    Great video again BC , 2.30 am is bloody early to start the journey !
    Samui has a special place in my heart as I spent 3 × 6 months in 2005-2008 and met my beautiful wife there. Looking forward to the next edition mate 👍🏼🍻🇦🇺

      Thanks, SG! Nice story. Interestingly now most of the people you meet there can't speak Thai as they all seem to be from Myanmar! Well, the staff in most of the restaurants anyway. As you say, lovely place!

      @balloonchaser Same with Koh Phi Phi I found 10years ago. I think those accused of the Koh Tao deaths also were blamed on the Myanmar workers there.

    Wonderful video of a great island but as you say, more costly just to fly there. You have a great ability to pack a lot of info in such a short video with great editing. Looking forward to the next one on this island. I would ask you to comment on the beach as most say they prefer the beaches on the other side of the island. Thanks.

    • @balloonchaser
      @balloonchaser 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much, Goldfinger! I appreciate your comment. I reckon flights are more than double the cost on average compared to, say, Phuket or Krabi. Just working on the video for our day driving around. I might not be the best placed to comment so much on the beaches because I prefer the quiet ones. Although we did walk down Chaweng Beach for the nightlife. That's a great stretch of sand! Thanks again!

    Yes, that Hotel room and facilities are definitely above anywhere I have stayed....I would love to partake of the excellent breakfast offerings .I wonder if they allow walk ins for just the breakfast at a price? Beautiful island Samui, Looking forward to the tour around the island as well. Thanks BC as always.

      Thanks, Ric! Breakfast was certainly good quality and extensive, that's for sure. Pity I missed it on day 2! Never mind, so many good restaurants on the beach. I just need a better alarm clock and a bigger bank account!

    The video coming on screen now is the one where you were ripped off for the teapot in ChiangMai, not about the island. The hotel looked nice and that was a great view. As you know, i am not an island fan, but if ever dragged back to one, it would be an idea.

      Thanks, David. The video of me touring the island should be in it's correct space in the next day or so (once I've managed to finish it!). I think you might like this island. It's mostly very civilised. The only give away that it's an island is that the prices are that bit higher. That and the fact you are surrounded by water, I suppose!

      It's just a shame Bangkok Airways have a monopoly at the airport, it's just to expensive for four of us to go there.@@balloonchaser

    • @chicthai
      @chicthai 6 месяцев назад +1

      @farangtravels3956 That's a real big problem. I paid nearly 5,000 Baht each way for my ticket (albeit booked late & high season). I could have gone to Phuket for less than half that amount. In the next video I'll mention the port. And I'm going to check out getting the train and boat. Not necessarily great for kids, tho'😢

    Errrm the island video comes tomorrow and we all know tomorrow never comes 🤣 we used to go that Fireshow bar on Bohput beach during the island's Sandbox opening week, as Samui had more lax rules during that time. Never been to Samui or Phangnan in high season yet.

    I could not sleep if I paid 5K baht for the Fisherman's Village. I would expect lunch and dinner as well. Lol. Not a good mongering location either but nice for an afternoon then off to Chaweng.

      Hahaha! Thanks, Toby for an honest comment! Yes, the nightlife in Bophut is, er, somewhat limited. But as you know it's only a short hop to Chaweng! I'm getting old so I need a quiet life these days!

    Why didn’t you fly from Utapao or even mention it as an option ?

    • @balloonchaser
      @balloonchaser 6 месяцев назад +1

      Because I had 2 days, and the only direct flight from u tapas departs at 17.20 and therefore wasn't an option worth considering.

    super job, great hotel but was it value for the money with all the features you did not use. I like to stay away from the multinational hotel chains and try quality local hotels. My cousin married thai lady lives koh samui, I have an open invitation to visit.

      Good point, BB! I was subsidising the kids club and activities by not having children. And I'm always contributing towards the fitness room that I never use! Definitely cheaper options out there, but this was wonderfully clean and new. VFM? Not subre really, but I didn't feel like I'd been overcharged!

      @@balloonchaser Plenty of island vibe locations on the mainland imho, although the islands are a must-do (done Patong to death never Samui) but each to his own of course. In a remarkable coincidence, my last job was as Director of Language Studies at an Adult Continued Learning Centre in France, teaching EFL, DAF (Deutsch als Fremdsprache), FLE (Français Langue Étrangère) and Arabic for Travellers; that after couple of decades in non-education in Saudi Arabia. Retired now at 62.

      @andrewrobinson2565 That's a great story and sounds like some truly fascinating jobs you've had. I got into teaching the same as many foreigners in Thailand. Try that or go "home" to a boring job! I remember for my first job I had to do a demo lesson and a grammar test. I was so embarrassed by my grammar score until the interviewer told me it was one of the better scores from a foreigner. Hmm. I enjoyed working as DoS. Unfortunately, that all stopped with covid, as did my teaching English RUclips channel. But then again, if that hadn't happened, I wouldn't be touring round places in Thailand now! So every cloud has a small silver lining! Thanks for your supportive comments!
