I’ve lived and surfed in Australia my entire life, and I’ve always been taught if you’re surfing on a beach as busy as bondi you’re practically a lifeguard😂😂😭
Me: I am a very strong swimmer but I will still stay close to shore People who can't swim: I can't swim, I suck at it, what ever, let's go deep into the ocean and swim into a huge and dangerous rip!!!
i was just thinking that, I have been swimming in the ocean my entire life but usually stay close to shore meanwhile people that cant swim see a rip and just go "that looks fun!" and dives right in lol
That's precisely because they can't swim that they go into rips: they are not aware of the danger (because of their own lack of experience + the way rips work) so they go right into rips thinking it's no problem. They are not stupid, just reckless
@@randomperson8423 *tourists Let's not generalize, that's kind of racist. The reason as to why they're the most rescued is simply because they dont do their research before they come and arent familiar to aussie. It's not because they're asian, it's because they're foreign.
Random Person I think what Tessa James meant was that because of Australia’s closeness to Asia, you see so many more Asians there because for most Asian countries, Australia is the go-to holiday location. It’s like Brits going to Magaluf area in Spain and Americans going to Cabo (etc) Mexico. If you really looked at the stats in terms of representation, you’d probably see it just being pretty equal. Since more Asians go to Aus that’s who you see moreso xx
I used to move my knee cap out like that as a trick to freak my friends out as a kid. I can still do it. But I don’t as I know the damage I was doing now. Lol
The problem is, people don't research Bondi and assume it's like any other beach. I'm British and can't swim at all, but I can go out to chest height in the sea with no problem at all, because the ground under me is going to be consistent, the waves steady and pretty calm and no complex rips and current changes etc. Same when I've been on holiday to portugal, france, germany, the channel islands etc, never even been close to having an issue. So people just think Beach = Beach, without realizing that Most beaches = Most beaches, but Bondi = An entirely different animal
I'm a decent swimmer and this beach would have me chilling in knee high water. The amount of incompetence out there is mind blowing. Not only that, most of these people just laugh it off and don't appreciate what these guys do. These lifeguards deserve a medal for dealing with this shit
yeah i learnt my lesson as a kid lmao. dont fuck around with the ocean. at the beach on a school trip and the teachers gave us a max depth [cause it suddenly became a lot deeper beyond there.] and my dumbass, who didn't know whether i was a good swimmer or not yet, went "yeah sure i can survive the deeper end." immediately got knocked underwater and got stuck under the waves for a good few seconds, no one noticed and i've never gone deeper than knee height since xD
@devanf17 In an earlier season they had recordings on their phones; saying to swim in the flags or the currents are dangerous. You know the usual. They were either ignored or it was the wrong language for the tourists and they didn't have the right language.
It’s sooooo funny to see the lifeguards tan lines. Like when they’re running, you can see a distinct line where they wear their shorts all day every day. I’m a girl lifeguard and I can relate. I have a giant circle on my back where I wear the same one piece swimsuit every day.
I'm the same way with children. I was a nanny for years and now I've been a teacher of little ones for years. I can't help but keep an eye out for kids. I hang out w my friends and their kids, 4 families, 11 kids, I always know, exactly where each of them are at! I can't help it.
I dated the head lifeguard at Solana Beach/Encinitas in Southern California in the late 1970s. We used to run along the beach in Encinitas - several miles a day. And on almost every run, Andy would see someone struggling in the ocean, and stop and go help them out of the surf. One time it was an older heavier woman, and she was just standing with water up to below her knees. I thought she looked fine. He said, 'She can't get out." I'm like, ' Really?' And he goes over to her, offers his arm, and says, 'can I help you out?' And she was so grateful. These amazing lifeguards see things that the rest of us do not see. And this was on his own time. He never stopped scanning the sea.
I'm a former lifeguard. It's been years since I was had the responsibility officially. But everytime I'm near a beach or a pool I seem to go into lifeguard mode.
