"calcifer, what if I forget him someday" really hit me. my baby kitty and friend of 14 years just passed away at the beginning of the month, and everyday I worry I'll forget what his fur felt like, or his purrs sounded like, or his little adorable face looked like. everyday I remind myself that just loving him is enough, even if my brain can't recreate every moment, I am still more whole as a human being for having loved him.
i’m so sorry for your loss. i hope one day you’ll be comfortable enough with that feeling, or find a way to get through it. may he always be remembered by you, and may life be kinder to you.
I am so extremely sorry for your loss. I have lost my baby boy too and I get mad at myself too sometimes. But you have all these sweet times you spend together to remember and cherish.Such impactful creatures can't get forgotten easily.
I actually teared up when Emma cried. I feel like forgetting is a universal human fear, like I know I won’t remember this moment, but what if I forget the important moments 😭😭
I am so sorry for laughing at Emma's misery, but the sob city is the funniest yet the most wholesome part of the video. i love youu guyss! Oh, and I remember just last week a book did that to me, Anne of green gables. I cannot believe i sob to Anne of Green Gables for two straight hours!
I totally agree with Carolyn on Never Let Me Go. I've read it four times in my life and continue to go back to it. I found it massively moving and impactful.
Oh God When Emma started crying and listing all the consequences of memory loss, I cried as well...that just touched so many hidden fears, I guess Even if This Love Disappears Tonight is so high up on my TBR right now. It sounds like something I would adore...after the whole summer of watching anime with light-novel-like vibes Thank you so much for sharing the book as well as your emotions! Inlove you, I love your friendship with Caroline and I love your collabs🥺🥺🥺
Never Let Me Go is one of my favourite books ever and made me fall in love with Ishiguro's writing. I just love how he plays with the unreliability of the narrator. It is not that the narrator is deliberately unreliable, but the way they (are forced to) experience the world around them is incomplete or completely different from how other characters in their world are experiencing it. As a reader you are forced to pick up on how their world really works through the reactions of the characters around the narrator and that is such a unique reading experience. It was for me in Never let me go, Klara and the Sun and The Remains of the Days anyway :)
I was having a cry session before playing the video and started smiling listening to your Irish accents. Thanks to you and Carolyn for bringing some much-needed joy ❤❤❤
This video was so lovely. I love your energies and how they complement each other. It is so sweet to just see you together but watching a vlog is even more comforting
my adoration for the both of you only grows stronger with each upload :,) and emma you’re editing is stunning, the shots in the park brought me so much comfort. this is a video i will come back to for some time. thank you ❤️
just lost my mother a month ago and you crying over your fear of forgetting the people (and cats) you love was a punch in the gut but muchly needed, thank you
I already mentioned this in Carolyn's video, but I wanted to say again that I love it when you two are together. I like watching the videos on the same subject from both channels so I can see both points of view! 🥰
I love the movie Your Name. The creator of the film, Makoto Shinkai, is probably my favourite animator. The way he does water and light is so beautiful. I highly recommend checking out a lot of his other films. I love Studio Ghibli films, and I know they're different, but I prefer the animation style from Makoto Shinkai. I love his film Weathering With You.
Seeing you cry like this brought me back to the day I finished The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo. This book broke me to pieces, I just couldn't stop crying because it made me reflect on life and on so many other things. I'm definitely gonna give Even If This Love Disappears Tonight a go.
