Having grown up with a 8088, I must say this is truly impressive, especially if you’ve got the business edition that only does 4.77MHz. (The fancy versions would overclock to 10mhz, but that broke all the games that expected the slower clock speed…)
@@djmips had a xt clone with the nec v20 at 12 mhz with push button to change from 4.77 to 12 . Was a dramatic change when you used calculation programs or other work programs and when you wanted to play ,push and 4,77 😉
@@crazy_wwww any display monitor can work, just as long as you can have component input, and that your hardware can support CGA Composite, the other outputs would just be B&W
Damn, that's smooth! Frame Rate is awesome! The camera you've used to record it is great too, considering it doesn't destroy the quality! And OH GOODNESS don't get me started on how you both Rickroll'd and Bad Apple'd us Overall, 9/10 Needs more Doom
This is incredible! I don't understand a lick of what you've done but I can tell it's impressive. Also, wow, this song really is the "can it play Doom" test for almost any piece of technology for weebs and I'm here for it.
I know bugger all about what this is, but I know enough that my jaw hit the ground. God damn. If this does not hit the stratosphere then I will be amazed.
@@alphaseinor I looked up what was available and the PC-XT came standard with a 10MB disk in 1983, so the size would work. I went digging on the throughput available and they advertise up to 0.625 MB/sec so yeah, it seems like it would work on hardware of the era :D
It's one of the most insane things i've ever seen. No modern stuff like MMX, SSE, AVX, no even 32-bit support. 512 KB RAM is 8 times less than Windows 95 minimal system requirements!!! I think it would be epic and mindblowing as hell if there was a DOS-game for 8088 that used animations like this as cutscenes.

im now wondering that if we apply the same way from this video with our current technology, we can make it the most efficient technology that we all can and never think about it.
Most video is optimized for space complexity since time complexity isn’t an issue. Computers are fast enough now to do wonderful things. The internet connection bandwidth you have is the limiting factor.
sure, you would need to write your own bootloader, then you would need to stage 2 bootload into the os. There's a bootloader games book that would get you most of the way there to understanding the concept. www.amazon.com/Programming-Sector-Games-Toledo-Gutierrez/dp/0359816312
Well, as long as you've got frames to spare... why a Sound Blaster, when you can do it by keeping the piezo beeper half-on, half-off with a 10101010 pattern, or 3/4 on with a 11011011 pattern, and so on... and stream the thing by setting IRQ0 to fire at least 22000 times per second?
I'm using a VGA card which when rendering CGA mode is mono only. Still haven't figured that part out yet. As for the Bad Apple part, it's a 2 bit color depth, so only black and white.
Here before this gets recommended to everyone
how did you know?

That’s because there’s only black and white, no shades of grey.

Now that’s some good stuff right here.
I love getting recommended stuff like this
Lmao, same
Absolutely amazing, I love this kind of stuff. The things some people are able to pull off with old hardware is the stuff of dreams
I love how it looks, and how it sounds. The Bad Apple part give me a weird feeling of nostalgia that I never had before.
i came for bad apple, i started out confused, got rickrolled, then got bad apple, and left with more confusion
