I love my "safe" songs 😂; they make such a rich vocal backdrop to my everyday life. I save the others for jam sessions when I can enjoy them fully. Suju has been the perfect group for me since I have such eclectic taste. The only problem I run into is forgetting about some of my favorites because they so rarely pop up on shuffle since there's just so many songs. Thanks for the review.
haha yes! I am there with you on the eclectic tastes, I absolutely feel like SUJU has some similar tastes as well, they kind of do everything , there is a lot of great songs! thanks for watching!
This and Mamacita I consider to be masterpieces as far as albums go. Especially the mamacita repackage. Think it’s called This is Love. As always, thanks for reacting to the kings!
@@Killdeer25 with kpop albums, it’s kind of more than just the tracks. It’s the entire majesty of it all? If that makes sense? Like the concepts, packaging, looks, etc. I guess, pageantry would be a better word. But I wish western artists did this more too. They make owning a physical copy worth it. In the mamacita/this is love for instance. And they even did two musics videos for this. “This is Love” was the love song and Evanesce was the break up song. You have a lot to react to though I’m sure and are trying to still check out new artists which can be overwhelming. So, just take your time. Again, thanks for your reaction to them.
I think I pretty much agree with you on all counts. TBH, there is a whole swath of SuJu music that, if it wasn’t SuJu, I wouldn’t bother with. I love the weird stuff and the anthems and hype songs but it’s their vocals and the fact that as a fan I’m attached to the guys themselves that makes me enjoy the songs that fit that safe label. They definitely have some good songwriters too, both members and hired songwriters so that helps elevate the safe ones as well. Like you said, the worst of SuJu would still be better than the best of most music these days. I’ve always thought that Super Junior is one of the most widely accessible groups in kpop because they have so many songs that can appeal the the widest audience, like a group you can play at a wedding reception and everyone is going to have a good time. And they’re just so damned lovable, they could record a nursery rhyme album and I’d listen to it. 😂
HAHA! I actually agree with that, they are probably THE most accessible group in KPop, they actually just have something for everyone, honestly they do the weird stuff best too. they are a complete group, like I think EXO and BTS are probably better musicians (except for KRY) but these guys do everything!
Thank you for the review, really appreciate your feedback especially you appreciating the queen burn the floor, cause still can't believe it wasn't awarded as it deserves that year. If you'd review other SJ albums in the future I'd totally recommend "D&E Countdown" it's a favorite of mine and I like D&E style in music.
I agree that Tell Me Baby sounds like the credits are rolling. To me it sounded from the start like an anime themesong, to the point that my brain would constantly try to create series of images for different types of anime that it might be the themesong for. It drove me a bit nuts the first few times I listened to the album because of that. I definitely agree with you on how good this album is. The first of any Super Junior complete albums that I heard was D&E's Countdown, and I kept thinking the whole way through it that it is a really, really good album, and that's only two of them. So then I had to listen to the main group's most recent album in entirety, which was this one, and all I could think was these guys definitely don't joke around when they set out to make an album.
@@Killdeer25 When I thought about it, I realized that all of their albums that I have listened to so far are no-skip albums for me -- no filler at all. Which, as you pointed out, is actually unusual in how people usually make albums. There was one song I skipped at first on a D&E album -- a single performance, "Lost," sung by Donghae -- because it's a country song and my ears were mortally offended by even the intro. Until one day, my hands were full and I couldn't skip over it, and I now think it is one of the best country songs I have ever heard (sorry, Donghae, there is no topping Dolly Parton's 9-5). At Super Junior's current level of artistry, everything they do musically is basically a form of 9-dimensional chess. It's more than what another commenter pointed out with all their songs being made with an ear for how they will perform them live. I didn't fully get it until I saw Super Show 9 on livestream from Seoul. They have a lot of expertise in what makes a great show -- one way to look at it is that they pick a sequence of moods through which they want to take the audience, then build a show, or a set in a festival, that does that. So I'm 99% sure that when they made Paradox and Mystery, they were making them the best and most interesting individual songs that they could *and* planning how they would fit into a really interesting album *and* already envisioning what they were going to do on stage with the Super Show 9 medley of Ticky Tocky -- Paradox -- Mystery (it's really good). Most albums of theirs contain a fun, upbeat, beautifully-executed song that sounds a bit...lightweight, given what heavy-hitters they are. I saw/heard some of those in individual fancams before I saw what a whole concert of theirs looks like with the Super Show 9 livestream, and I wondered why such vocalists of such power were doing things so...perky. But when I saw the kind of progression their concerts take the audience through, it was clear -- those songs have a place where they become great, and Super Junior knows exactly what to do with them. Including funny placement -- in an SMTOWN concert, Super Junior included BAMBINA in their set, which is literally a commercial in song form for their own Super Show concerts. I thought that was hilarious -- "If you put us on on the company group stage, *we're going to use it to make the audience want to go to OUR concerts*." It worked too. In the fairly short time I've been listening to them, I've noticed that every time a non-fan sees them live, they become instantly ultra-converted. When these guys want to put an audience in a happy mood, it's like they have mind-control powers. You're getting a happy mood even if you arrive thinking you hate them. So they also make songs with an eye to other kinds of shows or festivals they'll be in as well as their own concerts. And they make concert sets built around other purposes -- like a dramatic return of Zhoumi from Super Junior M, or a trot sendup that was a big ol' advertisement without ever saying his name for Sungmin's trot debut. As I said, to me it seems like 9-dimensional chess, though I'd guess it'd seem less complicated to you since you're a musician and I'm not.
I remember when this album came out. I we were waiting for it for so long it kept getting postponed. Tell Me Baby was probably because it was supposed to be a winter album originally. Even the concept of the album the trailers changed. Elf suspected House Party was added after the album was almost done and pushed into the title spot. Hmmm🤔 It feels like something is wrong with the sound. In this type of videos the sound isn't perfect sometimes. Maybe it's better to listen to albums on official channels? If you like to just listen without watching MVs and performance vids you can always switch to a song without the vid
Interesting, sometimes compression does some negative things to these videos too, I have found that I have to battle clothes video compressing