Recently found you. I'm in New Zealand. I'm in my sixties. I often spend too much time bumming through you tube. Periodically I search for books. And low and behold i came across a font of information amongst the rabble of "READ A HUNDRED BOOKS A YEAR!" (More like the synopsis ifn y'ask me) Im getting away from trying to read more, by reading faster, and not understanding, or retaining a damn word i just read. Having been around a while, I tend to get bored with the whole pattern of boy meets girl etc, someone gets shot, disappears or they have affairs. Or both. Anyway, I usually go for thrillers, psycho. Bored with police procedural. I sometimes feel, if i could have my life over again, I'd have taken a lit degree. Problem is, knowing what i know now, and appreciate about what i should have done, well anyway, it's too damn late now im retired. Life was more about working and paying the bills and women and children etc. This in mind, i find myself going to the classics. Wanting to read something that works the old grey matter. Just wanted to say, i really get a lot out of your sitdown hauls, bookshelf clearing, unboxing etc. Books that tend to be a little weighter than the fluff you see on some "book hauls". Btw, we live mobile. Living the dream. We bought a NZD100,000 caravan three years ago and much as id love to get another book shelf, it's not a good idea as you have to haul those books around. That said, i keep a box on the back of my truck. Has around 50 books in it. When we come across a book swap camp ground, or thrift shop, charity etc, we leave a couple, take a couple. Given the weight of carrying books around, i have a couple of kindles, one very new oasis, and one very old faithful Paperwhite three, as well as the kobo libra 2 and a clara 2e. Main reason being, sometimes one's deals can be better the other. Between those and audible, i have a couple of thousand ebooks and about 200 audible books. As well as kobo audio books and audible. Anyhow, enough. Back to Virginia wolf. Anyway, keep going...
you crying about possibly forgetting the people and creatures you love, had me crying too. I had to send a snap to my best friend telling her I love her so much. you got me in my feels Emma! ❤❤
Regarding my reading marathon, I managed to complete just three books in a span of one day and seven hours. These books were "Stone Butch Blues" by Leslie Feinberg, "Fish in a Tree" by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, and "Flowers for Algernon" (the novel) by Daniel Keyes. I had to revisit "Stone Butch Blues" later though.
I really liked Never Let Me Go, although I didn’t think the characters were particularly memorable. It was very melancholic to me, and the fact that not much of note happened really added to the theme/concept. In many ways these characters led very ordinary lives which makes it interesting to liken to real life and to the secret revealed at the end.
Have to add Even if this Love Disappears Tonight to my TBR. Your reaction and thoughts of not being able to remember your loved ones after they pass 😢 Love your friendship with Carolyn. Hope to one day have someone I can bond with books like this.
i think a book can take very different meanings for each person and that's why our opinions can also vary so much on the same media. i personally didn`t interpret Never Let Me Go as a social criticism of having a predetermined role, work culture, our system, education and school. For me the message took an entirely different form and I think that is always so amazing to realize about reading, how each of us can internalize something in our own way. Now hopefully this doesn`t sound arrogant, I`m not great with words and English isn`t my mother tongue, but I believe that this book doesn`t stand strong enough or original as criticism to the current system, and that might be one of the reasons you didn`t love it as much as Carolyn, who saw it from a different perspective, closer to the way I also understood it. I personally believe it was more of a delivery of questions on morally sensitive matters, awareness/ignorance of fate and how that impacts the course of our life, the contrast between the mundane and the tragic, as well as the theme of Life as in the creation of life, what makes us human, what gives us our human rights or what sort of narrative could take them from us. There is no right or wrong way to interpret a book of course! I just thought I`d share my thoughts, because even though I also struggled to get into the book and the one thing that kept me going was also the need to get answers, I still think about it a lot and it has left a mark on me. (I gave it 3.5/5 stars, rounded up to 4 on Goodreads, for reference.) Anyway, lots of love to both of you, you are my two favorite people to watch on this platform edit: also yeah I am crying too seeing you cry and asking "what if I forget one day?" ok i am destroyed without even reading the book 😭
I need you to know that I paused your video and went to watch the adaptation of *Even if this Love Disappears Tonight* because I needed to understand. I cried so much my eyes hurt, so I bought the book immediately after that. Thank you for this discovery, it hurts in a wonderful way.
Omg, Emma's reaction when finishing Never let me go was just like mine when i read it last month haha! It's nice to hear the different opinions you two have on the same book.
You're reading Even if this love disappears tonight also got me in tears😭 because it reminds me of a book that I've read that has same vibes with that book. It's called I want to eat your pancreas by Sumino yoru. This book also got me in tears, it’s YA and has Japanese background. I recommend you reading that!❤
I watched the movie Never let me Go over 10 years ago, before I knew it was a book, and it still haunts me. I need to read the book. I'm a bit afraid to start but I know I have to.
