- Today we go to the restaurant that has just won "Best Korean BBQ" 1st place for the second year running, to taste the best of the best of Korean Hanwoo BBQ.
Hanwoo has been called "the forbidden beef", because it is impossible to get anywhere outside of Korea. Arguably the highest quality Beef in the world, we flew our friend Mr Z, an Italian Chef, all the way to Korea to try it.
This is the first episode of a 6 past series - searching out the very best food Korea has to offer.

Same here. Josh chose a great chef and restaurant to represent Korea I feel like. The chef was incredibly respectful and was even a fan of the channel. Love to see Mr Z admire a peer
Josh's reaction to eating this was the same as gas station food in Texas. As an American, I can now equate this to Buckey's.
Man was obsessed with food, remember that he spent almost everything to eat out every day for a whole year. Excessive, but he really wanted to try everything the region has to offer.
He's not some nobody off of the street, but he does act like he's a fanboy (compliment) and appreciate a good dish.
The fact that Mr. Z learnt Korean phrases to compliment the chef is really admirable. And also from the way he pronounced those Korean phrases, it feels like he has been practicing them because they sound surprisingly fluent. Loving this series already!

Romance languages have more sounds than English.
So pronouncing and even learning new languages is easier.
Ask an English speaker to do a nasal sound and he'll struggle a lot.
As italian and a Korean learner, I think that for us is easy to learn Korean pronunciation cuz basically we have similar sounds expacially for the vowels. Vowels sound are the same.
The fact this channel can teach new things to a world-famous Italian chef, still at the TOP OF HIS GAME, mind you, is nothing short of spectacular.
And yet, Chef Z is the most able to understand how magnificent it is. And I mean UNDERSTAND, not only appreciate.
Well...good food is good food, everyone can appreciate that. It's not that difficult 😂

Mr. Z’s Korean really shocked me the pronunciation was really good and I love the amount of happiness you just see as he tries new dishes. I also like the fact that he’s intrigued by the culture and flavors of Korean delicacies like someone might be like ew that’s gross but Mr. Z has such a respect for food that even if it might not be to his palette he can respect and be intrigued by it

Yes! And from the 250 pound sandwich covered in gold leaf video I thought he'd be a pretentious snob (OK maybe he's a little pretentious lol), but he's genuinely a great, funny guy who is just really passionate about food. I was honestly amazed by how above and beyond he went to give them his "crescendo" tour of Emilia-Romagna, about time Josh and Ollie returned the favour!
Can we appreciate how much the chef integrated Korean history in with his dishes? I love the little stories he told about each dish and how they were created.

It's amazing how the head chef came for this and prepared a special dish for the famous Italian chef guest, and yet, the one he was most excited to serve was Josh since he's a fan. That was an insane start. I need to go there...
Right!? I love how honored he truly was to have the chance to feed them. Going to far as to make a special dish just for Mr. Z!!! It was so touching.

A thing, among many, that I really like watching this, is how Mr. Z is analyzing the food.
Because he is a world class chef himself, he wants to understand "how is this so good". When he tastes something new, he's analyzing the taste, aromatics, aftertaste and flavour-combinations.
It's amazing to watch. This series is going to be an amazing crescendo :)
And not just he understands the food, but he' understands the Chef and his passion to create amazing dishes. In a way, its a mutual understanding between 2 great artists

Dude. At this point in time, I don't think I have the capability to taste all of the food they're tasting (and I don't mean that bitterly, I just mean that realistically). But their reactions, their appreciation makes me soo happy, as if I'm tasting the food myself. Incredible people working in front of and behind the camera. An amazing team! I went into sensory overload just watching the dishes come through. This is art. This is history. That is a chef who has creativity and such excellent pairing for condiments. Wow. My mind is kinda blown by today's episode. Today's episode is not just introducing Korean food to people around the world, it's a real cultural lesson. Wow.

I love this episode! I love how Mr. Z is just giving us additional explanations into what's in the food, what ingredients add to the taste profile, how genuinely open and curious and honest his reactions were, and of course, amazed at how quickly he picks up the Korean phrases!!! I can't wait for the rest of the series!

what a refreshing take! usually Josh is the one explaining all the techniques and cuts of meat. But this time, all Josh needs to do is translate and Mr. Z just takes over the explaining! So excited for this series!
What I love about this channel is how Josh’s love and enthusiasm for Korean food and culture has not diminished over these many years. Most people start to see all the bad after the honeymoon period is over, but Josh knows that sharing your great experiences with others is what keeps that first impression and that first love going strong. This channel is crescendo. ❤
Josh became a guest in his own show. Mr. Z is really taking over this trip and I am all for it.
I love having a series with such a talented chef involved too. It's like elevating everything this channel is about. Not only do we learn about Korean foods and culture from Josh, but Mr Z is able to give us some background and science behind the food and what he's looking for in it.
I really loved Mr. Z. He's so generous and always want to share the great experience he having. It make him happy to share.
Yep! First time I saw him on the other channel I thought he was a bit arrogant, but this video confirmed that he's just a typical Italian who's very defensive about his own culture. Everything else he's super polite and an absolute joy to watch.

