Bob had a kick ass studio on North Street In Greenwich. It was a former dairy farm barn.It had high 50 foot ceilings to accommodate his 40 foot canvases. Mel , Let me know if you are out there buddy !!
the abexers were great but too self-involved, all agree. the solution though surely was not the aesthetic or non-aesthetic of Johns, Rauschenberg and Warhol. At least the abexers were still searching; pop gave it up, became corporate and at its best produced merely minor art, at its worst cynical inanity to no good end, pure and simple.
He's really a disappointment and an embarrassment to hear speak...or rather, "make pronouncements." Remarkable how naïve he comes off at this age. A real name-dropper too! And then there's the "My European Wife" reference. Love his early collages, a lot. But don't need to hear him talk about them.
Simply the great...great simplified drawings...
