Man! The crashes are nasty this year.
they just need some wider handle bars right?
Such a dangerous sport, coming from someone who raced motocross.
@Rambleon444 same man, used to race motocross around 2006-2012, and now doing road cycling to keep in shape, motocross is on a way another league for sure but id say at this level of roadcycling it is an extreme sport tbh
NOOOO... "The winner of the Tour de France's opening stage Jasper Philipsen was forced to pull out of the 21-day race on Monday after suffering a broken collarbone in a high-speed fall."
Great highlight clips -- what a bonkers stage.
Blindman Coquard got his unintentional revenge on Swerver Philipsen 😮😮😮
Looks like his watch sparked on the pavement! at 1:37
yeah, might be his whoop band or his watch
@CallumLang128 Yeah pretty sure it is the whoop. Got to be some rough wrist impact
Was in a group where this happened..... can't imagine the pain....
Win by a tire .. World class..
too many crashes. hate to see it. Can anybody believe that Primoz hasn't crashed yet?
C'mon Sam, don't be rude😂❤
Give him time. Hopefully he doesn't and can put on a little show and get back in to thick of things though.
@ẞanderBert no rudeness intended, ha. just being observant.
Making Jasper Fall was intentional
@lydboe4448 that wasn't what I thought at all.
I hate to see this many crashes in the opening stages of the tour. Crashes are inevitable, but its just so sad when they are this early in the tour
The speeds they are achieving are just immense, and the falls are brutal, that's cycling for you,
It’s like I’m watching a cat5 race
Thanks for the highlights…🎉😊
まじかー。日本ではハイライト動画が全然ないから助かります。
Stage 1 to 3 crashes was insane
well that was scary, hope the riders are okay
Ufff….
Last year worked well with some tough stages early, create some gc gaps, soften a few people up and bring down the nervousness. Where the first week is mostly sprint days in northern France it’s just a recipe for crashes. We’ve just got to hope none of the big gc guys end up coming down and having to abandon.
Indeed, I think it was 2023 when the Yates brothers finished 1-2 in the first stage. That really took a lot of the nervousness out.
Was just thinking the same thing, the guys need to settle into the race I know it's only two days in but you can tell already they've went out the gate as pure competitors no a working together peloton like the usually would, to be honest it's savage racing but I hate to see any of them hurt, I know philipsen gets a bad rep from his jasper disaster days but to see the pain in his face was just cruel, at the end of the day there is a part of this they are doing for us and our entertainment we cannot be selfish with that they need to be kept safer and the issue of every race being run at full tilt on these dangerous courses needs looking at in a big way, pick one or the other technical courses or all out power sprints there's no need to run a mountain stage with a 50kmh average it's still entertaining if they bring the speed back, and if they won't do that then set standards and rules about course plans and turn angles, they have them in rally and f1 and most other motor sports, so if a race for small engined cars doing 60kmh needs minimum standards then why don't these races
@someirishfella1704 why would the peloton work together? That eliminates successful breakaways. Breakaway riders are the true heroes
Yep, spot on.
yes exactly what has happened. In the hill stages they all conserve energy until the hills
Omg 😱
What a crazy day I hope all are ok
45😮?!
Thanks bini 🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🇪🇷🙏🇪🇷🙏
faster speeds, harder falls. insane!
Hate to see crashes, been there. A lot of skin was lost that these guys were gonna need later-
Painful to see those crashes. Hope they are fine
Cool!
And Milan it is 😅
1:40 , looks like couqard is being yelled by a grandma😄
Thank goodness helmets are compulsory these days for all stages - unlike early 1980's 😮
Carnage
The irony is if Remco had stayed on the right side, he'd have been funneled to the back where all the GC riders were and he would probably haven't had crashed.
so many crashes, it must be the size of their chainring and tiny handlebars........
Nah, it's gotta be the rim depth....
