Bloody shims..... I used to do quite a bit of work on FIAT twin cams, and they had shims to adjust valve clearances. I NEVER had the right ones...Still, they didn't need doing really unless you had the head off and the valves out.
The one shim I needed was £14 + shipping! JP at the machine shop made me 3 for $10 - I gave him a $20 as I was so grateful I didn't have to wait another week for parts!
Mike, Probably annoy you but to avoid the problem of the delay between strip down and rebuild why not watch your own videos, we do, and take a lot from it, you really are good at your job.
Hi, your videos are great! Question, I can see a small leak from the 6 bolt input shaft rectangular cover, I’ve got the engine out for a new clutch and rear main seal, I want to fix the tranny leak while I’ve got the 200 tdi out, is it ok to remove that cover while the LT77 is horizontal in the vehicle? I’m worried about something unknown shifting or falling apart when I unbolt it.
Yes you can remove the cover when horizontal - just be careful - replace the oil seal as well as the gasket and check the breather as normally they do not leak from that part of the gear box
You need to change that music at the end, Mike - far too young and irreverent for the likes of us, you and the subject matter. Seems more appropriate to to a twenty-somethings fashion advert!
Thank you sir. I owe you a warm budweiser
Deal!
Hi Mike, Just found your channel & loving it. Got a defender 90 in bits & lost heart with it but you have spurred me on. Cheers.
Welcome aboard!
It take some thought to figure out how to to dial iot in. Thanks for being a precisionist :)
Any time!
Hi Mike very well done as always very great help many thanks Eliot keep well and safe
Thanks! Spring is on it's way!
It took me months to do me lt85 because of parts, that gearbox looks more complex.
The 3 shaft LT85 with a split case and no shims is pretty easy
...bloody hell Mike....these videos are like buses....nothing for a bit then five come along all at once! :)
125 files to edit and then the hard drive was so full some got corrupted -bummer!
Ouch!...glad you got it sorted mate...worth the agony 😂👍
Damn thing is putting up a good fight.
Took me all week to do this video as I normally build the box in one go but it was stop start for shims and other stuff

Makes for a long day.👍🇺🇸
This was a most unusual rebuild - normally a day's turnaround
Did you put the detent balls in Mike? I didn't see them go in when you assembled the shafts. I only ask because I forgot one on my own build.
Yeap!

Lol! This took a long time to get parts sorted - normally I strip, clean and assemble in the same day

Mate that looks like a nightmare
I had 125 files to stick together - worse than doing the job!
Gee, I thought the virus had got you. Phew. What I do without you??
This was one of the works video I have done - lots of retakes and files to edit
Do you recommend the Ashcroft kits?
Yes I do - use them most of the time
@@BritannicaRestorations I have the Ring Synchronizer friction of 1ST/2ND Gear Synchro Kit LT77 broken
From Ashcroft's?
@@BritannicaRestorations another Brand. And now I want to buy the Ashcroft brand. But I need to now if it is good.
Never had an issue, and Dave Ashcroft is very helpful if you have an issue, 5-star bloke

I have to agree!
...or a Tenna advert!😂
