Mohammed went to the Heaven and back and no drop spilled from the jug that was tipped by Buraq. And if allowed, those few seconds of that note would be enough for such a journey too.
🌟 Lyrics🌟 I will never marry my love I will die waiting for the bells Death, come pull me underwater I have nothing left to fear from hell I was gifted at the music I was born the day the year was new Someone has stolen all the water I keep the pills inside an urn Lord, show me my daughter Show me her before she burned We go walking in the hallways Now and then a record gives a tune Sometimes we hang from our chambers Baudelaire in the afternoon The yellow rose is a stranger The devil's invitation in bloom I stand looking at my chamber There are many things upon the floor The blade is ready for the slaughter The Virgin Mary hangs on the door I will arrive at death's border Take back the cover God has torn from me I am at the river with baby Her father enters with a leap Hold her head above the water She is pale against the stream I am the horse beneath his daughter He is the mountain underneath

Capo 2 Dm - Am - G +6 C - G - Dm - Am There’s an F in there somewhere too, it may be Fmaj7. Don’t hate, just what i can see without a guitar to hand...
Ian Forrester - First two stanza’s she arrives at the Dm chord Then she turns to an F chord in the third, fourth and fifth stanza’s: F on “afternoon” at 2.53, F on “door” at 4.00 F on “stream” at 5.06. She uses a straight F major chord each time - she thumbs the bass E string on the F note - a technique often employed to avoid resorting to full bar chord F ... From my multiple observations there is no Fmaj7 in this song.

That was what I first thought - it is a bit Sprout and the Bean. It may or may no be autobiographical. I think a lot of why she uses humour as a counterpoint to the very serious subject matter of her songs, I think the humour is trying to inject some honesty. Like she is saying "look yes, I write all these very serious songs but they are just songs and life isn't as sad as they are". That is my theory anyway, only she knows.
Whatever the case may be, she is a hell of a singer and songwriter and a good lyricist. I genuinely can't think of anyone who sings more beautifully. She had a different and entirely coherent and appropriate voice for each song! Wow, just wow. I mean you come across great singers, but I have never heard a vocalist slipping in and out of voices so effortlessly. Going back to my theory, this is why I think most of her act is an act.... her humour is the honesty. A generally happy person just really good at writing melancholy songs.
I don’t think Aldous Harding could tell you what it’s about tbh. Kind of like a lot of Van Morrisons songs. A lot of imagery and feeling as opposed to any kind of definitive meaning. I like it that way as it can be about whatever you want it to be about
When there is invention in her videos it can be utterly original. When there is not, as in this one, it is so heartfelt.
MASTERPIECE.
I lived a thousand lives inside that note she hits @ 3:10. What an absurdly talented musician
Mohammed went to the Heaven and back and no drop spilled from the jug that was tipped by Buraq. And if allowed, those few seconds of that note would be enough for such a journey too.

I will never marry my love
I will die waiting for the bells
Death, come pull me underwater
I have nothing left to fear from hell
I was gifted at the music
I was born the day the year was new
Someone has stolen all the water
I keep the pills inside an urn
Lord, show me my daughter
Show me her before she burned
We go walking in the hallways
Now and then a record gives a tune
Sometimes we hang from our chambers
Baudelaire in the afternoon
The yellow rose is a stranger
The devil's invitation in bloom
I stand looking at my chamber
There are many things upon the floor
The blade is ready for the slaughter
The Virgin Mary hangs on the door
I will arrive at death's border
Take back the cover God has torn from me
I am at the river with baby
Her father enters with a leap
Hold her head above the water
She is pale against the stream
I am the horse beneath his daughter
He is the mountain underneath
This is one of my RUclips treasures.
I love love love her. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

In the world of folk/Singer Songwriter, It doesn't get too much better than this, in any decade!!
Sending this to friends who complain "There is no good music anymore".
Poignant, powerful, beautiful and delicate. Such admiration for Aldous Harding and the wonderful gift She brings to our World.
A soul-rending song of such haunting and sorrowful beauty. Unwitnessed by most, akin to our own beauty and sorrow.

Quelle femme extraordinaire.
if she was around in the 60s,70s she would be a Superstar. Up there with Joan Baez , Joni Mitchell and Dylan. Yes , she's that good.
I went to a concert of hers last night and I just kept thinking "she's another Joni Mitchell". Almost inhumanly good.
i love you We love you..........
you take me home every time.....
thankyou.

maybe too emotionally draining. or because it's in a different tuning? just guesses
She played it in Sydney last night! It was overwhelming. I was in tears and can only imagine others were too.
