It does appear that the gentleman did this intentially. It's unfortunate that he chose to do this in front of children. The jumps off the Golden Gate Bridge are staggering. It's horrible to feel all hope is gone.
A family member became psychotic and he heard voices telling him to kill. He went to his university where he was a bright law student and killed random people. He was taken down by an ex marine and now is serving a life sentence on a prison psych unit and caused a multitude of grief to his family and many others. Sometimes people give into the voices if this was this man's case. Who knows. Maybe he was sane and just a selfish bastard.

I’ve taken that ride, and hate it when they stop it mid flight & the carriers sway. I’ve felt like I was going to fall out before. They do need locking mechanisms on them that release only on the platform. I rode with my nephew, and he managed to get the bar up which naturally took 10 years off my life & scared the shit out of me. Luckily I have a habit of putting my arm around him, and hold on to the top of the seat the whole way as well. There is one major design flaw. The seats are not deep at all. I could very easily see this guy toying with the bar to make sure it was closed properly at the exact moment the ride did it’s brief stop. Jolting him out of his seat while holding onto the bar. This might not have been on purpose. I know my nephew wasn’t trying to jump, and if the ride stopped at that moment he lifted it & I don’t have a deathgrip on the stationary parts plus not holding onto him. We’d be dead too.
I used to work at Lagoon, trained on Sky Ride. We do say instructions during boarding and departing the ride. I’ve ridden this ride every visit to the park. It is safe, but people aren’t. Can’t control what riders do once the ride is going.
Oh, man. I was there when this happened and witnessed him being taken away by the paramedics. They were trying so hard to make sure he was covered but unfortunately they couldn’t. I was actually shocked he had initially survived because of how serious his injuries were. Praying for him and his family.
I read that a tree branch penetrated him as he fell. From what they said it perforated his intestines and lungs. Also, as gruesome as that all is, I read his eyes came out on impact. This is all alleged. But if true, probably better off having not survived those types of injuries.
Yeah they were saying you could see his insides, his neck and head were completely messed up, as was his pelvis. It really probably is a good thing he didn't survive, as awful and sad as that sounds.

I've been to this park SO many times, and I truly believe that it was user error. Never has this ride malfunctioned while I was at the park and they really do perform many safety measures very often at the park. It's a really safe place, and he did this on purpose.

Don't know if you have ridden this ride, but it is not electrically locked. You can easily reach your arms over the side and unclip the bar lock to pull it up. It's this easy because the ride does not stop, simply slows down to load people in, and it allows the employees to have an easy time.

There has never been an accident on Sky Ride since it opened up in 1974 until now, what I am thinking is that he did it intentionally not knowing that his arms were going to get tired to where he wasn't able to pull himself back up into the gondola, but he still shouldn't have done it, the trees probably wouldn't have broken his fall as well but he al least would have probably landed on the grass, instead of on solid concrete.
If he ran up and grabbed the bar I would think the ride operators would shut down the ride. They are able to do that for people who have trouble getting on and off the rides. At least back in my days they were able to do that.
@@twn5858 they have all the procedures on the ride for the operators, they stopped the ride right after it happened, they had it opened on Sunday because Farmington police told them that they could.
I have been on that ride every single year since it opened in 1974, it is not a scary ride! It takes you from one end of the park when you have finished all the rides there to the other end and all new rides and has a beautiful view. As an update to this, he has now passed away. Many people stated he was drunk, but nothing has formally come out. I just thank God he didn’t land on someone and kill them, the ride is 50 feet off of the ground.

We had a similar ride at Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh. When I rode it with my husband, I had an almost uncontrollable urge to drop out of it. Maybe this feeling is what this man had. Very scary feeling and I was overwhelmed.
The ride both had a safety bar and a seat belt equipped with it. There is no way it was an accident and I’ve heard from multiple sources the man was intoxicated. He had to have purposefully climbed out. Still, it’s sad he passed and I hope his family is doing well.

I'd say he was pulling a stunt not realizing it's a very hard thing to pull yourself back up and in especially if your extended that low for a period of time , Takes a ton of strength to pull yourself back up and to climb back into that thing. He didn't think it through enough, you don't get a second chance , think he was relaxing to save energy and hold on for as long as he could.
He was too calm in that video for it to be anything but his doing. There is no panic, there is no struggle to get back in the ride, no gauging a safe place to drop and break his fall. Just a calm and relaxed guy that thought this proved anything other than gravity exists.

I work at Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH. Just like this, a small non-Disney park with a Sky Ride that goes over a big fountain. Luckily nothing like this ever happened there.

I've been on this ride many times as a kid. I'm surprised it could kill someone falling for this height. Unless he dived off this ride head first I would think it would just break a leg or something like that.
My two local themeparks in Australia (Sea World and Dream World) got rid of the sky ride about 6 years ago. I guess they figured they weren't safe for reasons like people climbing out of them or slipping out of them. It's sad because they're a great way to transport people around the park and for them to have a bird's eye view of things.

If he ran up and grabbed the bar I would think the ride operators would shut down the ride. They are able to do that for people who have trouble getting on and off the rides. At least back in my days they were able to do that.
@@twn5858 they have all the procedures on the ride for the operators, they stopped the ride right after it happened, they had it opened on Sunday because Farmington police told them that they could.
I have been on that ride every single year since it opened in 1974, it is not a scary ride! It takes you from one end of the park when you have finished all the rides there to the other end and all new rides and has a beautiful view. As an update to this, he has now passed away. Many people stated he was drunk, but nothing has formally come out. I just thank God he didn’t land on someone and kill them, the ride is 50 feet off of the ground.

We had a similar ride at Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh. When I rode it with my husband, I had an almost uncontrollable urge to drop out of it. Maybe this feeling is what this man had. Very scary feeling and I was overwhelmed.

The ride both had a safety bar and a seat belt equipped with it. There is no way it was an accident and I’ve heard from multiple sources the man was intoxicated. He had to have purposefully climbed out. Still, it’s sad he passed and I hope his family is doing well.

I've been on this ride many times as a kid. I'm surprised it could kill someone falling for this height. Unless he dived off this ride head first I would think it would just break a leg or something like that.

50 feet is basically the fourth floor of a four-story building. Chances of surviving a fall from that height is very, very low.
My two local themeparks in Australia (Sea World and Dream World) got rid of the sky ride about 6 years ago. I guess they figured they weren't safe for reasons like people climbing out of them or slipping out of them. It's sad because they're a great way to transport people around the park and for them to have a bird's eye view of things.