I'm so sad to see you cry I hope everything went well with your post concussion syndrome & you're alright now. also thank you for all that you've done to inspire me to become a novelist I am eternally grateful to you
I felt exactly like you did Emma about “Never Let Me Go.” I was surprised because I went into the book with high expectations because the book is so loved. I liked the concept but not the execution. I couldn’t connect to the characters at all either. Sorry Carolyn! Love you both ❤❤❤
Hello lovely ladies. I did an Ishiguro marathon during the pandemic & if u are puzzled by NLMG then u should read his The Unconsoled. It’s so bizarre. My faves of his writings are A Pale View of Hills, TRotD. Least faves would be NLMG and An Artist of the Floating World. Do try The Unconsoled. Do a buddy read and then a review. I would love to see your reactions 😆.

I haven't read Even If This Love Disappears Tonight, but it has been on my TBR for awhile. A light novel that I read and highly recommend is Three Days of Happiness by Sugaru Miaki. This one was AMAZING!
I am one of those people who really loved Never Let Me Go! Like, I get it when Emma says that most of the book is dull - it kind of is at times, but then when you understand what's going on towards the end, you start seeing those dull things in a new light. For ex: once you know the fate of these characters, the scene where the art teacher cries because of her students' drawings becomes so much more emotional! That's just one example, I would have to reread it to give others. That being said, I REALLY DISLIKED Klara and the Sun and I am still so mad at the author for what he did with that story ☠☠ I only like the beginning in the store, but afterwards... ughhhhh
It is so nice seeing you give two perspectives on one book! I am with Emma on this one though! I read Never Let Me Go a few months ago and also gave it 3 stars. It was alright but i didn't get the opportunity to care much about the characters.
I love how Carolyn can sense when you’re crying straight away
"calcifer, what if I forget him someday" really hit me. my baby kitty and friend of 14 years just passed away at the beginning of the month, and everyday I worry I'll forget what his fur felt like, or his purrs sounded like, or his little adorable face looked like. everyday I remind myself that just loving him is enough, even if my brain can't recreate every moment, I am still more whole as a human being for having loved him.

Oh, and I remember just last week a book did that to me, Anne of green gables. I cannot believe i sob to Anne of Green Gables for two straight hours!
Anne of Green Gables and The Notebook have done this to me, too...
As a sympathetic cryer and laugher, this was a wild ride 😂
i was crying my eyes out with Emma😭
Sobbing right now 😭

You two ladies are adorable and badass readers!
whatta wow video again ✨🤌 . Your channel embibes what a peaceful yet so giving video can have the power to impact you in so many wonderful ways 🤍 eagerly waiting for your next ones. Also shoutout to Carolyn Marie Reads ! You were amazing🫶 new videos soon you guys!
This video was so cute , first of all you guys start it off with trying to imitate my accent , which was adorable to say the least 😂😂 I do possess a rather thick Dublin accent and sound a bit like Colin Farrell or Imelda may.
When you said about school feeling like it goes on forever , brought me straight back to how I felt back in my days of school being the “red brick slaughter house”. when it ends though and you blink the years go by so fast that you think to yourself , that was an entirely different lifetime. Its so weird and also I’m 37 and still need to have pimple patches in my life 😂😂😂 ❤ two of you guys have beautiful skin! It’s lovely to see two friends being so comfortable in each others presence and just enjoying time together x
All the best ❤
'have you seen ''your name''' that look, Emma is ready to destroy Carolyn 😂😂
I haven't read Even If This Love Disappears Tonight, but it has been on my TBR for awhile. A light novel that I read and highly recommend is Three Days of Happiness by Sugaru Miaki. This one was AMAZING!
"You're like a typewriter." hahaha
Hi @Emmie, I am here to support you
For a short cry, I suggest "Letter from an unknown woman" by Stefan Zweig. ❤
(Have to admit I was tearing up watching Emma cry.😢)
I am one of those people who really loved Never Let Me Go! Like, I get it when Emma says that most of the book is dull - it kind of is at times, but then when you understand what's going on towards the end, you start seeing those dull things in a new light. It is so nice seeing you give two perspectives on one book! I am with Emma on this one though! I read Never Let Me Go a few months ago and also gave it 3 stars. It was alright but i didn't get the opportunity to care much about the characters.
14:01 oh god Carolyn's face thinking Emma liked it
28:24 well, the revenge
Loveddddd❤
