So happy to hear that your recent vlog sale was so successful! It’s a good feeling to rehome things so they’ll get the use they deserve. 🥰 I’ve been feeling the same way recently. I have been trying to pare down my items to just the ones I actually use.
Whatever yours or anyone else's thoughts are - THIS was a Power Move. I'm so happy you made it. Nothing is worth no more than what a person is willing to pay for it and if you want the value to be more there has to be another person. I know sales video has inspired me - I've sorted the MUST GO bags and that feels so good. 🧡🍂
Tragic, but necessary! Love your no guilt attitude, there is no such thing as investment at this level. Happy weekend :) P/S that's the joy of having a daughter xoxo
You influenced me to buy the blue mini Boston and I don’t wear it either. It’s a cute bag but when I want blue I usually grab my Pearl navy nacre Pochette Metis. It’s on my list to sell.
Great video, Melinda! I’m a practical maximalist person overall 😊- if I don’t wear it or it doesn’t have sentimental meaning, I don’t need it to take up space. For me, I’m not a collector but rather a wearer of my bags and fine jewelry, daily. In the world of luxury, it’s purely the name we are buying. I’m in the fine jewelry business and I believe you know how ridiculously priced the luxury pieces are in comparison to their actual value. I fully support your decision to sell your onyx necklace. The chain matters! I much prefer a free floating pendant that I’ll need to put the clasp back behind my neck every once in awhile to a stationary pendant that ends up to the right or left of where it belongs consistently. I enjoy your channel and your attitude towards the finer things in life 🌻
Thank you so much! Great insight because I just recently realized it was the pendant being stationary that was annoying as well. I am with you in a wearer so if it’s not worn I need to let go!
@@LuxPurselove You mentioned upgrading your diamond in your wedding set & having your original stone set in a pendant, something to think about. The added bonus to a fluid pendant is that you can wear your necklace around the clock without issue, if you choose. I wear mine for months at a time, even cleaning the stones without taking it off.
Yup yup! You are so right. These lux things we love are not investments. Buy it cause you love it not to re-sell it. The couple of bags I sold did not make any money with the exception of one vintage bag that I got so cheap and once I realized it was too bulky and I would not wear it. I let it go and made $150 from it. Everything else…..lose upon lose but like you I am honest about what I buy so I am alright with it. Also trying to consume less and wear what I already have…I think many of us just have to much stuff that we have collected over the years. I am tired of all the stuff and clutter. Been cleaning out my closet for the last year and still not done. Yikes!
So very true! I started cleaning last year with all of my drawers and was like why do I need so many pjs etc. Did the closet last year and again recently and it feels so freeing donating and getting rid of things. I also am not buying makeup I don't need or any more perfume. Have to stop somewhere.
agree with you Melinda, bags are only good if they give you joy. They are not investments. The cost of shipping is horrific. I sent something to my sister in the UK a few months ago and was shocked by the prices. I love that you share your stuff with your daughters. I have 4 girls and give them a ton of stuff too.
Hi Melinda! I learned the hard way that bags are not investments. Its true that the price increases every year (specially Chanel) but when it’s time to sell we are not getting what costs at the boutique so what you say is right, maybe we can break even but most likely we are losing some money. Hermes still can give more profit but if you count the “pre-spending” to get those pieces is not worth it. I sold a couple bags and I was DISAPPOINTED with what I got but as you say, it’s better to find a new home for a bag that we barely (or never) use. TFS 😊 HAPPY FRIDAY!
Love ALL of your videos Melinda!! I agree with you, it bothers me when i hear “i bought this and it’s a good investment”, because investments are supposed to make you money/hold value but these pieces are so highly marked up already that they never hold the value that you pay to the company! Glad you made the decision to let go of some of your pieces, not for the money but for yourself and not holding on to things you don’t find yourself using. Would love to see any future jewelry pieces you plan on letting go! 🤎🎃🍂🧡✨
Great video as always. You’re so kind and generous, ( your daughters are a tonic😂) - so funny.Such beautiful bags Melinda, no wonder they sold, such a pity at a loss and it’s your collection whatever works for you., so refreshing to have a clear out. You look lovely, beautiful pearls 🤍Best wishes Melinda 💕💕
It’s true bags are not investments. I sold most of my Chanel at a loss the past couple of years. I kept only the bag I was continually using. I went into a Chanel store in Germany yesterday they had nobody in there but me! I was shocked. The Louis Vuitton store on the same street had lines to get in all day until they closed. Dior and Gucci stores on the same street had just a couple of people in them. Wonder what this all means if anything?
