Hey guys, before you ask questions, please make sure your RUclips account is linked to a Google+ page. It's stupid, but Google made it so that you can only reply to comments left by channels that are linked to Google+. Sorry.
I used your mask making process made a few changes. Used Kevlar instead of fiberglass mat it was very effective applying multiple layers and adding Kevlar panels to the outside. Basically used your steps for making a mask got a few ideas from Devtac ronin mask. Came out great stops 22 357 and 12 ga. Also the Fiberglas resin mixed flexible Fiberglas resin to keep flexibility. Keep up the good work... Your videos are very inspirational.
WARNING: For those that plan to make this mask, you need to be VERY careful choosing what kind of resin to use for this. Some polyurethane resins out-gas, and are toxic even after it's done curing.
If anyone here is wondering if they should do this build, I'll let you know that YOU SHOULD TOTALLY DO IT! I made my mask with this build and I love it every day! Almost as much as I love baked beans!
Creativity like this is obviously unmatched by anyone else your age. I once made bulletproof chestplates using corner braces and rebar but this sort of stuff? Keep it up man, I really appreciate the inventions.
ZednoughtAlpha hey dude i also like building things so im gonna upload a vid with my mace thingy and i want you to make it and do some improvements on it :)
Bram Bakema Not sure, never worked with polyester resin. and you can reuse the mold as long as you are careful not to break it when you pull the mask out.
Thanks for responding ! I talked to my Engineer teacher (Or how you call it) He told me it's pretty much the same, You can buy an Welding mask (Headthingy) For around 8 bucks here maybe thats usefull for any projects you will do.
you should make your items to where you can sell them and people will buy them because some people dont have the time or tools to build them #revisiting an old video
Small tip for anyone who wants to do this..make sure you test the lexane or whatever you are using for lenses with a max velocity fps replica/gun. Do it on point blank range (think within 25 cm/ 3-5 inches) Or use the lenses from an certified pair of safety goggles. You only have 1 set of eyes..keep m safe at all cost... besides that..what an awesome video/tutorial on how to make your own mask..gonna try to make one myself..cheers!
Also, just a tip - WEIGH THE MIXTURE. If you get the ratio wrong and don’t put enough hardener, the resin won’t cure. I learned this the hard way - it’ll stay in a liquidated state and won’t cure if the catalyst (hardener) isn’t the proper ratio.
My older brother, who is Deaf, and I used to play Army of Two a lot. He is a huge fan of military stuff and WWI and WWII. Mostly he likes learning about the automotive stuff though. Like the tanks, cars, motorcycles, airplanes, boats, submarines and helicopters of those eras. I'm rambling but anyway, Army of Two is a very fond memory for us. So this may be a cool diy gift to give him. Although I've only dabbled in Resin this is something I could probably do. Either way nice vid. 👌

jacker372 you speak truth for the holes. there has to be some ventilation in the mask or all that work you put into it, will essentially be for nothing. cause the moment you start playing hard. you wont be able to see anything and youll be a sitting duck.
Omg. I just realise it was a joke after I read your comment. I was totally thinking he was talking about a material I don't know about called proop or something xD
Just got done making this project, didn't turn out how I had hoped but seeing as it was my first go at fiberglass and resins and whatnot, I'd say I'm decently satisfied lmao
+F3EDER it's not technically a necessary step. But it makes it a hell of a lot easier to get all the clay out. The mold should be reusable if you're careful as to not break it.
austin garrett Been doing this a few times now and as long as the clay is soft it is okay to skip the enamel. But it is wise to be sure that you have proper draft angles or you might have a problem getting the clay out of the mold.
well this is actually pretty clear steps, i've tried once but not this particular style of mask though. thanks man but couldn't agree more about the fiberglass+resin stuff. just, wow

