Jeff "THE MANIC MECHANIC" is the real deal, expert rider, road & drag racer and wheelie king! He is also one of the best motorcycle mechanics in the 🇺🇸 USA , he has been building race engines for over 40 years. Before He came aboard to work with us full time we used to bring a trailer load of motorcycles to him twice a month at his shop 2 hours away,. Why? Because these were the motorcycles we couldn't figure out how to fix lol! He would usually call me by noon Monday and have fixed several of them already. Truly blessed to have him on the team. He also was in the 1st class that MMI had for motorcycles And also was one of the 1st students in the 1st class for Dyno jet training, He has owned and operated this dyno for over 17 years... Some people can talk the talk , but Jeff can walk the walk, on one wheel! He has a long family history with Motorcycles And has been around the true elite of motorcycle racing and jumping Him and his brother Daryl actually grew up with Robbie Knievel and Evel Knievel Because his dad was on the inner circle with Evel in fact Evel nicknamed Jeff's dad "THE GODFATHER"
More of Jeff The manic mechanic please!🙏 He’s a living legend with so much knowledge You have assembled a great team Big love Liverpool UK🇬🇧 And God bless America 🙏❤️
That wheelie makes an an old geezer like me proud. I may be old but I still got the heart of a lion. This should be a fun build. 40+ hp here we come. 😎
The manic mechanic is the man. So much respect for this mans knowledge as well as his wrench skills . You add in his riding ability and you have straight artistic creativity. Respect. Cant wait to see the outcome.
I'm looking forward to seeing your results. I've been riding a 2002 model for just over ten years, having purchased it in original, dead stock configuration. I have since performed some of the mods you guys will be performing. Mine has a stock bore JE 10:1 compression piston (stock compression is only something like 8:1 with that dished piston), it's been "desmogged" (removed all of the smog gear), and I've performed the famous "Dave's mods" on its stock carb, opened up the air box, and added a UNI filter. I'm even running the same Al Baker XR's Only muffler you guys chose. I am, however, running their header pipe as well. I didn't see that you included one - it might be worth considering doing so. Anyway, I've noted a significant increase in power on my bike, even without the head work and camshaft. I think you will be happy with your results. Can't wait to see... Oh, and just one "aside" - the countershaft sprocket on this bike is a "known problem" in that it is far too narrow, and thus wobbles on and eats away at the countershaft. The "fix" is to replace it with a countershaft sprocket meant for the XR650R, the water-cooled bike. The boss on that sprocket is a lot thicker, eliminating the problem.
Back then my 1986 XL 600 had 11 to 1 piston, mid range cam, super trap exhaust, XR( Dual carbs ) 5 angle valve job, head ported, ignition booster, airbox removed, uni filters. My best guess was 65 rear wheel hp maybe more. 50 mph wheelies in third were easy and id hit 70 to 73 mph wound out in that gear wheelie. I did once wind it out to max in 3rd gear and at 73 mph, power shifted into 4th and lifted the front and wheelied to about 90 mph :) It was a BEAST ! I ran it at the strip.... 13.0 at 100 mph in the 1/4 mile but it actually ran out of gear. 1 tooth larger on front sprocket might have put it into high 12s and over 100 mph. What a fun bike. I wheelied it almost as much as I rode it on two wheels lol. I am not at all kidding here ! about the speeds of the wheelies. Id go for 1/4 mile or more especially uphill.
You can tell Jeff is a master mechanic. his attention to detail must be like picking fly shit out of ground pepper... On a serious note. Jr you should do more of these types Of video's with Jeff. Give the man some spot light. Guy can hang the wheel too
My brother had one it was a torque monster in the woods and fast enough to street ride we put the biggest sprachet on the back we could find to give it a little more bottom end fun bike for sure
@@PeterParker-hw5rv Mine wasn't street legal but if it was it would have been great. Prior to that I had a 82 500R that was registered. The 600 was faster. Very different bike. I think the 82 500 was a better wheelie bike. The power was smoother.
This is what I have, but our fuel is way more potent over here, ported, cammed, bored to 102 and makes way more than this build. He should tip some top end fuel in and do another run.
Omg Jeff, You gave me a great idea when Christie does the sticker's the manic mechanic stickers maybe we should do a Kawasaki thumb up but with a twist, BIG THUMBS UP! lmao
Keep the XR650L content coming Ken! CR500's are great, but not many of us own them :-). Really looking forward to seeing what sort of gains you get out of these mods!
ALLRIGHT! This will be a fun one to fallow! Instead of all the 2 stroke big bore videos that just make me hate my self more for selling my CR.. Anyway BRP is my daily and my single track double duty ride now. I just did a kiehin fcr swap on my Xrl. Best single mod I have ever done on a bike I think. And after 95 times of taking it off and on I got the jetting perfect! 3rd gear wheelies with stock gearing no clutch most of time. Second gear front is in the air ! Wish I would have bought the second gear mod for it when it was all over ebay in America. Ahh. It's a lot of work anyway
I'm coming down in September with my 1975 CB750F with 71.25 pistons and my custom billet/Nikisil block/JMR porting. It has been dynoed at just under 107 RWHP by Rick Stetson from Harry's Machined Parts about 1.5 years ago. You guys can ride it.....it is awesome and yet a pussycat on the street. It has everything in it and I did all the work. Screw the RC Cobra's....this rules. I can say that because I also built the resurrection 3- 750 engines for the the rebuilt triple engine RC dragster. And...that dude is a beast.....10 telephone poles I bet.😄
Nice. Have my 2004 XR650L apart right now for a 101mm 10.5:1 JE, camshaft, ported/built head, etc... Looking forward to see your build! Should be similar.
your man is a true pro in front of the camera ,well spoken no errs or uhmmms ,very articulate and highly informative ,need to see alot more of him as he adds so much to the channel
Installed a HRC 628cc big bore kit in my 93 xr 600 ! W full pipe ,jets , k&N filter. It made a big difference in power and was a wheelie monster too , nice bike
Cannot wait to find out the results .heading up to Maine on a vacation I think meand the kids are going to have to make a detour to your shop one of the best I’ve ever seen hands-down the compassion for the bikes is incredible.
I have built quit a few xr650rs one of the main Restrictions is the factor header even most aftermarket ones still need to be port matched to get the best out of them. With such a big sigle piston with no help from other pistons for scavenging it makes a much bigger difference than you would think. Can't leave that mod out. There is a reason honda even made double length runners on the factor pipe.
Really impressed with the eye protection and the brain bucket (helmet) worn in the initial wheelie portion. Way to go! Set an excellent example for young riders. Very impressive, indeed!
Yrs ago I built an XL600. Did same mods but until I removed the air box and I stalled uni filters it wasn't strong. Once I did that it was crazy how many main jet sizes I had to go up to. Once jetted was incredible. Before removing air box it literally sucked the rubber carb boots between carbs and airbox CLOSED ! Which cooked it out.
Looking forward to this! I did basically the same with a cosworth 103mm piston, megacycle cam and 40mm carb on the 75mm stroke Honda XBR 500 engine resulting in 626cc. It revved to the moon and went like stink!!
Love those details from the mechanic. A little bit here a little bit there, new carb there, better pipe here, next thing you know? You got your self a snorter....... Rock that Dyno, make that Dyno work for its keep.. awesome guys..!!!!