I think it does. When in Paris I went in Rue Cambon store and it was empty. LV had lines. I think we are over their ridiculous price increase while quality hasn’t increased.
Melinda your hair looks so pretty today! Shiny any silky🫶🏻wait a sec…is it styled differently? Sorry for the interrogation! You look beautiful either way ❤️
I am down to 22 bags, and I do enjoy them all. I have only one bag I don’t use and that is my LV Trevi, but I will never sell it. I absolutely love that bag!! I’ve just been very careful these past years as to what I buy, I just want to be sure I enjoy wearing it! So true….bags are not an investment! I did get an LV denim jacket recently and I love it! I took me a long time to find one as RTW usually doesn’t fit me well. Anyway……great video and sending blessings!🥰
I think 22 is a very useable number. Not sure I will ever be down to that number again but we shall see! Yay on the LV denim jacket! I tried one on in France and wouldn't come out of the fitting room lol. Hubby bought one last year and he loves it! Have a wonderful weekend and blessings back. Xoxo
Yes it’s true bags r not investments. I’ve sold a few but I look at it like this they brought me joy at the time I used them n now time to let go. Don’t focus on the loss of money just the fun n joy u had using them. Nothing in life says the same not even our love for certain bags❤
Good attitude! I am not focused on the loss at all which is why I haven't added it up lol. I look at it like I rented them for a bit and got to enjoy them, now someone else can. :)
TFS More than a year ago, we sold our home, downsized, retired, & moved out of state. I donated a lot of my contemporary bags & kept only a few. This year I cosigned & sold some LV new SLG’s that I never used. I am now contemplating possibly selling a few of my contemporary bags. I know I will sell them at a substantial loss but it sure feels good to declutter & know that you’re using what you have instead of letting it sit collecting dust & taking unnecessary real estate in your home. ☺️
Of course not an investment. BUT I have made money by doubling what I paid for my classic medium Chanel bag in 2018. The bag was about 10 years old but in almost mint condition. Had I known where prices are going I would have waited about 2 more years
You’re so right. That’s why for me I can’t make impulse purchases when it comes to luxury handbags and I learned not to buy a handbag with the intent to sell it because that’s a hassle by it’s self
Luxury bags and jewelry are not investment yet they are liability❌❌❌ The amount of money I’ve spend on home security, alarm, insurance and my anxiety of wearing them out when I’m out by myself does not worth having them. This year I sold couple bags and I was shocked to learn that Hermes and Louis Vuitton seems to be the only brands that holds somewhat their value. Chanel was 👎🏽
You sold during a buyers market. I made a lot on my chanel bags i sold about 2 years ago. I have to add that i bought them before all the crazy price increases
Hi! Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷 I always loose money, especially here in Brazil, NOTHING sell higher than retail. I bought my Birkin 40 barenia, pre loved and 20% discounted, yes, discounted. So… it speaks for itself…😅
A part of me before said oohh it's an investment, but who am I kidding😂. It is hard to sell, these Resellers are lowballing you. I'd rather keep my lux bag than selling it for cheap. I did sell one to a friend for the same price when I bought it but less tax, so yeah I didn't get all my money back.
I love that! That's funny because my husband sees it similar, while he doesn't think it's an investment he thinks it's cool I can "rent" a bag and recoup some of the value!
Of course many items are not investments they’re for daily use so that one can use something well made and has some longevity. That’s all ! Why sell for the sake of selling ?
I would say most of what we buy for ourselves are not investments but we have been fed a lie that luxury is. I am not understanding your last sentence? I sold for many reasons as I said in the video not for the sake of selling but because they were unused and sitting on a shelf and I would rather someone else enjoy.
these vancleef items , they sell dupes in tj maxx for almost nothing. big rip off and onyx is the cheapest worthless stone you can buy. was in style 40 years ago.
You’re absolutely right; luxury items are not investments. In fact, we often lose a lot of money when we sell them. ❤
We really do! Xoxo
I downsize my collection and went on a three month vacation. It was amazing. No regrets.
That’s awesome! 🙌🏻You’ll never forget that vs having something that sits on a shelf.
I have always thought it was absolutely ridiculous when people say bags are an investment. Great video.
Me too! Thank you!
100%! Index funds are investments not luxury items

Thanks Susan! Glad you enjoyed it.
I absolutley agree with you, Melinda. Luxury should not be purchased as investments. Good for you to let go of things you don't use, great video!❤️
Yes! Thank you!🩷

I can only imagine what shipping is like to the UK, that is why I did USA only. How fun to have 4 daughters! They are the best!
To be fair they could be called a poor investment. Which why I buy them purely as an extra curricular activity.