Great tutorial, Nonlethal. I've always wanted to try something like this. I just finished my mask this morning, but it looks a bit shoddy: A result of being an amateur with the clay. I'm trying again tomorrow. Thanks for posting!
Advice: if you want the mask to extend over the ears for paintball/airsoft just double layer the sides of the ears when using the clay are do one layer and make a hole above the ears to put ventilation(thick steel mesh) so you can hear when wearing the mask.
Definitely using this technique to make a Borderlands psycho mask. I don't know why people prefer to buy masks online....unless they're begging to have their personality scream "I'm plain" or "Too lazy to try something worthwhile" . The amount of times I've seen people wear obviously cheap masks is unbelievable. Cheap masks are a dime a dozen and look it. As for a personalized, handcrafted mask, what could be better?! It gives you the right to brag about your creativeness! So, to those bashing this guy for actually putting an effort into something he's created from an idea to a finished product; I'm sorry, but I just don't get you. Unless your either just that jealous because you can't make the mask or lazy because you don't want to take the time to make something you can take pride in. Cheers!
It's been 2 months since watching your tutorial and my Payday 2 style mask is done! It's fantastic, a little on the heavy side (my bad) but since it's such hard material it was great to paint on. Here's the mask for anyone who wants to see: twitter.com/PootisFish/status/625017194309677056
ZodiacHD Really just followed the steps in the video, same ingredients and everything, just the harness (the strap part that holds the mask on your face) I made myself out of an old backpack. If english is not your native language, which is what made the build harder for me, the "Bondo Body Filler" stuff is the putty you use to fix dents in cars, the fiberglass resin (along with fiberglass mat) should be found right next to body filler in every well sorted hardware shop. Just a pro tipp if you are gonna make a mask too: DO NOT cut corners when sculpting the clay. Fixing details you missed at the sculpting are a bitch and a half to fix with sandpaper and additional body filler.
+MightyPootisFish When you were sculpting the clay for your mask did you sculpt it while using the styrofoam head or no? i'm trying to decide if i should sculp the mask first and then put it on the styrofoam head.
I did not use a styrofoam head at all, I instead made a plaster cast of my own face (my sister helped with that, but you could even do that without another person) which I then casted with regular plaster from the hardware store. It's really cheap to make and can be easily reused for the next sculpts. A thing to note though is to put lubricant onto the model of your face before putting the clay onto it, otherwise the clay will stick to it and you have to scoop out the mold which brings the risk of the mold breaking. Also, put lubricant onto the finished clay sculpt, it will help you a ton getting it out of the mold.
Simon Cooper Fiberglass, while hard, is light. IIRC, it's twice as hard as steel and less than half the weight per lb. So yes, this is light...not feather light, but it's not going to be so heavy that you won't wear it. (unless you're just weak as hell.)
Excuse me for my stupid question, what was the name of the material you used to sculpt it? I tried to write ''modelling poop'' on google because thats what i heard..
damn dude really nice vid, may have to give it a try, been looking to make some 'grunt' masks may not be ao2 style but sure this will work just as well for any mask build

All right, after months of taking dumps in a bucket, i've got enough for this build. But some of my poo is kind of like a liquid, is it still useful?
Thats what the hardener is for. Duh
Wtf bro😂😂
Just stir it up a bit and use hardener if it’s still too soft

Where could one get a bucket of clay like that?
Your butt
It's poop!
+glockfan112 Probably most craft stores will have buckets of clay you can get. Try Michael's, Joann's, or Hobby Lobby
*poop
E6000 would be a great adhesive for that. It dries clear, it's really strong, and it sticks to pretty much anything.
That stuff you sprayed the clay with? Is it like some kind of oil?
+F3EDER It's a spray enamel.Basically clear spray-paint.
ZednoughtAlpha Okay, do you find it to be a necessity? Did you dig the clay out of the plaster and are you able to use the plaster mold several times?
+F3EDER it's not technically a necessary step. But it makes it a hell of a lot easier to get all the clay out. The mold should be reusable if you're careful as to not break it.
