@dennischristopher9952 Covid would have been handled better if everyone put on their big boy pants and ignored it as soon as it escaped China.
Bankrupting the West to extend the lifes of a few 80 year olds by maybe a year was a ridiculous decision.
Everyone would have had it within the first year. Basically the same amount of people would have died and we could have gone to their funerals.
Sweden done this and the same amount of people died their per capita as everywhere else with an elderly population.

However, the movie never got made, as Sommers produced The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer, and directed G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra instead.

James Horner did such a great job scoring the music to this scene. He first introduced the low pedal tone from the Bass section around 1:09, then builds up to a variation of the cue he wrote for the original scientist that was in a panic as he tries to warn others. He pulls back when Freeman continues the dialog, and goes back to the frenzy music, then back to the slower, ominous music to get out of the way of the dialog. This is such a great example of how to score music for dialog scenes. It is something I am studying for when I score music for media.

It's a bit dramatized for films and tv. But nowadays with information so readily available and many self made astronomers and the public would know fairly quickly about this kind of threat pretty soon as well.
And with a test that happened, I think a few years ago now, we know we can redirect comets if needed. And all you need with them so far out is the smallest of pushes. It's like a golf ball trying to hit a hole in one across the Pacific Ocean, if you can spit at it like halfway through it'll veer well off course.

They’re saying it’s coming, and honestly, nobody knows comets better than me, and this one… it’s huge. But it’s a nasty comet, a dirty comet, probably made in China, and it’s heading right here because of the Democrats, always with the open sky policies, they let everything in, even space rocks. Very unfair.
We’re going to handle it, believe me. We’re going to send the best people, tremendous people, with maybe a little rocket, a beautiful rocket. And we’re going to say, ‘Sorry comet, you can’t come here.’ We’ll stop it. It’ll be fine. But if it hits, and it shouldn’t, that’s on Sleepy Joe and the Radical Left. They probably ordered it. I was actually out apartment hunting when my wife called me and told me that trump just announced covid as a pandemic and to rush to walmart and get all I can. I book it to walmart and the car line was a block long just to get into the parking lot. You can see people RUNNING to the entrance and all alsles pretty much empty.

You know, when the video starts with, “A few minutes ago, the United States’ ambassadors to every country in the world told the leaders of those nations…,” it pushes a self-important image of what America claimed to be. As a non-American, that image now feels completely disconnected from reality. Given everything that has happened under the current U.S. administration, the idea of America as a moral or global leader feels hollow and outdated.

Rewatching Deep Impact, Independence Day or Armageddon today feels like looking through rose-tinted glasses at a world that still believed in its own redemption.
Those films treated the apocalypse as a test of worthiness-we watched the world burn just to prove we deserved the rescue. But by 2026, that fantasy of the 'common good' has evaporated. We’ve learned that a common enemy doesn’t unite us; it merely provides a smokescreen for the disaster capitalist and the techno-fascist to strip-mine what remains of our agency. In the modern era, the ashes weren't a place for rebirth-they were just another asset class.

You make a very valid point. Something big has changed since these films were made. The world is filled with very wealthy and very hate-filled men. And they don't care what happens to the rest of the world. However... there are still forward-thinking leaders, such as Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada, who believe we are One Human Family and are doing what they can to counter those forces of darkness. Which side will win? I think that depends on whether we all get involved rather than sitting on the sidelines.
