    Having grown up with a 8088, I must say this is truly impressive, especially if you’ve got the business edition that only does 4.77MHz. (The fancy versions would overclock to 10mhz, but that broke all the games that expected the slower clock speed…)

      @@djmips had a xt clone with the nec v20 at 12 mhz with push button to change from 4.77 to 12 .
      Was a dramatic change when you used calculation programs or other work programs and when you wanted to play ,push and 4,77 😉

      @@djmips This will work at 4.77, most of the bandwidth issues come from the ISA bus, not the processing.

    Damn, that's smooth! Frame Rate is awesome! The camera you've used to record it is great too, considering it doesn't destroy the quality!

      @@RN1441 the entire demo takes less than 10mb, easily fits on hard drives of the era.

      @@alphaseinor I looked up what was available and the PC-XT came standard with a 10MB disk in 1983, so the size would work. I went digging on the throughput available and they advertise up to 0.625 MB/sec so yeah, it seems like it would work on hardware of the era :D

      Hard disks were 5-10 MB at the time (1981), and most couldn't afford one.

    It's one of the most insane things i've ever seen. No modern stuff like MMX, SSE, AVX, no even 32-bit support. 512 KB RAM is 8 times less than Windows 95 minimal system requirements!!! I think it would be epic and mindblowing as hell if there was a DOS-game for 8088 that used animations like this as cutscenes.

      Most video is optimized for space complexity since time complexity isn’t an issue. Computers are fast enough now to do wonderful things. The internet connection bandwidth you have is the limiting factor.

      sure, you would need to write your own bootloader, then you would need to stage 2 bootload into the os.
      There's a bootloader games book that would get you most of the way there to understanding the concept.

    How come there is no color? Is this a b/w version of this demo?

      I'm using a VGA card which when rendering CGA mode is mono only. Still haven't figured that part out yet. As for the Bad Apple part, it's a 2 bit color depth, so only black and white.
