchor points whenever necessary (believe this was covered in the video or in other comments). 3) due to material being relatively thicker, the main carnivorous compartment is restricted in terms of space compared to Bellroy’s normal Lite 7L or Venture 6L/9L sling bags. So if you have a longer umbrella or a thicker water bottle, space might be an issue when you fit everything else with them. 4) the chimera sling DOES NOT fit an iPad Pro, iPad Air (2022) - I tried to fit my iPad Air with the Magic Keyboard but it couldn’t go fully in to be zipped.
Got the Chimera sling from Huckberry. Two things I dislike: the branding on the front and the strap. I got rid of the branding by using a dryer and tape to lift it off. The fixed pad on the shoulder strap is a problem depending on how the sling is worn. I don't always wear a sling on my back and with this Chimera if I don't do that the pad does not stay on my shoulder. I took it off and put on a Tom Bihn shoulder strap with a pad that moves. Otherwise, I like the internal pockets. BTW, I think you missed the hidden pocket for an air tag.
I was on the fence about keeping my Chimera, but seeing how you can store both your pocket 3 and X100vi has changed my mind to keep it- thanks for the great video!
Defy is the absolute winner here for me. It is amazing in use and is my go-to. It may just be me, but the Chimera just doesn’t appeal to me aesthetically, and the zips are such a let down. They bind up in use when pulling the zipper pulls like the angle is wrong or something (especially that front pocket zip), and you can even see in the video that they don’t open wide enough to provide full access to the interior. Zips so often make or break a bag and unfortunately they break the Chimera. Love the channel JB and I’ll be interested to hear if over time you get frustrated by the Chimera zips!
Does it fit the 11" iPad Pro with the magic keyboard? I also had this question! The sling checks almost all of my boxes just waiting to know this to pull the trigger 😬
Yo, why do bag makers use fancy materials like Vx and Cordura for the outside, but then skimp out and use cheap, stretchy stuff on the inside? That stuff wears out so easily and is a pain and expensive to fix/repair?
I got the big boi Defy Insidious (I'm a bigger guy, plus the big one just is more comfortable than the jr) in Dyneema, since I think the normal one is too heavy. Its great, it probably has the greatest strap on any bag I own. Its a little light on internal organization (they need to take a page out of the Kargo Loculus's book), but its more for the pouch type of user. Chimera I looked at, but seemed too heavy too for its size. I have a normal venture 6L and its my fave sing of that medium size, maybe the largest I'd go to wear full time on the front, bigger slings tend to do better on the back when not accessed.
Great vid. I’ve been on the Defy website more often recently. I have the coyote wax canvas in my cart (hope it’s still there) but iffy if it will survive our incoming 110-115 degree weather. ☠️
I’m neither small nor weak but I find these larger slings very uncomfortable. I can wear almost any backpack all day with ease no matter how much they weigh but I find that I’m constantly adjusting slings. I realize that my view of slings is subjective but the larger ones just look silly to me. Other than that, Mrs Lincoln, nice work and great energy.
@@JBOutside1 no worries great review. I just feel if it was a collab with toilet paper and they made it orange some fools would go nuts over it and it would be sold out in an hour. I feel many youtubers just go along with anything Carryology does lately.
A lot of people like the bellroy sling it's based on. It's personal. I had the normal bellroy version and sold it. I really couldn't find a use case in which I liked it. I didn't see anything on the chimera that would change that. Well after I got back on my chair after seeing the price.
@@DaemonViews I just picked up a 9L Bellroy for $89 US brand new. Great bag. But I laugh at people who pay 3-4 times as much because it’s a carryology collab. I honestly don’t get it because it’s absolutely bs that the materials are that much more. The truth is they make about 35-45% profit from each bag. That’s impressive but the little bag nerds get all excited and almost blow their load all because it’s Carryology and has orange inside. Seriously people.
I have defy insidious Jr for almost 3 years. The buckles are rusting with color fading, and I don't have the option to remove them for maintenance. wide shoulder sling performs and comfort level as good as those normal slings. These are just some of the deal breakers. Don't buy Defy Insidious Jr., it's expensive for the benefits and advantages it provides. Look somewhere else.

DOH!! I totally missed that AirTag pocket. Great catch!!
Hello! Just want to ask, do you have any pictures of your Chimera without the branding on the front?
@@deracine9466 I don’t at the moment. Unfortunately I’m on a trip and won’t be home for a few days

Great to hear Ryan!
Does that Defy pack bigger than 6L? It just dwarfs the others and I find it hard to believe it’s the same volume as the Chimera.
Actually the dimensions rough out to 6.5L so maybe a little but I admit that side-by-side it feels bigger.

Good points for sure and I’ll be interested too to see how the bag wears over time
But, will the Chimera hold an 11” iPad Pro inside and have the zipper shut? Haven’t seen this answered anywhere yet. Maybe a little help with this?
It DOES! Just tested that out. And mine is in a thick pivot case and still closes just fine. A little tight but not bad at all
Outstanding! So many have questioned this, and you nailed it!

Wondering if the M4 iPad with Magic Keyboard will fit. Older Magic Keyboards are slightly larger (round hinge) vs the 2024 model (oval)
My Chimera patch was lost the first day I carried it😢 it comes off too easily disappointing. Love the bag tho
Sorry to hear that

They're definitely a different vibe. I think for those constantly on the move they work great, but I too seem to adjust them more than I like
It's amazing that the Carryology was the first choice...........lol
Except that I purchased everything you see here and used them all to come to that conclusion. It’s just better thought out (Not sponsored opinion)

Now get to work and release an Insidious-Mini Sling 3.5-4L size🎯
Haha, I'll add that to the list