Don't worry John! You have 11 points and Biniam 9 points, my boy
Why not show the first ten places you only concentrate on the first rider
Yowza, the crashes are such a bummer. I'm palpably pissed off when I see them going down.
roglic pats remco, "I know how it feels...a lot"
Cochard has caused two crashes😮
1:20 his green jersey in tatters? What green jersey? I see fgrey and sponsor logos. Green yellow and mountain jerseys should be plain.
Ham der nr 24
Skubbet til flere undervejs
I wonder if Milan would have won if he stayed in an aero tucked position to the line. Head is bobbling vigorously to the right for the final 50m or so haha
So. Many. Crashes. 😢
Is pogacar still taking part in the tour?
What a chaotic stage. Plenty of crashes. Hope the GC contenders would hang on till the end.
Too many riders, too many teams.
The peloton....too close...can't wait for the mountain stages. Also prettier scenery
did cocquard deviate or what exactly?
How on Earth did the Cofidis rider keep upright at 0:37
It will be great if red triangles are printed on the jersey instead of polka dots.
the amount of crashes is clearly UCI's fault
cat 5 racers
I will keep.saying this. When its a sprinters stage, make it that the teams and riders that have no intention to sprint can stop riding from 5 kms out.
Sprinters need their team tho,
I agree but I think they did change it to 5k.
Increasing handlebar width will surely avoid these crashes 🙄 - UCI, probably
Increased width would probably help with handling which it seems like most of the pros seem to lack.😊
Agreed.
@oneninetyseven pros lack handling ? okay bob
Add some spikes too to fall softer. On other riders.
@zorannayagam7602just watch how they ride. They are riding too aggressive for their ability or don't know how to properly slow down or are just bad at basic handling. Im not the first person to notice this
I can't say I didn't wish for it... But ouchhhh....
Is this cycling or just a massacre?
Is it just me or it seems that the racing is way more agressive nowadays, ive been watching the tdf for many many years and it seems way more agressive, more crashes more punctures dramas all round 😢
It's all these gauche Americans.
wow, what a mess... that's one of the crashiest stages in a while.
Where did Podgacar & Vinnegard finish? (Sorry for the spelling)
I am not sure that french rider's ball is intact, looks like hard knock on the top tube too
horrible finish crash! I hope that all bikers are fine for the next stages! Too many crashes in just 3 stages!
Near a flag. Poor Philipsen
It is crazy with so many crashes, there is no protection, just flesh and concrete!! Organiser just greedy for their own pockets, how many more broken bones??
Green jersey guy must have a broken collarbone or separated shoulder from the way he landed.
I was brooding on that one also. I know what the former feels like and what it takes to heal, without doctoring too.
@derekjolly3680 If it ever does heal. Mine hasn’t.
@jonathanparks207 - What do you mean a broken collarbone does not heal??
@jonathanparks207 Mine healed OK, it just looks non-symmetrical now. I really noticed the difference when I dropped the weight down. If I'd been at 150 or 147 pounds when that happened, it probably wouldn't have been as bad as it was.
@derekjolly3680Yours healed but mine didn’t. The scar tissue never became bone. Now I am faced with the choice of surgery or just live with it.
The organizer is the cause for all the crashes the roads are too narrow in most places and too much turns
Philipsen come back strong next 🙏
Looked like an easy stage, but still lots of crashes.
Uci regulations don't work.
So sad for Jasper I hope a speedy recovery and his surgery goes well 😢😢😢
If the UCI wants to make racing safer, maybe they should ban crashing? 🤓
sad Philipsen is out 😢 it shoul be his stage
Sprints breed crashes again and again. Riders like Van Aert have been complaining about relatively trivial cycling speed-related safety issues, but why should we still allow sprinting when so many disastrous high-speed crashes happen in them?? Make a simple rule that riders must stay in the saddle over the last few hundred meters, and no more intermediate sprints for points...install pressure sensors in the saddles if necessary to confirm?
Sry Philip sry
Philipsen shot down - another fall caused by another French baguette ...
The crashes make it just so stupid to watch
Exactly!
