- How to Lock Apps on iPhone with Face ID, Touch ID or Passcode on iOS 16! (New Method 2023)
If you ever wanted to lock individual apps on your iPhone, here's how! This new method is much better than the previous one we shared on the channel in 2021, but it requires iOS 16.4 or later.
So in this tutorial, we show how to lock applications through the Shortcuts app with the new "Lock Screen" action and some additional if/then actions. On the surface, this will force the apps to go to the lockscreen and require a passcode or Face ID authentication. And to take it a step further, it can also detect when you're using your phone so only other people get locked out. Kinda. You'll see in the video. Enjoy!

I good trick if you don't want to use the WiFi names (I have multiple at home because of the repeater) is to use Weather app to get your location and compare it to your address. This also helps in case you're on your mobile network (say the WiFi is down for whatever reason).
So add these steps in your automation:
[the names in brackets] are the system variables
- Get current weather at [Current Location]
- Get [Location] from [Weather Conditions] (to select this, search for Weather and select "Get Details of Weather Conditions" and then select "Location"
- Get distance from [Insert your address here] to [Location]
- If [Distance] [is greater than] [0.3]
--- Lock the screen
-Otherwise
-End If
You can get the location directly and it’s distance is less else or distance is more

@@corentinheinix8252 good point, now that I think of it it’s not making sense as it’s only locking in the house 😅. But that’s the logic anyway, your suggestion makes sense and you’d just need to add the Lock the Screen in the Otherwise part.

Samsung secure folder is fantastic. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t be standard on iOS.
After one year it will not give better software experience
Apple will add it in the future but will tell people that it can only run on more advanced Bionic chip. 😂

Apple really need to make this more simple.
If you want the other person to use only one app and prevent snooping, you can use the “Guided access” accessibility feature. You can enable it in Settings - Accessibility - Guided Access and set a passcode to activate/deactivate it. Then, start an app and press the side button three times and you’ll be in the guided access mode. To exit, press the side button three times again and enter the same passcode.
that's my thought exactly! and you can create an automation to turn it on as well. i set up a mode (similar to do not disturb or driving) that triggers an automation in shortcuts that turns on guided access. that's for those who want to use the triple press for something else or if the button's hard to press.

6:03 That’s why I keep Guided Access and “Accessibility Shortcut” enabled. If I ever hand my phone to someone, like a cashier at a store so they can read a code or to show someone a picture, I just triple tap the power button and the phone (usually) remembers the last settings I used (every option unticked so the screen is completely unchangeable) and it doesn’t require any other input. Then, when I hand it to them, I tell them the screen is locked so they don’t have to worry about accidentally swiping away or locking it and they don’t have to palm it like a fragile little antique piece of glass while trying not to touch the screen or buttons. When they hand it back, double tap the power button, Face ID unlocks it, and it’s back to normal.
I do the same. However I’ve also been using the screen time and automation tips since they were available.
Can you please show a video or walk us through doing your technique? Reason I ask is because when I triple click it shows the guided start but anyone can click on the “cancel” part and gain access at that point
@@carsonnguyen4423 Not sure what you mean exactly. If guided access comes up when you triple click the sleep/wake button, tap on “options” in the bottom left corner, select how much access you want (untick everything if you want it fully locked down), tap “done,” hit “start” in the top right corner and it should ask you to create a passcode (I typically do “000000” because it’s simply and I’m not too worried about security if I’m just briefly handing it to someone). Once you verify the passcode, then it should start guided access and the phone screen will be locked down. Then, to end guided access, either double tap the sleep/wake button to use Face ID, or triple tap sleep/wake to enter the passcode.
Absolutely amazing, i love this feature - thank you so so much. I often leave my phone open and now i feel safe doing so around my friends/kids/work, as details are safe.

Does the first method continue to work even if someone let's say invokes your photo library from within another app? Presuming they can open an app that allows them to import photos to where IOS allows you to view all your photos without opening the actual photos app.

Hello... Can it be done even with the shortcuts app? I mean, any person could get into it and disable the locking for the other apps.
App is just opening with out locking screen , I only get the notification from shortcuts when I open the app . How do I fix this ?
is there an automation wherein the app wont lock if the user is the owner?

This is so cool! Until I found your channel, I had no idea how many things my iPhone 14 pro max could do.
I use the screen time and set the apps to 1 minute. So when I’ve used it at least 1 minute on a new day, it locks. Also checking the one more minute, so it locks 🔒 correctly, so gotta use the passcode to get access. But I would really want a native app lock function in iOS, instead of it’s the developers own choice to set a Face ID protection. Apple, bring it to us in iOS 17!
I'm having an issue with this, for some reason the "lock screen" option isn't available when searching for it on shortcuts, I am using the beta version of iOS 17 and am unsure if this is causing this, hopefully someone has a solution to my issue.

Hey on IOS17. Thers a few steeps changes BUT pretty much the same. One thing to note - in doing the shortcuts method - what will happen is, if you set it up like the video here (excluding the advanced steps) it will send you to lock screen which is good. When you put in your password - instead of it taking you to the home screen - it will take you into the app you just tried to get into. The app WILL stay open in the background and you can toggle through your unlocked - locked apps - but once you go to the homepage ... and try to go back into the app - the proicess above starts again . Whilst the network adding step is great - if you have nosey roommates or whomever - and you all share the same network - that would not be ideal in my opinion :)
OBVS this doesnt work if the person KNOWS your lock screen password - but create a good one only you know and can guess.
What to do if I have multiple WiFi network? I don't know why but there are 2G and 5G and they kept switching nonstop.. 😩

You have to add a new blank shortcut on the automation, then you can select Lock Screen on the blank automation