Loved everything about this. Especially how Mr. Z was so attentive to how everything was being prepared. He has such an understanding of food; he knows how each pairing is meant to add, enhance, or balance the taste of something, and it's so insightful. I really enjoyed watching him enjoy this experience. I'm already wondering what he's going to get up to in the kitchen after this trip, trying to incorporate all these flavors and combinations he's experiencing in Korea. :')
I thought the same about Mr Z's kitchen after this trip. His clientele is in for a treat !

I love this because we're actually hearing it from a professional and only they can describe fully why/how those flavors come together into spectacular awesomeness in your mouth.
This feels like some kind of food movie or anime. With Mr. Z despite being world class chef himself but still having kind of childish passion for exploring new flavors, these series will be some of the greatest food trips ever recorded.
My favourite Gordon Ramsay videos are the ones where it is just him going into different countries and hitting very off the beaten path places and trying their stuff. This scratches the same itch except on the high dining end lol. But that said, I would love to see Josh and Ollie do a G.R. off the beaten path in Korea series, I would watch the hell out of that lol

The fact the first thing he does is sharing the beef with the crew shows how much value Mister Z puts in sharing the food and the experience.

It's kind of amazing to me that the head chef, who won the national award two years in row, is a big fan of KoreanEnglishman. Just a huge group of people who admire each other's work.
Love when Mr.Z is around. He is a renowned chef and he just respects the food in a whole different way and it is just lovely to see.
This tasting menu is a real showcase and I wonder how much it might cost to enjoy such a meal. Great guest to have for this though, he had the palate and vocabulary to describe it for us who can only dream of experiencing it ourselves!

I have NEVER been more excited to see 2 people eat food. It's nice that it's with a chef to another chef that can truly appreciate the technical side as well as the flavor pairings involved in creating such a magnificent meal. Guess Mr. Z is just going to have to put Korea on his travel list more often just to "drop by" for the best beef in the world.
I can tell this series is going to be incredible. Watching someone whose entire life revolves around food getting to learn and try new things is just amazing. Mr. Z has wonderful energy and is just a joy to watch :)

I love hearing someone actually articulate what they love about the food and to describe it. Watching someone that truly knows and loves food enjoy something and share with us why is so refreshing and even though I don't eat meat, watching Mr. Z was a joy.
I love Mr.Z. Usually the downside of mukbang/food themed videos is you simply can't smell or taste the food. But the way this man describes the food in so much details seems to transcend this barrier.

ive ben watching you guys for years and got to say this series with MrZ is probably my favourite. its just so cool to see someone that's passionate about food try new things and loving them. really cool
Watching Mr Z act and feel as excited as a school kid on his first vacation away from home is so heartwarming he explains the courses so well its clear to see how much skill and craft he has and can really appreciate the chef's work there. Brilliant to see.
Loved seeing Mr. Z seeing the ice cooking technique for the first time, an incredible educational moment of the value of experiencing other cultures because this is a man who has dedicated his life to the art of cooking and he never heard of this extremely effective method until he came to another country. Truly an amazing thing to see
I loved this. Mr. Z is one of my favourites on this channel. He is simultaneously the most authentic yet most performative people you have had on the show (I mean that in a good way!). I love his personality and his genuine love for good food. This series is going to be awesome.

I wish I ate this when I was in Korea. Then I remembered the budget for this kinda 20 course meal meat... But thank you Josh and Ollie for introducing so much food to us internationals! I always love it, watching chefs still experience something new. They always have this child like quality to their demeanor while still being professional. Which means they truly love what they do.
Mr. Z's description of all the things he ate is such a different level of appreciation for the food!

I think that's what is gonna make this series more entertaining. Josh introducing and teaching Mr Z about Korea and it's food culture, and in return Mr Z is teaching him and us as the viewers cooking methods, what complements food, his own experiences and knowledge as a chef

After this series I would love to see a video on what and how Mr. Z incorporated his experiences in Korea into his own work. He obviously understands and analyses the tastes he is experiencing, so there has to be an awsome result at the end.
I'm so happy we get to have so many different types of people on this channel experiencing the same food; yet every trip and every meal although similar are very different because of the people. We've seen Josh eat a lot across both KE & Jolly but this is the most we've seen him gobsmacked. And Mr Z is top tier across the board, he has a wonderful smile, an infectious laugh, knowledge & swag just drips off him 😂 he's just so cool. Props to the head chef, a true artist.

This is soo great, M. Z is a World Wonder, a living human treasure we need to protect at all cost. The guy has never been to Korea but learned Korean for his first trip. His entire body is screaming LOVE for all the meals he had.

I just came from a food trip in another city and am so happy to watch this. Actually the trip was supposed to be focused on Japanese food. But after realizing how many Korean eateries have opened there and were run by actual Koreans, it was the only food I was interested in. This channel opened a whole new world to me. And to see Mr Z being as happy as I am, makes the joy last longer.

Some of the most meaningful episode ever! It's must be a challenge for Josh and the whole team because this is Top-tier Italian Chef who had served thousands of celebraties. But whole awesome background of Mr.Z just makes all of his applauses today become special more than any guess has ever made. His recognition for Korean food really hits me hard today.