Pure carnage.. Daytona-esque!
glad big baby milan lost it on the line lol
አየ ፍላፕስየን ሕማቅ ተረኪቡ
Of course, it's not usually fair to blame any rider for causing accidents, but there should be penalties for reckless and careless riding, as well as those who cause certain types of crashes. It can be better controlled with better rules and safety regulations, imo.
after a stage like this, winning alone is crazy for me. Tim 💪
Where the flat turned treacherous and the wind blew as if still taking orders from Churchill
Valenciennes, once known as the “Athens of the North,” saw the peloton off with its baroque and working-class heritage. Among lace, ramparts, and the Escaut canal, the stage seemed destined for yawns. But northern France -the land that birthed cobblestones and bred resistance- is never truly flat.
With 60 km to go, the intermediate sprint at Isbergues turned into an ambush. Coquard, colliding with Rex, brought down Jasper Philipsen. The green jersey wearer fell like a fallen warrior: broken collarbone, fractured ribs, Tour over. The silence after his exit spoke louder than any podium.
The wind, faceless and firm, took control. Only Tim Wellens found fleeting glory atop Mont Cassel -a hill both historic and symbolic- earning the polka-dot jersey.
In Dunkirk, a city defined by the 1940 evacuation, the sprint was a duel of nerves. Tim Merlier, cold-blooded and precise, edged Milan by half a wheel on a final stretch heavy with brine and fate.
It wasn’t coquard fault, racing incident 100%. I feel for jasper but it’s not Bryan’s fault.
Nasty, nasty fall. It wasn't his fault,
So many crashes in one stage. Makes me wonder if the riders are too inexperienced or something.
I’m not sad about this disaster. I know it wasn’t his fault.
poor JAsper!
Is he out of the tour now?
@sircavin yes. Speed recovery to him
The Tour has become ridiculous! Too many teams. They are just piling up on top of each other. People are getting hurt but that's alright. Euros.
Tour de Crash?
modern cycling is terribly rude, it wasn't like this in the past, total disregard for the health of other cyclists in the name of what?
Do we need to see all these crashes? I am more interested in the race
Nothing important happened but the crashes and the sprint finish
Tour de france = crashes all day everyday
Jasper disaster as usual
Maybe…One Cycling project is right… The Tour, the Giro and the Vuelta could be in just two weeks, avoiding the first week, and these stupid stages that are only dangerous. To many crashes, cycling needs to change
The course layout is poor.
Whoever set the course should be fired.
I didn't know this sh_t still goes on I wonder who's the leading cheat this yr ah mean cyclist sorry bout that or not!
Vitória SENSACIONAL 🚴🏻💪🏼💨💨, colocou milan no bolso🤣😂😂😂
Too many crashes due to "forced drafting". The average speed (le moyenne) has become unsustainable for the single rider himself. Consequently, you gotta travel in "the pack", otherwise, u get dropped instantly.
Cycling has improved dramatically thanks to applied physics, game theory and nutrition. I reckon it has reached humans limits in term of pure peloton' speed and therefore, it needs to be strictly regulated from now on.
PS: staying focused for more than 4 hours and riding deep in the peloton (@50km/HR average😮) means several crashes are like to happen.🎉
Keep grinding ❤
Been saying it for years now that one way to stop this madness, is that pure GC riders and teams that have no intention to sprint DO NOT NEED TO BE IN THE BUNCH!! All they need to do is literally make it so that those guys dont need to ride even from 10 km out just get the same time that way we can enjoy a much safer end with just the sprinters and sprint teams
Cofidis are full of idiots this year?
Coquard needs to learn how to ride a bike! Total squid…
Tour, poorly handle by officials.. The finish, how can you, have two bends, and a curved final 150m in the final sprint . Very poor.
Are you saying you want dead straight to the finish? No, no, no. The more turns the better.
Milan needs ro improve his sprinting technique because seeing him lose with so much power is a shame
Coquard doesn't ride safe at all, he already done it in stage 1 and Jasper needed to literally shove him after just veering mindlessly to the right.
tbh honest jasper always tries to shove anyone that gets close to him
Tour de France marred by falls, not worth seeing anymore ...
